Matt, you need to take that phone away from Kristen!! I see you working like a mad dog and in the background, there's Kristen just texting away! These projects would go twice as fast if your helper stayed engaged. LOL! It's really looking good. I had my doubts but you are starting to pull it off and thanks for not cutting out the mistakes. I think we all like to know what not to do and it keeps you site real. Keep up the good work.

It's starting to come together and looking very, very good. Y'all are knocking it out of the park and definitely improving your skills as well as your home on the water. I don't understand how someone can talk bad about anything you're doing when all they're doing is watching someone else get it done and living the dream. Y'all got this as you show with every video and the haters can go jump in a lake because it sure won't be the ocean with their attitudes.
Fair winds, following seas, safe travels and God Bless...

This right here is my Sailing GBU!!!!!! This is what brought me here. Im so glad for the two of you to see you back swimming, grilling and hopefully soon to be sailing. Matt thanks for that “ no engine” explanation. Matt you have a great memory taking that stuff out and always able to put it back where it belongs! I have a memory like a steel trap! Rusty and illegal in 42 states!!! Hahaha Stay the course my friends!!

Place your emergency knife on the inside of your leg as they are very prone to catching on fishing line! I am a Master diver - when diving popular areas I dive with three emergency knifes... Yes - I have been tangled in fishing line. One 8" inside calf, one 6" upper right, one 4" lower left arm.

Skisafe insurance insured my 1974 37ft Ranger with no hassle about 4 or 5 months ago, when others wouldn't touch it. 300k liability for a year at about 500 per year.

Wildlings Sailing (older catamaran) removed and reinstalled their engine from dockside with no crane but they had one extra guy (father) to help. It is possible but not easy. (Episodes 175 and 185) First start looking for a strong friend who knows something about engines! Keep the faith guys! Good luck.

Two by fours , 4 pieces of 6 foot ,2 pieces of 3 foot and 2 pieces of 3 foot then make like letter A two suports and a bridge , so you can hang the engine with a chain and slowly let it down to the engine bay ! A---A

Matt you could DIY float the stern high enough for the propeller and shaft to come out higher then the water line like one of those in the water inflatable dry docks. 👈😍👍 We've used 50 gal drums held in a cradle with padding ratchet strapped forward to the boat again with air bags and even used 2 blow up plat forms.

Matt, if you can get the engine onto the dock , you can use your Main halyard to lift it onto the boat. Also I've seen folks put their engine on a platform with wheels under it and roll it across a gangplank from the dock to the boat. You can install the engine with the boat in the water. Just have to get creative. You are the master of creative. Cheers! ♡ Love you guys.

I absolutely love Kristens enthusiasm and Matts bad jokes, whenever I am feeling down all I need is to watch any of your videos but always the latest ones so keep up the great work and keep enjoying some down time like the beach barbecue and snorkel. Can't wait to see you sailing again as well.

Lifted engines out and in while afloat, the biggest was the Yanmar 3 cylinder with gearbox into a 30ft yacht, using the boom to the cockpit and scaffold tube on 4 x 2 wood rails and a chain block from cockpit to engine mounts. As others have said getting the stern of an engineless boat clear of the water is not difficult.
Load of weight on the foredeck , a couple of barrels underneath too, if necessary.
Cleared a prop once with the people from the marina club on the foredeck, and the engine was insitu. The prop came well clear of the water.
You've really got the hang of the laminate now fantastic

Did you know that there is a Laminate Roller that you should really use when you are doing the adhesion step. It will make sure that your seams even out and that all areas of the laminate make positive contact with the area (wall) you are applying the laminate to. Hoping that it doesn't bubble or fast flex and crack when you start sailing. Good Luck.

Those router bits are a great add. Find you a good Cutler in your area. The bits will get dull, and you really need to keep them sharp. Trust me, it makes a big difference.
    Keep up you great job.

Hi there, I have spent some time working with boats, rv’s, housing, and the trim in our rv and some furniture I have seen is a “T” shaped piece of rubber/plastic that comes in rolls in different widths and Color’s and the foot of the T is barbed to fit into a slot in the top of a table edge, wall edge, counter top edge. Slot is routered into the centre of the edge along the length and the edging is tapped in with a rubber mallet. I have a bunch of old banquet table tops that have exactly what you are looking for on them. You guys are fun, witty and hard working. Don’t let anyone ever rain on your parade. Best wishes, Nick and Kathi from Canada

On your boom mark a spot on the boom above your engine. Now get the new engine on your dock next to the boat, swing your boom out over the engine, position the engine below the mark you made on the boom. Take your topping lift down to the boom right above the engine and wrap it around the boom 2-3 times and secure it. Attach a chain hoist to these wraps at this point and you are set to install or remove the your engine. By using your topping lift in this manner what you have done is made a jib crane, the load will be placed on the topping lift and not your boom. Take your topping lift to one of your winches and hoist the engine and boom up over your companion way and use the chain hoist to lower it.

