Love how house walked in, clearly saw that this was likely an epidemic.. hesitated. walked in.... only turned around the moment he saw Cuddy. He was never planning on leaving people without help, he just wanted to bother Cuddy.

They just hated his guts and kept him on until they felt the potential for lawsuit was gone. Shows you the real morals going on there.
Why lawsuit? Because Cutty preformed an opposing operation on him, against his wishes (he wanted the riskier but better gain operation, where he’d have no pain, compared to the ‘safer’ operation where he’d be crippled and feel pain for life.) based on her feelings and the feelings of someone who did not have right of attorney over him (I think I have that spelt wrong.) (his girlfriend, but since they weren’t married, she has no power to override his wishes)
House had the potential to bankrupt the hospital after what she did (apparently they barely made anything according to this episode lol) so Cutty gave him a variety of special privileges, in efforts to hold him off until the risks of a lawsuit were far past.

While appeal to authority is very convincing, it isn't logical. House provided very weak foundations for suggesting it is not meningitis. We know he's not wrong as a viewer, but as the hospital, he need to provide more definitive evidence than just that bit of neck pain which can be explained by multitude of reasons.

The actress never speaks and her hair was Auburn not blond. House assumes she is crazy because her hair does not smell like chlorine and the group of people at the Hospital were there from a swim meet. I would say this is more of an insult rather than a diagnosis. She could have been a friend or family member of someone on the swim team, or a member of the team itself that had just not gotten in the water. You can see the entire scene in Season 1 Episode 19 "Kids" of House starting at around 17:45, not Season 1 Episode 8 as it says in the description above. The House M.D. channel labeled this one wrong.
I looked but could not find the name of the actress that played the role. She did not appear in the credits for the episode, I assume because it was not a speaking role.
I did find this interesting fact about the episode on the wikipedia page, "The diver’s father is played by Dylan Kussman who appeared with Robert Sean Leonard(Wilson) in “Dead Poets Society” playing the role of Richard Cameron." His character was the redhead with flat top haircut that turned in Mr. Keating(Robin Williams) for what happened to Neil.

As a practicing attorney, I have absolutely no idea why Foreman, as resourceful as he is, didn't go to legal and say, "Cuddy is my supervisor and has given our team one hour to diagnose a patient we believe may have a fatal illness if untreated. It is critical that we perform a lumbar puncture in order to properly diagnose her. Due to current circumstances, we are being refused a room to perform the procedure and will have to do it in the hallway, which is inherently dangerous since we're puncturing the spinal column with a very large needle to get spinal fluid." In no time, those lawyers on staff would have thrown patients out of rooms or extended the 1 hour diagnosis period (which seems inherently problematic from a liability viewpoint anyway). But, yeah, t.v. medicine/drama ruled the day on this one.

@@cszero2109 I worded that quickly. More than
"throwing patients out of rooms" (though I am sure they could discharge patients without incident), my point was that the lawyers could make a room available within an hour due to a lumbar puncture- they absolutely could have had Foreman's patient "cut in line" with limited resources rather than perform a needlessly risky procedure by doing it in a hallway instead of an actual room. Lol, you haven't got a clue pal.
