A note: This is a one year old interview. Adding context in the description is helpful to avoid coinfusion.

I believed that the improvement in language models wasn't just in predicting the next word, but in expanding the next sentence and eventually entire concepts without needing to compute everything. This saves energy, increases speed, and still comprehends the information well enough to filter out increasingly complex concepts that are impossible for a human to fathom.

Sutskever is a brilliant thinker and it is always rewarding to hear his insights. May I say that the interspersed animation clips are absolutely worthless, irrelevant and distracting. The effort that goes into editing them into the video would be much better spent on proofreading the transcript, which has lots of misspelled names and clueless errors.

I like how he gives credit to his former coworkers, and not tries to steal all the glory for himself.
Sam Altman seem fake and evil, but I can not see any such vibes at all from this guy.... and his shirt is very charming.

Altman is f*cking terrifying. His vibe is like a torturer in a Bond film. Except he's not acting.

Interesting to watch something only one year old, and think " This is History. " - In a good way.

He gives a very resemblence of how Bruce Lee expressed himself, short to the point pieces of wisdom with pauses/breaks showing that he actually >thinks hard< before speaking with genuinity and ownership just as Bruce Lee spoke of his self made Martial arts with calm confident fire, he is the exact oposite of Sam Altman, he speaks of programming, AI research and the inner workings of llms/neural nets and transformers as an art form more than anything else

Altman, when pressed, retreats into word salad. I've always gotten this creepy psychopathic Mark Zuckerberg vibe off of him and it has only gotten worse.
And Zuckerberg himself, with the tan and the t-shirt and the chain and the windsurfing. Whose ass is he trying to fool? We know about his doomsday fortress in Hawaii.

In hindsight, human eyes had computation power and extend that to the GPU.

I think the usefulness of the other modalities of information are obvious when we think about the fidelity of information we get from them.
When I’m watching a video podcast, I get more then if I am listening to the audio alone.
If I just read the transcript of the podcast, I get other things perhaps, but less.
There is a reason why we meet in person. Because the information available in such a format is more.
And I suggest we don’t even know how true what I just said is until we find ways to store and convey all of that information in ways that AI can process and learn from.
I think really, when it comes to knowing what the roadmap is for further AI progress, we don’t have to look much further than the stellar example of the human learning machine.
