I noticed that. Though I'm not sure how I feel about him next to KISS. KISS are such scumbags these days. It's fine that Daniel's a fan of both (ex-KISS fan here, though I sometimes still spin them) I wouldn't Riley within a mile of them.
One of the greatest releases in a long time. The way Grutle and especially Ivar approach writing music is a true testament to ever flowing creative juices and truly pushing boundaries within the extreme metal, not only breaking the mold, but creating a new one entirely. True genius.
The best thing I can say about Enslaved is it all sounds natural and not forced. They must have the greatest discography of any band, any genre period.
Hard to remember a time when a new Enslaved album would not find itself near the top on everyone's end of the year lists. I imagine this will be no different.
Absolutely phenomenal new album. 'Flight of Thought and Memory' is a masterpiece! Easily one of my top albums of the year along side Vampire 'Rex' and TestAmenT 'Titans of Creation' \m/
UTGARD is the only record I listen to when the wife is out of the house. She don't dig the metals, but, as soon as she leaves, I invite in the Vikings.
I just got around to listening to the record the full way through, last night, and i honestly lost track of time. It's an awesome record and will probably be on repeat for a while, for me
Enslaved were the ones to originally blow my mind and open my ears to extreme metal with Living Life Under Hammer back in the 90s. Sent a young man on quite the metal journey I am eternally grateful for. Over the years I'd never be completely into their new releases yet I'd always find something to enjoy while broadening my horizons and tastes. Will definitely be giving this album a listen. Cheers Enslaved and Banger reviews.
The synth/electronica track has to be a throwback to what these guys were listening to as black metal kids on some level. Some of the core group of Norway BM bands were into this sort of stuff, and that song has a proto-electronica feel. Some of those early bands split off into a more electronic/experimental direction quite early. The whole album is a stylistic journey/sampler plate, and I doubt that the stylistic choices were made darts-to-dartboard style.
Loved Enslaved since I found yes, i found their CD when working at Greyhound. It landed in the lost and found ofcourse been the only guy that liked metal they gave it to me lol...Will there be a review for the up coming Carcass???
The clean vocals on this album were fucking amazing, especially from a drummer. I can't wait to see how he pulls it off live. This album is already an instant classic in my opinion.
great review, I agree the album could use a tad more "explosiveness" just a tad more, but on the length of songs, I do feel that at least one 8 minute plus tracks would be very welcome. Totally agree on the evolution of Enslaved, its why they are relevant still.
I planned to go to Enslaved concert in 2 weeks, but Oslo is quite infected now so i don't know. Enslaved is playing 2 concerts the same day in Oslo. People limit. 200 on each.
I love this album. I thought it was more consistent that anything they've put out for a few years. I actually quite like the clean vocals as a counterpoint to the growls.
I've been into Enslaved pretty much since they started and I will always listen to (and enjoy) their albums, but the last few have sounded so similar that it just isn't sticking with me. It's done amazingly well, but I need something different to really enjoy it. Also, new Helstar?!? Cool!
Brave record! I found E a bit stagnated, uninteresting. With this album they took more chances, it even sounds poppish (in a good way). It's a step forward. I don't really like the drummer's singing in Homebound though.
No disrespect to Mr. DK whatsoever, but I kinda expected Papa Dunn to review this one. Speaking of whom ... Why hasn't Papa Dunn done a review during the pandemic?? Hope he's all right ...
i totally get why you dont like the utgardr track too much, but for a norwegian like me who understood every word it was quite fucking good but it something that of course is probably a bit boring for an english speaker but i can't see it really working in english either to be honest...xD would be really wierd Really great review was bummed when i didn't see it on release day so thank you so much for doing it!
This felt like one of enslaved not so strong albums. Still solid they dont do a bad record but after E i was expecting so much more. There was a lot of new ideas they tried but not all of them paid off
LOL no. Banger tries to cover all the different metal offerings, even the boring 90's also-rans. The Patreon vote is for one review a month. This Enslaved album is this month's review.
This was their best work since Aximo Ethica Odini or Vertebrae honestly. Riitiir was pretty solid, In Times was overly proggy, The Sleeping Gods was alright for what it was and E was a step in the right direction but for that set of releases ( Minus Thorn which was fucking great) they had focused too strongly on the prog and didn't balance it well with the black metal as well as not having mush psychedelic like everything from Aximo going down, Utgard caught me off guard with the tracks released over the year and finally the release because it perfectly mixed their new prog with their signature blackened psychedelics
I did not see the Mug on the Banger store Oh I had to edited my post because just saw that you have to pay $20 per month plan to get the Mug on the Banger TV patron Is there anyway I can just get the Mug ?
Love this channel. Wrong staffer for this review, sort of like getting spicoli to review fine diving. I def couldn't do a better job this record is too mesmerizing after 5 listens.
In all fairness, Sam should have done this review himself. Biased as it might have been, he would have been able to give a more ‘informed’ review, with way more background knowledge of both the bands catalogue and genre. But hey 4/5 ain’t bad. Still... album of the year?
I think Enslaved can do no wrong in their fans eyes. But I feel maybe they got some grandfather clause, respecting your elders, and an unpopular probably opinion there is some honesty and hypocrisy where another band would be dismissed issues at least to me. It’s a 3 record. Maybe even two and a half. Good job DK otherwise 🤘🏾✊🏿🤎🖤
Thanks for your review. I would not recommend this album. I think E is leaps and bounds better. I give it 3 out of 5 skulls. The chorus on “Homebound”reminds me of some crappy emo-band. I admit I am a hard critic but I think this band diggressed with Utgard. I remember being younger and excited about the new Metallica album coming out or more recently the new Dream Theater album coming out and we got St Anger or The Astonishing which was far from its name! I don’t think Utgard wasn’t as bad as these titles but it wasn’t that good either.
You're literally so wrong about your "bad" points and it makes me angry. The clean vocals, the end of Flight and Memory...these are what makes Enslaved truly transcendent.

