and if you still dont have friends you can always learn multiple instruments and record them separately then add them together
That's the spirit!
@@anndynegative LORD hi anndy im a long term greg and i found you through dannys video a couple weeks ago and im happy i did bc i rlly like your energy and music :)
@@rebelsleighter I'm glad you found your way here :)
good idea honestly, especially if you don’t work well with others
I already do this, but I'd prefer doing it live, hence the need for other people.
Lesson one. Don't ever let someone tell you how to be a musician.
How do I figure it out?
If a Jazz band is called Monster Death Cult I’m 1000% gonna give them a listen!
I think it's a pretty great band name
@ElektraAllsenberrie it doesn't matter at all, the people you surround yourself with and where you find them will just be different. You absolutely should start that band!
@ElektraAllsenberrie if you keep looking you'll find people. Go out to local shows that have bands in a similar genre to what you want to do. Bands are collaborative so try and be open to other people's ideas too!
Trying to be in a band and get into the scene. already have 2 members and some songs written. cant wait!
Amazing! Keep working at it, you're gonna have a blast!
If you guys are still interested, I can be a singer/vocalist for you guys.
As a death metal fan, I would 100% listen to a band called the Fuzzy Bunnies
Me too tbh
same honestly
same honestly
😂😂😂 That’s how you get to the top 10
I was in multiple bands for years as the drummer. Once I wasn't in a band anymore, I didn't play drums anymore. Packing up my drums, moving them to the car. Unloading my drums, moving them to inside. Setting them up, move them in a corner. Move them on stage for sound check. Play show 🤘🤘moving them off stage after a 40 or 60 or 90 minute set. Pound alcohol and drugs. Move them back to my car (sometimes down 2 story stairs) Load up car. Drive home/my bands practice space. Move them back inside. Say "I'm going to fucking bed". Wake up the next day.... BAND PRACTICE!!! Set them up all over again. This is why haven't touched my drumkit in over 6 or 7 years. I hate them. I really do.
I left out a lot more. Ask me what I left out.
As a bassist, I generally try to stay on the drummer's good side and would absolutely help them set up when I was in bands. The rhythm section has to stick together as protection from the singer's and guitarist's craziness and keep everything all together without the credit (unless your Rush).
what did you leave out bro
Honestly with how current band names are a name like Fuzzy Bunnies would probably not confuse metalheads that much
I've been thinking about wanting to start a band - there's a few things that are a bit challenging. Finding musicians, naming the band and remembering the lyrics to the songs. I want to be as good as the band Type O Negative - if I had to guess what year should I start a band, I would have to choose the late 2020s that way I can give myself some time to figure everything out. Playing instruments and singing are also a bit of a challenge, I have to get trained before I can do more things. I'm going to have to think positive and see what happens.
omg same, same for tokio hotel i want to be just like them and reach fame but idk how or if i even will get noticed
in grade 9 i met my now best friend, he was a drummer, i was a guitarist and singer and we just started jamming together, we both loved punk rock, over the past three years me, him and another friend (bass) formed Primer, a punk band. We are just having so much fun, i would recomend starting a band to anyone. i am not a big fan of a band with anymone more than 3 members but whatever floats your boat man.
Practice is the best part. Not as fun alone, but its really fun watching what others do with your song idea.
This is awesome Anndy, thank you!! I’m quite a bit older but have always wanted to have a cover band. And one of my kiddos want to start a band so I absolutely shared this with them. Thank you again!! Rock on!! 🤘 🤩
Amazing!!! I'm glad it can help, hope to hear the kids band some day :)
Don't let the dream die! I always wanted to front a metal band when I was in high school. Now that I am retired (but only 47)....I still want to front a metal band!

@@anndynegative :D
Yup its that easy! *minus the endless life journey of becoming good at your craft (instrument) and not sucking as a band. 👍
You need more audience my guy!
Thanks Anndy, this really helped. I just started a band, and I only have one person in it. Its more of an online band tho.
Nothing wrong it that! Best of luck, you're gonna have fun :)