From Australia. It's Friday here and I don't usually get you until Monday Morning or Afternoon, so I'm one happy little vegemite. Great to see both you and Kirsten having some time together doing fun stuff 👍. Boat Insurance here in Aus is ridiculously hard to get first up and expensive as hell. Take care, enjoy life and just keep plugging along, it will all work out for the best. LMAO Hyped or just drunk on the Glue Fumes. There is a rubber moulding/extrusion company close to me that does rubber edging up to 30 metre lengths so shouldn't be hard to find someone near you or on Amazon or the States.

If you don’t find a roll of what you found the 4ft sections of, you can always use “hose” and just make a cut lengthwise. Depending on where you are and what you have access to, they make it in different colors and different materials from rubber to plastic. Even neoprene but it’s probably only in black. Check out the hardware stores, they’re cheaper than the Marine stores and have more options for things like this and sometimes even rope.... Good Luck! The bathroom looks like a new boat! Really!

Good morning Skippers happy to see you posted early this week my personal opinion/experience is put the motor in at the wall/doc better than hauling the boat out and lifting the motor up to the boat then down into the engine compartment I'm just saying installed over six Motors four of them at the Boston Fish Pier the trick is a cherry picker is the key makes things much much easier but a forklift with a chain fall is almost as simple God bless Fairwinds following Seas the boats looking great good job a lot of work most people just talk about it and make it sound easy 2/3 of the boat is out of the water and that's the hard part!⚓💪🙏💙🐟💯

    • @sharpefisherman
      @sharpefisherman 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

What would make that really easy with a forklift is Fork extenders then you could pretty much put the motor right over the Box straight down into the hole! That would be my main concern is getting your vessel powered up the shaft tube you can do in a hall out from the stern bearing! I saw in one of your videos that your stuffing box was off I believe when they assemble that boat they went from the motor to the coupler then the stuffing box and that's just the way she laid meaning shaft tube tube! My last boat was a 43 with in 18.6 length shaft! So proper procedure you cut your hole in your shaft log install your Stern bearing / Cutlass bring your shaft all the way forward and then install your motor to the square shaft just saying maybe some of these things can save you a couple of moves that you will figure I'm not needed the beautiful thing is you have a little tiny shaft and Tiny Chef too so you don't have to deal with multiple feet it's a short run God bless great job I love it! Now back down the engine room installing new lift pump on my Ford Lehman in Biscayne Bay just another beautiful day🙏💯⚓

The boat looks fantastic. Two real people learn as they go and doing a fantastic job and you take care of each other and that is obvious and that is absolutely wonderful keep it going. I am building my man cave and copperopolis California I have never built a house in my life but I have always dreamed about building a house. My family thinks I'm crazy and is constantly trying to take control of my build. It's the worst time to try to do it because of covid and the price of lumber but I will get it done in spite of all the naysayers I know how you feel when people say you can't do something but they're all crazy if you look long enough and you chip things out long enough and you ask enough questions you can do anything the boat looks fantastic I can see you guys so not for bucks up and buying a catamaran that's all messed up and rebuilding it from day one you could do it hope your channel gets so huge that you get to do that if you are so inclined again best damn show about sailing on TH-cam

As a suggestion for the doorway edges u could glue and tack on half round wood trim on the edge or end of the wall 45 degree mittered corners etc it could be stained to match the color of the paneling that could be done by a shop so all u had to do would be stain and attach it easy for u and quick it would give it a doorway trim look

More win win win. thumbs up and fun to come with the engine install. I saw a few things around your area that could lift the stern high enough to get the prop shaft out of the water long enough to do the work. I did a stuffing box and complete bearing with shaft tube and reglassing it into place by use of inner tubes to float it out of the water using some nets to contain the innertubes and backing my boat between two piles with
wenches and timed high tide and low tide work.. I made a jig and screwed it into place to get correct shaft angle to match engine.and where shaft housing placement topped out. This is just food for thought. Have a fun time...

I know this may not be what you want, but cabinet makers have an Iron on edge seam, and if done well it will turn out nice and smooth. with only the edges being a seam. it is usually very durable and looks nice as well!

Great job Matt! Guy it looks very nice! Very impressive work for folks that are not professional boat builders. Great ideas for workaround in small space which transfers over to working in a small shop. One suggestion is that I would seal that open end grain with some heavy duty marine sealer (not sure what would work) on the shower before you cover it. If water or condensation get in there it will pop off that nice laminate quickly. I did do that and some gangway boards I made popped off their laminate within two years. Great work!