Are you guys still doing paid shout outs on your channel? If so for how much? I remember you were doing that a while back
Shout out to Daniel for paying respect to Riley Gale by having his picture on the right side of the screen. Thanks Daniel & BangerTV!
Good eye, I didn't notice that

Riley Gale Forever.

Just saw Riley’s picture on Daniel’s shelf as well. A neat way to pay respect to the legend.
The best thing I can say about Enslaved is it all sounds natural and not forced. They must have the greatest discography of any band, any genre period.
100%
Awesome review Daniel! Love the new album
Hard to remember a time when a new Enslaved album would not find itself near the top on everyone's end of the year lists. I imagine this will be no different.
Oh man I was thinking you guys weren't going to get to this. Glad you did!

Dude is wearing an Evile T-Shirt. Much respect to him for that: they are a very underrated band, live shows are awesome.
excellent review Daniel. I love this record. Although I do love 11+ minute songs too
UTGARD is the only record I listen to when the wife is out of the house. She don't dig the metals, but, as soon as she leaves, I invite in the Vikings.
My wife is pregnant and hates that I listen to death metal when we're driving lmao she's like "it's not good for the baby" ahaha
BANGER TV is getting me through this crazy time. This is my AOTY - my favorite band of all time. Great, honest review!
I just got around to listening to the record the full way through, last night, and i honestly lost track of time. It's an awesome record and will probably be on repeat for a while, for me

Dekay Army!!
Another outstanding review! You are quickly separating yourself from the pack of other TH-cam reviewers. Sincerely, very nicely done!
To me the outro track sounded like it had Bathory rhythm with Celtic Frost vocals and maybe some Opeth guitar harmony. I love it.
amazing mix.
awesome as always dekay
I'm a fairly new fan of Enslaved and they sure as hell did not disappoint on this record. Seems like it could be in their top 3.
Great review its about time Dekay. A broken Clock is right twice a day!
Been jamming this and Spirit Adrift the most of any new stuff lately, killer albums!
Good review, thank you.
Holy shit this is a good album!! Also a great review.
Evile Enter The Grave shirt! I saw them a whole bunch of times during their ep days and around the release of that record. Wicked UK thrash
great band, stoked for the new record
@@BangerTV the return of Ol Drake, shame about his brother leaving, but both great blokes.
Nice South of Heaven vinyl in the upper right!🤘🏼
good eye
Great review. Thanks. I know only their first or second album.

Daniel or Sam, please review Mr. Bungle’s Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny, please! It’s a thrash masterpiece!
The clean vocals on this album were fucking amazing, especially from a drummer. I can't wait to see how he pulls it off live. This album is already an instant classic in my opinion.
just watch their livestreams, hes already pulled it off extremely well live
Like the combination.... 🌬🌨❄🌪🌊

Been a huge fan of Enslaved for almost 20 years and I'd say it's one of their best.
My dude, my dawg
*also do isengards varjendogn, if i spelled it right lol. Since theyre both almost released together*
I planned to go to Enslaved concert in 2 weeks, but Oslo is quite infected now so i don't know.

Such a powerhouse of an album.

Checked the store. There's no coffee mug! I want to buy one to support the channel even more.

I have the exact same Kiss Pez dispensers
Has there ever been a bad Enslaved Record? I've been listening to them since the early 2000s and not one album has had me like what is this crap?
i totally get why you dont like the utgardr track too much, but for a norwegian like me who understood every word it was quite fucking good but it something that of course is probably a bit boring for an english speaker but i can't see it really working in english either to be honest...xD would be really wierd

finally a review of a worthy album.
This felt like one of enslaved not so strong albums. Still solid they dont do a bad record but after E i was expecting so much more. There was a lot of new ideas they tried but not all of them paid off
Ok, I'll check aut
Dude it's like totally awesome
Like killerly great
Great review, but I was really expecting Papa Dunn to make it :(
The bad things that this guy complains about are things that Enslaved has done for decades and makes them amazing in my opinion.
One does not simply press 'skip' on an Enslaved album.
My experience with Enslaved is that they don’t put out a record unless it’s great. I’ve listened to all of them
So it's the patreon subscribers I have to blame for the Sevendust review instead of Pallbearer?
Well yeah

Badass review. Though, I give it 5-SKULLS.
4.5/5 skulls Enslaved rules
I did not see the Mug on the Banger store

ppl on Patreon have been asking the same question. we must have the mug!
@@rocioiribe5841 I been asking for the Mug for a very long time now

Enslaved doesn't release bad albums.
Never did which is good

haha is Dunn trying super hard to get you into music that isn't thrash?
5/5
Sorry Enslaved is Viking metal not Black Metal I been listening this band since put out there First Album
There's been a MASSIVE backlash from black metal purists pretty much since after Frost.
Enslaved can do no wrong
The thrash is reviewing Enslaved while the prog guy is reviewing Sevendust? 2020 is cray cray! hahahaha
You're literally so wrong about your "bad" points and it makes me angry. The clean vocals, the end of Flight and Memory...these are what makes Enslaved truly transcendent.
Trascendent Metal is Enslaved
No.
First comment.
I want to like Enslaved and bands like this but I can't stand the racism and antisemitism.
@Dudeman MGTOW Nazi incel.
I found this album boring AF. They have been recycling the same stuff for the past 3 albums.
