- Outspoken Tongan pageant queen Kalo Funganitao says she had no choice but to speak out over the weekend after an unsuccessful year trying to address issues offline. Now she's calling for a complete revamp of Tonga's iconic Miss Heilala beauty pageant.
I'm not Tongan, but I appreciate a strong Woman who has the courage to stand up for herself & others. This takes a great deal of bravery. Congratulations!

I think what you did was on point when addressing the debacle and complication of what you went through as Mrs Heilala/Tonga it was good that you informed everyone BUT the beginning when thanking a thousand people individually was too long you could have sum it all up into one big thank you to all those who helped you through the struggles you encountered, that was when everyone started making noises and the music coming on like they do to keep the program moving.
Oh shut up. You must have A.D.H.D. if you that impatient to hear the truth. She repeatedly said during the speech that it was going to be long and invited people to stand up and leave if they didn't want to listen. Everyone started making noises because they're animals.

100% support you dear!!! Good for you expressing your feelings. It's amazing how human speaks the truth, and the world turns against you, but when lies are spread, then most of the world believes. God loves clean heart, and definitely, God loves honesty and truthful, no matter how ugly it looks or sound. Truth is the truth. We as humans are too busy trying to make ourselves look good, to honor satan and fake of his people. Right on girl!!! Speak up, speak the truth and never stop, just don't get angry!!!!

I'm samoan born here and visit time to time these pageants are low key ruining the morals and image for what it means to be a real island woman growing up in a Australia I used to think beauty was all about looks and personality but revisiting my island roots I come to discover the women behind this embodiment left in the shadows beauty is about woman and how they carry themselves seeing island women harvest coconuts do the cooking weave fine mats council amongst each other in villages these are more the things we need to showcase it's not about one but about all women and how they shine in different ways pageants should come down to the vote from the people of the nation and not rigged like the poison traditions of western civilizations more importantly should be promoted about the experience for these women and not just about a winner love for all island people ups to this miss for standing up to her bullies like we all should !

It is common in human nature. Beauty always have jealousy lurking in its shadow. I've seen it happen in our Samoan pageants as well. No doubt it also exists in pageantries in other nations.
Families and friends of runner-ups will always find fault in the winner. Even judges don't escape the ire of the jealous brigade. The poor judges are like dart boards after every final decision. We are all too familiar with calls of favouritism, rigged, bribery, and so on.
One thing I know is that this kind of behaviour does not exist in the animal world. That's the sad truth.

She is no hero, but rather a petty and condescending snob. She was the bully. In China she threw a fit because she was asked to stay in the Tonga tourism booth, in Japan she sat in a dignitary's seat and refused to move to the correct seat. There are so many first hand accounts of her rudeness that it makes me laugh at the unwarranted heroine status she has because her 16 minute speech was cut off.
She lost the crowd's attention long before she ranted. There's a better way she could have responded and it's never by yelling at a crowd.
@Eloni Kautai yup her winning in the first place was fake. The other girls were all backstage when her team came and told her to go and change clothes because she's going to win. I dont blame the other girls for not congratulating her.

Wrong place and wrong time to bring your personal problems to work. I'm happy that they muted her microphone, she had the whole year reigning as Miss Heilala to make a change and speak out. Yet she waits for crowning night, taking away the spotlight from the winner and not fulfilling her last duty; crowning the winner. It was sad to see the winner had to crown herself, I understand what the group of girls hurt her feelings but that's a personal issue that the committee cannot control. You have to accept the good and bad and accept not everyone is going to like you. There's always two sides to a story.
I believe she stated that throughout her reign she has tried to address issues with the committee and had little to no response. Also, I truly believe that there is no such thing as "not the right time or place" when one feels an injustice has been committed. Malo ma soifua with all due respect.

But the way she went about it who's going to listen to her seriously? I never once said what she said about the comittee was untrue. I just think the way she went about it wasn't the best to get some real change and it overshadowed the winner and disrespectful.

Again I never said I praised the comittee, you can't assume my intentions. All I've said is the comittee has no control over what the girls were doing, which they don't. I never said that I didn't like what she said, I just had a problem with the way she went about it. And yes it did overshadow the winner even if that wasn't her intentions. It's funny the same corrput comittee that she goes against were the same people that elected her as Miss Heilala. Begs the question if she would've had that same type of energy if she had lost.