Practicing is the hardest part. I really would love writing music but I hate practicing lol
I prefer to meddle with my instruments and find out interesting licks or something, and I do like writing lyrics, but it seems still like being in a band just isn't for me cause I don't feel like practicing all the time. Would very much rather just party and goof around, ngl XD
Nothing wrong with that. Not everyone needs to try to be in a band. I say do whatever makes you happiest
I like your music
Thanks for the advices Andy.
I need to ask a question tho: I'm a guitarist, I'm not that great (beginner skills) but when I played with my drummer 2 years ago it was enough. After all we played skate/pop punk covers and it was enough, also I fixed how to get along with the drums. But after covid, school and other shit, my drummer is busy and can't play anymore.
So, should I become a drummer even if it's not really my thing?
I think finding a drummers is the hardest part
Maybe I’m biased because I play drums and only drums but I found the drums easiest to pick up when I was younger. No notes, chords, or pitches to learn. But it does require “feel” and a good ear especially if you’re planning on being self taught.
What I liked about drums after i learned the basics, was throwing on my favorite songs in my headphones and just playing along. Probably the most fun instrument to start on when you’re at square one of skill
@@conorm9575 I think I'll give it a try. Thanks for sharing your thoughts
It's fun to experiment with other instruments. It can be tricky to find a drummer and if you did learn you would never have a hard time finding a band to play it. That said if you don't enjoy playing drums then don't force yourself to do it, you'll just end up hating the idea of doing it
Honestly from experience don't force anything and just let things happen organically
Also making really formal recruitment processes for bands can come off as really intimidating and probably the best method is to jam with random musicians you can find nearby and see who you play/write well with
This is definitely a great approach. Always try to keep it fun, even if it's serious
The part where the kid just droppes his arms when his keyboard fell cracked me up so hard😆
I'm really just here for the memes 🤣
As I remember it was a Weezer song so it checks out.
Don’t have a backup plan, write really good songs and be professional. You have one chance to impress someone so don’t put garbage live videos and recordings from ur phone.
Me and some of my buddies of mines want to start a band but we dont know where to go or we dont have any space we want to rent a storage unit but we dont know If that's a good idea any bright ideas youtube?
I had a band once. I was 20 and the other members were 10, 11, and 13. The 13yo played guitar better than me (the guitarist), but he also played drums, so he was the drummer. The 10 and 11 yo didn't play any instruments. We had 1 original song and 1 cover. We played 1 show and made 1 music video. The other members were all brothers, so they brought their sibling rivalry to practice. Good times.
I want a band called chocolate covered bananas… what genre is that?
Whatever you want it to be
What is that "drumming is pain" clip from?
I'll never have a band cause
1. My only friends are online and they'll probably go offline before we're adults and so we'll never meet irl 😢
2. I only want my friends as bandmates
No. You’ll never have a band because you said it yourself. If you say you’ll never do something then you won’t. A negative mindset can do way more harm than you think.
Btw I’m not saying you’ll never be in a band, I’m juat saying that having a mindset like that is what’s would cause you not to be in a band
@@undriftedpop788 but I want to have a band with my best friends...
@@Alisonsgachaverse understandable but it would be good to start a band with people locally so you get familiar with being in band and until your able to be in a band with them. Also if they don’t stay in touch when they get older then they’re not your real best friends.
I’m down to be a friend as well I don’t have many😔… I do guitar as well🎸💯
It was really hard but i've done it! #mfilesband from london UK!😊😊😊
I just recently watched a video about people making fun of you how did I get here
I’m 29 and feel like it’s too late. I’ve written songs on and off my whole life but never really had the opportunity to chase the dream. I would love to be a pop punk vocalist, is it worth a shot?
I was 35 years old before my first song crossed 100,000 streams. It's only too late if you don't try. CHASE THOSE DREAMS
Glad he at least acknowledged that you are going to paying to play live these days in many cases.

Im a freshman and really want to start a band I play guitar but I don't know where to find people?
Flash your teacher
Do any of your friends play/want to play music? If not, are you leaning for a more alternative style? If so maybe see if your school has any openly punk/metal/emo/goth/ect kids. They always have the best music taste, and a lot of them love playing too. Just try talking to those ones :)
I have all the gear in my music rooms, PA systems, way too many guitars, amps galore, mics, a few nice bass’s, pretty decked out Yamaha drum kit, & insane amounts of software n pedals. Me n my homies just make rap music with beats we find on TH-cam… I keep telling them we could start a band n I have two on board I’m pretty sure with one knowing how to play a little bass. I’ll keep it updated if it turns into anything🤙🏼
only start a band for the love of music!...starting a band in 2023 seeking success is madness...if you want success just be a solo artist
No its nor "TOO LATE" if there is no scene of the kind of music you like its because you dont want a scene you either put in the work or no one will. Inspire people crush expectatives, make friends live life
Exactly
You’re only an angsty teen once, might as well start a shitty garage band and score one or two gigs at most 🤙
That's the spirit!
I would give fuzzy bunnies a chance lol
2024. Bands doesn´t pay anymore. Touring costs went to the stratosphere, the market is oversaturated, people are more and more addicted to social media that it´s difficult to find REAL musicians and no posers, and as the guy good described in the video, many of them give up after realising that the level of commitment is higher as long as the band grow, then you must each 1 or 2 years renewing the staff etc. The second point is age. When I started my music career in the eighties, I was 19, eager, ambitious and arrogant and the band was a kind of Union of Gangsters where we think we were so unique and a shield against the adult world. Today I don´t believe in that anymore - which is absolutely normal - and the only reason I would like to form a band is MONEY (Yes, I am a pro musician).
I agree with a lot of these points, but I do think there's value in starting a band for fun too. Just not if you want to make a go of being a pro musician
@@anndynegative Yes, in an aspect you are right. But if you mention in your video topics like "it requires a lot of practice (it´s boring and repetitive)" "how big of a commitment making music is", I think that the idea is ambitioning something pro or semi pro as reward...... That is for many wannabes a "fun killer".
HOLY SHIT STEPHEN STILLS REFERENCE
Good catch!
