Detroit wrecker does some of the best work I've ever seen. They show exactly what has been done. I haven't seen anything just thrown together. SUPERIOR WORK!! NICE JOB GUYS!!
Thanks! The truck's owner passed away. His son didn't want to scrap his Dad's truck so he restored it. Many customers do in fact choose to rebuild their existing equipment, as opposed to buying new unit. Investing money back into your truck is always cheaper thank buying a new one. Your right! These emissions regulations are getting out of control.
This truck was done and gone long before I found your chanel. But this turned out to be one of the nicest builds on one of my favorite old skool bodys to date
Man what a beautiful job... I have 2 hpl 60s that I would like gone over at some point... not alot of rust down here in Texas but they could use some of you alls TLC. Thanks for posting these... loving it.
I am looking to buy a Ford F350 / F450 4x4 cab & chassis within the next couple of months. So far, I've been seeing vehicles in my target price range with a variety of beds. This will be my first steps into the towing business, and I am trying to get an idea of what a Detroit Wrecker lift and boom would cost on that particular cab & chassis. Of course each case is different, but a ballpark figure would help greatly appreciated. I guess this would be considered a custom bed, but I like what I've seen in the vudeos.Thanks.
About how long does it take for a job like that, I have a 1982 ford 350 wrecker, my tow bed is fine just the body needs to be reinforced ? I live in Minnesota but getting my truck to you wouldn't be no problem.
Great job but I have a question. Do you know if the owners choice to rebuild on a older truck basically driven by the desire to avoid the emissions issues? I know a lot of truckers that are doing everything possible to not get stuck with a new truck because there are fundamental design issues as imposed by grossly incompetent govt regulation. -
@@detroitwrecker $10K for what I just witnessed (act of pure Pleasure!!) being done to this truck !?!!!?. I understand each truck is different !!. But at the price of even a 10 year old Towtruck, This was an Absolute Bargain !!(Just don't take my comment as a reason to jack up your prices !!! LOL). I have a 1990 Ford F-350 4x4, Gas 460 with the 5 speed manual tranny, It has a Challenger 4800S(single line Winch) with a 24 inch Tunnel Box, I think it's a 1988 or 89/90 Bed as it was on a 1990 Ford F-450 Superduty 2X4 when I bought it in 1996. It was worked HARD AS HECK(LL) It's ENTIRE LIFE !! The previous owner would drag/Tow/Move ANYTHING he could with this truck as it was his ONLY Light Duty truck And his Daily Driver. And I worked it even HARDER THAN HIM !. I still own and work this truck !! Wanted to "Restore her Back to 90/100%> Always thought it would cost more !!!!!. Look for rust!!! Every where and leaks! I spent 2 hours looking my truck over and missed quite a bit.. I bought a 94 Chevy 3500HD. I had a 97 F-450 wrecker on my list. From what I read the 7.3's are more reliable than the gassers. But yea, you need to look at every single inch of the frame, suspension, hydraulic lines, controls, suspension and steering. Shocks were toast on my truck, I had to cut through the middle of the shock and mounting bolts with a grinder because the bolt heads where completely rusted over, dismorphed and fused to the shock mounts.. Be prepared to battle lots of rust and leaks,...

Is it even worth rebuilding to this point? I imagine this is almost as much as new so unless for sentimental it isnt worth it from a business standpoint
is it really cost effective to do a truck of that age? i have 1986 d30 chevy 6.2 1.25 ton long bed pickup. is there any used hydraulic tow/recovery bodies that will fit my truck. i want to use as small portacrane, do any have support legs? truck is single rear wheel with 285/75/r16 tires, will being single wheel hurt the stability of truck in this use. thanks
Joe Your question is something I have been saying for many, many years. A N Y individual with the ability to acquire a tow truck can be in the wrecker "business" the minute they take delivery of a truck. NO training NO experience NO business sense NO idea what they are doing.
Yep most states. I am in AZ we have an inspection for guys who are doing roadside or recovery work. Like wrecks. I been going for four years now. I see trucks out there all the time who do not have an inspection tag... Seems like DPS and PD just is not looking. I see cars on decks with out straps all the time. I got in the industry and now plan on staying because it is so easy. Next is a yard the ability to store for insurance companies is big money.
@@fingersmcgee2762 As with most people that join in with the wrecker business, they tend to lack the ability to comprehend and understand basic knowledge that is necessary to achieve certain goals.....congratulations, you too, seem to fit that criteria. Nice work Dudes...
I have the same truck but mine has a tunnel box. Do you recall what the cost was to bring it back to life Mike?
Amazing work! How much did this run the customer? I have a similar situation and would like to rebuild a 2000 450.
In this case it was around 10k. But every situation is different.

Is that a ford f-440
Malikai Daniel No, it's a F-Superduty. Ford didn't offer a F-450 at the time. It is a 15k GVWR truck though.
A cheap camera...it has that feature. It's an Aiptek V5Z6
WITH 6K IT IS MUCH BETTER TO BUY A BIGGER TOW TRUCK LIKE A INTERNATIONAL 4700
Bad Idea...for sure!
first of all its a ram the frame suck second its a 1500 way to light to carry a wheel lift and a car.
What a hellish awful racket, surely noise like that can't be classed as music, and I know it can be muted.
Horrible music
get rid of the dam stupid music an talk about what your doing, nothing worse then a vid with blasting music, if I wanted music id down load music
