It must be fate, I have just pulled my motor apart to rebuild it and I had that washer sitting there not knowing where it come from and your video just popped up randomly . Thank you.
No, the pawl goes on the same way no matter what gear you're in. It's a bit fiddly when you do it for the first time with the springs and the metal pieces, but you'll get it pretty fast after you start putting it together and testing it. Just make sure not to forget to put the circlip back on the shifter side of the shift shaft
Oh my fucking god thank u so much bro I finally figured out the goddamn problem of my stupid mf four wheeler I didn’t know there was supposed to be a washer right there goddamnit
Also brother I got that part ordered thanks a lot also do u know if the shift rod is supposed to have any play in it cause me riding u know I have kfx400 not ltz400 but same thing anyway, one day I’m riding an I get stuck in second gear I can ride stop turn off start back up an take off again just can’t shift down or up come to fine out that plate on the shift rod kept falling off an I do some digging find ur video an see im missing a washer an since I already got my engine took apart what else is needed washer wise an or snap rings anything else? Cause I looked I have all my washers etc just don’t know why it just happened to fall off now since iv already been riding it without the pawl washer
If the shift shaft can slide in and out, you're missing the circlip that goes on the shifter side of the shift shaft. Also, there is supposed to be a plastic Spacer in between the case and the shifter itself. If you did lose that part you ordered, then that could have caused it to not shift because the spacing is off, but more than likely the circlip is missing on the shifter side
An could u also tell me how u prevent from losing it like what do I need inside to keep that from falling out cause I think it’s still inside my engine unless it’s not anymore some how

Thanks for the heads up
Nice video
Putting the bottom end of my drz400 back together right now, does my transmission need to be in neutral when reinstalling the shift pawl?

They are a bit fiddly. Getting those springs and nubs inside that shift drum wheel are tough sometimes.
Could u please tell me what that washer is called
At rockymountainatv the part number is 09180-07014
They call it Spacer(L:5)
