      @@quillmaurer6563 Well, there are 3 main parts to playing golf. One, taking a wide stance, grabbing a club with both hands and swinging it, two, walking long distances over uneven and soft terrain, and three, networking with other well to do professionals.
      The first becomes very difficult when one of your legs won't support your weight, the second becomes pretty difficult when you walk with the assistance of a cane, and the third kind of becomes pointless when your constant pain turns you into such a sharp tongued and bitter cynic that professional advancement is impossible. House probably used to play golf before his leg was cut up.

    I like how House is actually giving a very good lesson even without his personal attachment to it. Leg pain is very common and can range from a sore muscle from excessive exercise to flesh eating bacteria that will kill the patient within a week, and everything between. With the main issue being that the initial symptom is pretty much always the same regardless of what it actually is “my leg hurts”.

      There's a bunch of really good little lessons within his lecture. He makes the point that "most common" has nothing to with a specific patient, that a patient can't always be taken at their word, that in medicine right and wrong are very real and have consequences. It's such a good episode and I really wish more of this type of episode was done

      I gave you a thumbs up thinking I had missed that tidbit (which would have been a good one) only to rewatch it and find out the number of people stayed constant. Boo, sir. I feel like I was Rick-Rolled into rewatching an episode that I really didn't mind rewatching.

      @@Domasiukas probably tried her hand out at acting. If you have a good agent they will get you a good small role like this one to test the waters. And this was back when Carmen was at the top so she would of had pull as well. That's my guess

    I’m a tad confused about how a dog bite was confused with a snake bite but.... ok. 🤷‍♀️ I loved how the young actors couldn’t help laughing at Hugh Laurie’s sarcastic lines. 😂

    • @michaelwilson3077

      At that point they assumed the patient was being truthful. It is difficult to not notice a large dog biting you. They assumed the snake because the farmer lied and said he felt the pain but did not see any thing.

    I live in the prairies and watching this episode, I thought about the farmer case. Worst case scenario it’s a rattlesnake or a moccasin. Best case scenario it’s a garter.
    But please don’t pick up any random snake. They can and will bite you.

    • @itsonlyafleshwound9024
      @itsonlyafleshwound9024 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Spoiler: In the episode it later turns out that the farmer lied about the snake bite because he actually knew what had bitten him; his dog. The bite transferred flesh eating bacteria (iirc) and they ended up amputating the leg.

    • @Shastaphirre
      @Shastaphirre 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Working to ID the snake is a bit silly though. The same antivenin works on cottonmouths, rattlesnakes, and copperheads, so a strict ID can be helpful but isn’t super necessary in most of the US.

      They should have had one show where it definitely was lupus. The problem is that most doctors don’t know as much about lupus as the patients do because it has so many variables and only experiencing it and studying each of its presentations and conferring with other people who have it will teach you anything about lupus.

    For anybody interested in what happened to House...
    House had a leg aneurysm in his thigh that clotted and blocked off blood flow causing the tissue in his quadricep muscles to begin to die which is what caused the pain he felt the first time. The doctors didn't diagnosis it in time but he did but by that time it was too late and most of the tissue in his leg was dead and at risk of causing him sepsis. He didn't want his leg amputated because in his words "I like my leg" and instead had them bypass all of the dead tissue to restore blood flow so he could keep his leg after everything that had happened. The issues this caused after surgery were a risk of organ failure and cardiac arrest but he chose to take that risk. After the surgery though, he had to deal with EXCRUCIATING pain that nearly killed him. He authorized being put into a medically-induced coma to sleep the pain away. Stacy was his medical proxy and Cuddy who was his doctor at that point, chose to remove just the dead tissue in his leg while he was in a coma. This resulted in part of his leg not working and House's chronic pain. Stacy going behind House's back is what broke them up (they were never married). One can also argue that the guilt of being the one to convince Stacy to go for the surgery and seeing what it caused House to have to deal with is the reason why Cuddy gave House so much leeway than anybody else would.
