      @@MrRyushinn Yup lol. That's everything I was issued and carried in 2007. We were still using FAL manual actions in basic then, in the C7 lol.
      Then the main thing was to rack the charging handle with right hand, then slap the bolt catch with the left hand, then pump the forward assist with the palm or thumb of the right hand.
      All of these actions are kinda redundant if you're just reloading. But effective if you're clearing a malfunction.
      Now in modern war schools, everything's been streamlined to just TRB. Tap Rack Bang lol.

    This is a good video. Being someone that has fired the civilian AR15 i see many things that take time off when time counts in combat.
    I never liked the forward assist! The idea of raming a round into the chamber. Makes me think as a kid square peg round hole!
    What ifs yes are just that but makes you think.
    The next to use the charging handle to release the bolt when your hand is already by the bolt release 10ths of a second in combat could be the difference between life and death.
    This is a good instructional tool to build muscle memory this is why we run drills

    • @burnyburnoutze2nd
      @burnyburnoutze2nd 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The reason we stopped using the bolt catch was because too many dumb recruits kept missing the bolt catch and you're less likely to miss the cocking handle than the bolt catch.
      Or so we were told.
      I agree, the bolt catch should be used over the cocking handle whenever the bolt is locked to the rear, as it's literally designed to chamber a round once a loaded magazine is inserted.

    • @alexyoung4689

      Grabing the cocking handle and pulling it to the rear is considered a gross motor skill, trying to release the bolt catch with its small button is a fine motorskill. In stressful situations like a fire fight, fine motor skills tend to deteriorate.

      @burnyburnoutze2nd 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@alexyoung4689 under that logic, getting your magazine out is also a fine motor skill.

    • @gdlmao
      @gdlmao 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      It's a solution looking for a problem. The bolt release is there for a reason, giving it a slap with an open palm takes a fraction of a second and anyone can practice it to the point of it being second nature, even in a firefight. You always fall back to your strongest level of training when under stress. The new changes make me thing we're just unlearning years of PWT so someone at NDHQ can get a Driving Change tick in the box on their PER.

      from my understanding, its far more reliable to cock it yourself. C7/C8's (and C9's for that matter), get really gunked up after a few rounds, and Ive had my bolt fail to go foward while hitting the bolt release. But its always seated when I rack the gat myself.

    • @burnyburnoutze2nd
      @burnyburnoutze2nd 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MrSimon117 If the rifle fails to chamber a round from pressing the bolt catch, there's a problem with the rifle or the magazine. To get a properly functioning C7/C8 to be so filthy that chambering from the bolt catch no longer works, you'd have to not clean or lubricate the rifle at all for literally thousands of live rounds (or hundreds of blanks).

    • @cs-rj8ru
      @cs-rj8ru 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Guy, I don't think you've actually fired either of those weapons? The forward assist is a GREAT addition to any M16 rifle. And yes, they have a purpose. It is possible to get "stuck" on a damaged or out of spec cartridge. When that happens you're wedged too tightly to use the charging handle to open the bolt, and forced to pound the bolt closed (to fire) as the only recourse. The Garand, M14, C1/FAL AK etc are all vulneralble to this possibility. At least on the M14 and Garand, AK etc You can pound, or even stomp the charging handle in or out of battery. The FAL/C1 has no forward assist...I love the FAL/C1 type rifles, but to be blunt the lack of a good solid charging handle or Forward assist is a bit of a deficit. With a C1/FAL your only solution to a stuck round is to try to hold the charging handle and beat the rifle by the but on the ground to try to extract. Sometimes this doesn't work out as planned.......

    So much fail in this doctrine, but an improvement over the older garbage.
    Press checks are dumb, and are only viable with ample light. Teaching a non tactile method is pointless. Fucking with the bolt is a recipe for disaster. Physically feel for the top round in the magazine and which side it is on before loading. After inserting the magazine and chambering a round, remove the magazine and feel the top round again. If the top round has switched sides, you have loaded the rifle, reinsert the rifle with a TAP TUG. Works 24 hours a day, with all rifles, and you never fuck with the bolt.
    Dry firing the rifle after unloading is absolutely retarded. Pulling the trigger is NOT PART OF UNLOADING.
    When loading or executing an immediate action drill it is advisable to both TAP and TUG the magazine, ensuring it is seated prior to working the charge handle. Mixing up the steps renders the operation useless.
    A bolt check is dumb and only works under ample lighting conditions. TAP TUG RACK solves most issues and should be done without additional data. That is, don't think or look at the rifle. If it didn't fire when the trigger was depressed execute a TAP TUG RACK and try again. Should that fail, reload the rifle.
    Again, looking at the chamber during a double feed is pointless as it only works with ample light. Fingering the mag well and/or ejection port greatly aids in ensuring the stoppage is clear. If you cycle the bolt and listen(and feel) you can hear(and feel) steel on steel, which tells you the action is clear. Reload and continue on.
    Stop using the forward assist. Another product of institutional imbreeding that was not part of the original design and is completely useless. Forcing a round into the chamber is a very dumb idea.
