I'm glad to see you expanding your palate giving them a listen, I highly recommend Vessel of Iniquity, just a little more Death Metal influence but it's exceptional stuff. And on the flipside, if you want something completely punishing and terrifying, check out Novae Militiae.

Yes, the airport intercom is necessary. Every sound, nuance, everything they did added something to the atmosphere that made this album one of the greatest listening experiences I've ever had. I just lay down with my headphones and close my eyes and its like a lucid dream where I'm in that city in the Dark Backward or something..This is my AOTY without a doubt.

As a metalhead studying jazz, this album blew my mind. I always wanted to hear jazz harmony in extreme metal and these guys absolutely killed it, it was everything I was hoping to be. Intense, creative, and unpredictable above all else. It’s absolutely insane

I enjoy some black metal but kinda consider this band out of my wheel house as well. I’ve heard of this band before and glad to see them getting more coverage. I think it would’ve been a kool idea to get a tag team review of this particular album from 3 banger team members. Keep Deekay since he would represent the outsiders listening to this, Dylan for the nerds who understand the theory and technique of what is going on and the Blayne or Sarah to represent the listeners better informed on black metal 🤘🏽i think those 3 perspectives would’ve been interesting to hear
I am coming from the noise/experimental scene and I understand why it would be difficult for a metalhead to understand this album. However, I feel this is the quintessential example of the crux of noise and black metal, my cup of tea. 8.9/10
What I heard in the start of the video I had difficulty hearing the guitars, let alone the bass, through the synth instruments (strings synthesized definitely, not sure what else), and the massive layered vocal chorus dominating the entire sound. I will check it out, the whole album through my monitors.

TR1L0B17E i cant get into it tbh. to me every song sounds the same. the new defeated sanity and imperial triumphant push the boundaries of what metal is known for, and honestly they aren’t comparable to ulcerate at all to me tbh. in my opinion DS and IT take the TRUE nature of progressive music, which is to break out from everyone else and try to break musical boundaries no ones broken before, and made masterpieces out of them. in this context, ulcerate is not comparable to these IMO. nothing on alphaville or sanguinary impetus is same-y. i’m not trying to diss ulcerate fans tho, i totally understand the intentions of atmospheric sludge and technical death metal. it’s a mood. but my taste leans heavily towards progressive and experimental, rather than atmosphere and aggression, yknow ?? it’s just that those two sets of moods live in completely different worlds, which is why ulcerate and the albums i mentioned aren’t very comparable to me.
another band i would recommend that i’m sure you guys have listened to already is blood incantation. their riffs sound like you traveled 20 years into the future and stole all the riffs and came back and made one of the best bands of all time with them. they are on another level of progression and experimentation and true art. the first time i heard giza power plant the day that album came out, i cried because i had heard them play it live and was waiting soooo long to hear that song on recording. and then they put it out and it was better than i could have ever imagined. please listen to them they will change your life
You all should get Sam to review the new album Misanthropic Breed by Lik. He would love this album. It has a great old school Swedish death metal vibe to it and shreds!
this album is really cool and has this weird "soundtrack" type feel to it compared to most metal bands. Very easy to place where you are on the record; I'm actually somewhat surprised it doesn't have a more overt "concept-album" sorta thing going on given the lyrical themes and overall style.

I always feel a tinge of opposition when I hear that Imperial Triumphant sounds like NYC or embodies the essence of NYC. Not to take away anything from the band or their music, if im not misunderstanding (and please someone correct me if so) the presentation and art is meant to represent the upper echelons of society, but NYC isnt upper echelon. If there was any Metal band that ever embodied the true spirit of NYC, it had to have been Candiria. p.s. i dont wanna be that dick who comes onto a vid to only give an opinion , so i wanted to also say this was a killer review and thanks for all the content you guys keep putting out. Veteran metallers HEXX have released a kickass heavy speedy/ power metal album in Sep 2020. why cant you guys review that? you guys always seem to review bands having weird names and overly mismash type of music. TRAVELER from Canada debuted with one of the best heavy metal albums last year, topped it this year with their sophomore "terminal shock" but you guys didn't even care to mention.
Meh, at least in my opinion, experimenting is nice but when it comes to metal and shit, yeah I’ll stick with the headbangers. Southern Cali has a lotttt that is ignored.
I must be honest, but I feel like this review was too subjective. I admire your way of analyzing the music, but in this case it was more about what the listener needed to hear, instead of reviewing the work, even if the difference in tastes is something constant during the experience of listening to the album.
I think I am too old for this now. That garbage was unlistenable. I don't understand the point of music played so fast that everything just jumbles together sonically and of course the growls.

I felt like it was like VOIVOD meets PORTAL with a huge jazz fusion flow. It was different & at the same time cool. I highly recommend them.

Yeah. I tried this as well. I really liked the musicianship and ideas, but as whole it didn't sit well on me.
The bass is what got me hooked on this album. Not really my style either but it’s an awesome album.

Very well made album but after a couple of listens... the weird shit got turned up a little bit too far for my tastes.
This is tame compared to a lot of stuff out there, especially in the realm of black metal
