Great video, thanks for the reassurance that I’m doing the right thing by putting patience and discipline ahead of sexy poker. I do get the urge for that burger at 2am once and awhile but it’s a learning process to build on good habits.

So true. I have suffered a bit of a downswing lately. In examining my game closely as a result, I noticed the exact leak of too high a bluffing frequency, especially at lower stakes, where a player might call down bottom pair. Need to more exact in when and where to bluff.

Great stuff...however, they missed one critical element in mid-stages. I got some great advice to changed my mid-stages strategy and success rate going deep(er) from a WSOP final table pro. He told me the best way to globally manage mid-stages is to try at very best to not make 'calls' to raises, either have a hand you want to raise or 3-bet with or fold. Making regular calls (limping is worse) is the sure way to chip off slowly and before you know it you have to shove at 10-15 BBs.

@chefski123 Question. Is the pro telling you only to play hands you would be willing to raise or 3-bet but you don’t necessarily have to follow through with the raise/re-raise? Or is he saying you only should play those hands and actually do the resize of three-bet?

I had gotten the same advice from a guy that was going deep a lot.

This is one of the most helpful videos I've watched in a while, and I've watched a lot. You can't control the hand you're dealt but you can control the hands you play. I've definitely noticed that I get a monster stack early in a tournament and then start playing too many hands and slowly bleed all my chips away and then wonder where they all went lol I will definitely try to keep it tighter moving forward

One Reduces Variance By Check Calling Like No Tomorrow!

I've played poker since 2009 on/off. I knew as a beginner I was making mistakes, so I downloaded the Sit N Go wizard, and spent several hundred hours studying and practicing with it, until I was making the correct play 98% of the time or better. It's almost impossible to do 100%.
So from there I downloaded FT Poker, and turned 0 dollars to 1200 real. 14.9 ROI which is good for S/G play.
I ran through spats of variance, as anyone will, but then the math would catch up and I'd run like a God. Unfortunately, Black Friday hit in April 2011 and it was all over.
So since then I've only played on Pokerstars play chips. Started with 15k they give you and got up to a high of 954 million. I'm currently on a downswing of 300 million over 4 months. I'm winning 2 to 1 favs @ 10%. 3 to 1 favs @ 15%, and 4 to 1 favs @ 20%.
526 hands total played in these positions with utterly huge negative equity, getting in dominating.
I don't tilt when I take beats, it's really easy to get over. I got in great, I want to get in like that as many times as I possibly can.
One guy who I've played a couple hundred games with said in 30 years of playing, he has never seen a run as bad as what I'm on.
I haven't heard of one worse myself. Yes, it's frustrating, but how can I feel bad? I got in good. That's the object of the game.
I'm wondering if they have put an algorithm on me. I cannot get my HH's, and they eliminated the "Hands" button, that you can use to copy and paste the hands, because I posted 87 of them on a website. They have all since been deleted off the website.
I only need to win 1500 of these in a row for the math to be close to what it should be. Don't think that will happen.

So to win a tournament you should have 50+ BB in the mid stages to protect against variance. How do you guarantee that? Last I checked, variance affected the early stages of a tournament as well as the mid stages.

Learn cash games first. Cash game players have an easier time adjusting to tourneys than tourney playrers do to cash games. Cash players have the patience that's needed in tourney's sometimes. Tourney players usually try to force the action in cash games like they do in tourneys and they end up getting picked off at the cash game table.
Reduce variance like they noted, play a narrow range from early position, maybe from middle position too depending on the players to your left.

We’ll cash game players have a greater edge IMO due to ranges different ranges in different spots, mtt range of hands tend to be mostly around the 15 to 20 category , where cash seems the range of hands are a higher percentage which kinda makes have to play tighter and wait for the hands

A lot of poker channels focus so much on advanced strategies, but rarely talk about the basic things. This has already helped me.
