It was even better in the early-mid 90's. I was nine years old when "Smells Like Teen Spirit" opened the door for a new era of rock, which can only be matched by the late 60's / early 70's. I was in high school when Oleander, Third Eye Blind, Our Lady Peace, etc., dominated the unfortunate end of this era. God bless them all.
One of the songs that were buried in my mind for some reason and than it popped up on Spotify and I had the greatest feeling ever remembering it. This band rocks.

I never realized it back in 2001 but listening to this song Some 20 years later I realize how much it depicts that era, the sound, the feelings and everything about it
This song flashes me back to Spring of 2001 and my junior year of high school is about to wrap up. I saw them play at Live 105’s BFD 2001 at the Shoreline in Mountain View, CA. Only time I caught them live.
This song fully represents a time in history that was absolutely amazing to be alive in. Thankfully, it was during my formative years, which had the best music, culture and standard of living.
loved this band since high school, 1999... they had hard voice and soft voice... excellent guitar solo and rhythm, smart talented all around sound!! why did it fall apart. why werent you there?
I learned of Oleander at Woodstock 99 and I have been a die hard fan since. Why do all the great bands break up????? You guys need to get together again and go on tour. I'll never forget Woodstock 99 thanks to Oleander!!!!
Us teenagers didn't realize how good times were in the late 90s...we all tried to pretend that things were so tough and unfair....they were not....now we have children and would give anything for it to be 1997 on this day
It wasn't. That's prob y I still look back on this song .. Im still a runaway kid. I'm just in my 40s now. I honestly forgot about oleander. I only vaguely remember I walk alone from the top of my head.
When I was in college in 2004, the library I worked at signed out CDs. Someone donated a large box of CDs and this album was in that box. I signed it out and never returned it lol. This is as good as it was then.
I love this song. I love his voice, that...almost...Whiny...tearfull voice....like, he could be crying while he sings...or something! I love it! I miss thes guys!

I've actually heard that about these blokes, I've never met them but I love hearing stories like that. It makes the music that much more personal and gives the listener a feeling of connection.
I first heard their music in concert. These guys opened for Fuel and Three Doors Down and outperformed both other bands. It was funny because the lead singer announced, "You still don't know who the fuck we are!" and I didn't! That's when I became an Oleander fan. I mean, that guitar solo, man. This stuff is better than recreational drugs!
@@RCmack Oleander was better than 3 Doors Down but not Fuel. Everyone at the show said 3 Doors Down was the worst band on the bill and so did the radio guys after the show on the car ride home.

So much nostalgia for this track. I remember when I was 9 or 10 or so, the older brother of a friend of mine would burn these Dragon Ball Z AMV's onto CD's. So I had this CD with these 10 videos, and one of them had scenes from the Fusion Reborn movie set to this track (the AMV is actually up on YT). And man, I loved it. It's how I discovered this band, Linkin Park, I think Korn as well.

I used to love this band when they came out. Fast forward to about 2 to 3 years ago. I had forgotten the band name and song name. It was terribly pissing me off. All the sudden, I remembered it had a girl in the video that played in a lot of movies that I also couldn't remember. Then i remembered Manning? Was that her name? Then I looked up actresses with name Manning. There it was, Taryn Manning. So then, "music videos with Taryn Manning. And finally, "Oleander - Are You There". Then I remembered Oleander was freaking awesome!. They had a bunch of great songs!
This is the album where Mike finally used his voice and the experts say this is their worse record. I bought this in '97 for Last Cup of Sorrow. They sound best on this album. They be bigger. Epic made everyone think they were punk.

Great rock singles unlike now
"Are You There" is one of the post grunge era's best songs.
Here in 2024. The 90s were a truly great time to live.
True. But this song was released in 2001.
Haven't heard this song in so freaking long. It's just as awesome as I remember.

I requested this song on an American hard rock radio station on November 11, 2022 the same day I am writing this.

Anyone who remembers this song is an OG
I'm from the era, they never got that big. I don't remember any of their music and I was into all kinds of underground music
Haven't heard this in prob 15+ years. But it's like I visited my early 20s again.
If you saw this video when it was being played on tv, chances are you watched MTV2 when it was good and you are awesome.
I miss that channel so much. I would have it on for hours at a time while doing whatever.
I recall..Before it was ruined into a wasteland of teenage pregnancy "reality" shows, "Catfish" episodes and celebrity perfume ads...
