    Thank God for you and TH-cam! I am 71 and struggling against the effects of 4 strokes. I rolled out of bed at the crack of noon today, staggered in a haze to the kitchen to get some coffee only to drop my 53 year old percolator. The glass bubble shattered. (Plus, I think the pot had begun to leak.) My 1st thought was, please TH-cam don't let me down. So I entered "how to make coffee at home without coffee maker". Voila! I'm on my 2nd cup of cowboy coffee and beginning to think I will live after all. THANK YOU!

    One of my friends cracked up when I boiled her coffee in a pan, then folded a filter into a funnel to keep the grounds out of her cup. She decided she DIDN"T need a $100 one cup coffee maker. Then I showed her how to repeat the procedure into a mason jar, cool completely, make coffee ice cubes for iced coffee, and add the grounds to her houseplants for compost. It didn't take long for that city gal to go cowgirl.

    My grandmother was born in a covered wagon, 1876. She made coffee on her stove in a cast iron pan, same way...BUT, after boiling for about 4 minutes, she dropped 1/4 cup of COLD water in, the grounds DID sink.

      It would only taster bitter if it was BOILED ... The way we cooked it was ... boil the water, then drop the coffee down in it... take it off the fire... (add a pinch of salt) ... then a little bit of cool water (that would make the grounds settle to the bottom).
      It's a lot like the French Press without the fancy pot... Cowboy coffee is great, and I noticed it doesn't take as much coffee grounds either... Well, that's my taste.

    I'm sitting here in coffee heaven sipping on my cowboy coffee! I love it! ❤ My coffee maker stopped working and I'm sooooo glad it did! I've never liked the idea of making coffee from any coffee maker simply because of the hot water passing through plastic before filling the cup! I used a small heavy duty stainless steel pot which holds about 3 cups, followed your instructions, and my coffee came out AMAZINGLY GOOD! I will NEVER buy another coffee maker! You just can't beat old school no matter how hard you try! 😋

    I can imagine it would taste quite bitter.
    An easier way would be to bring the water to a boil first, then remove from the heat, then stir in the coffee. I just measure how much water I want by filling the cup then adding to the pot. Best to use about a heaping tablespoon per cup. Medium roast works best as it does not become bitter.

    Tried it tonight easy peasy! Tastes better than drip and easy cleanup, and you don't ever have to buy filters again.
    To speed up the grounds falling just sprinkle some cold water into the pan the grounds will immediately fall.
    Also using a deep sauce pan helps to separate the coffee from the grounds when pouring.

    I'm shocked how simple this regime is. I always had a coffee maker in my house since I was a little kid. This seems a lot quicker and to the point. I'm just now discovering this regime... what is the point of a coffee maker??

    I'm not a big coffee drinker but I do keep instant coffee around for the once-in-a-blue-moon occasion. My parents came over some time ago and I wanted to offer them coffee but all I had was the kind you make in a coffee maker! I knew there had to be a way to do it on the stove but wasn't sure how.
    I also remember my aunt used to use one of those cloth sieves (don't know what they're called) and her coffee always tasted delicious. So I'm gonna try this method for the next time my folks come!

  • @FactFinderGeneral

    In the end it's really just like French press coffee without the filtering press and being picky over the water temp or similar to Turkish coffee. If you don't want to risk grinds you can always pour it into another vessel and then put a wet filter over your cup and filter it that way. Starbucks has some decent specialty stuff but their standard coffee is, to me at least, nasty. Burnt or something, no matter where I go. Dunkin is ok but their specialty drinks tend to be too acidic for me. I'd take this any day over those.

      silver wind I love it a thousand times better than Starbucks. I had bought ground coffee & kcups from both, & McDonald’s tastes better & I made it in the pour over method & it tastes better than the kcups.

  • @angelaquintero1977
    @angelaquintero1977 8 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    I do this even though I have a coffee maker. But don't let it boil it burns the beans, if you have a reusable coffee filter use that to filter out the grounds. Oh add one pinch of salt, it does make it taste better (that's the way my grandfather made it). But if you get the hang of it temperature timing you can make a cup of coffee that is almost identical to Starbucks.
