    I totally agree with you on Tenacity. I was under the impression that it's the Holy Grail of Post-Emergents. However, my experience of it wasn't that great. It works though but it was just ok.

    Great advice on Tenacity. I see it pushed often as an end. Great for seeding, but in my case I follow it up with prodiamine 6 - 8 weeks later based on my germination and seedling growth.

    I find tenacity works well on nutsedge. Definitely needs multiple applications but I load it with Tzone for more effective results and greater weed selection/coverage. I use Scott’s W&F for my broadcast pre-emergent. Start in the winter with broadcast on the snow around Feb/March. Knocks out most weeds and I do a light maintenance with it at each summer holiday. Keeps me weed free all summer long.
    Thanks for the video and great info as always.

    • @davemanmartin
      @davemanmartin 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Me too, yellow nutsedge in my cool season lawn was basically dead with one application, then I overseeded and did one more blanket application of Tenacity and the nutsedge was totally toast after that. Hopefully there is less next summer, but I know I have a tool to deal with it effectively. They say you should always expect to apply Tenacity 2-3 times to get a thorough kill and not develop pesticide resistance

    Great Vid Ryan! Lots of useful info in this vid! Just a suggestion, I think you should have touched on when it is safe to spray a Post like Speedzone after and over seed! Label is the law of course. But some may have just over seeded a couple weeks ago and then go out and spray a 3way Ester! That may setback the baby grass a bit or even kill it. I would recommend not spraying any weed control on a over seed or reno until at least 2 mows on the baby grass. As always I appreciate all your content, and your continued education and teaching! Peace and God's Love! Chad Upstate NY

    Once you use Speedzone it's hard to go back to anything else, unless you need crabgrass control, then the quinclorac addition is needed.

    I just picked up a sprayer today. Used Ortho nutsedge killer with hose applicator last week, it was all over the backyard. The nutsedge is dying off, but some areas have taken a little damage and started turning brown. It's suppose to kill clover too, but doesn't seem affected. I'll wait another week and maybe spot treat it with their purple label weed killer. I'll only spot treat weeds in the front yard to avoid such a situation. Apparently the nutsedge killer is also taking out some crabgrass that was hiding. I have spot treated crabgrass if i find them, usually they are pretty large before i do. I think I put down my pre-emergent too early and not strong enough. Going to do it based on temp next year.

    Tzone is the best thing I've ever used on creeping charlie. Tenacity is fantastic for crab grass...pricey, but worth it. Two applications with surfactant a must. I use the Ortho on clover and broadleaf. Ryan always recommends good products. Great, informative videos.

  • @grants169

    People swear by Tenacity for knocking back clover. However in my experience it very slowly kills only about 20% of the patch, which takes up to 3 weeks. By week 4 or 5 it starts to fill back in that 20% it knocked back and I'm at square 1. In general I have much better luck with more broad based weed killers (that also kill clover) and they tend to work faster.

      I'm in the same boat as you. However with colder temperatures the growth is slowing. I plan on let it go until the new seedlings branch off with 3 shoots. Maybe only 2 shoots it gets real long. I used 2/3 teaspoon per gallon, rather than the 1/2 teaspoon for broadcast spraying. The 1/2 teaspoon is for spot spraying weeds because people have a tendency to over do it when spraying weeds. Use a non-ionic surfactant like turbo sticker or just plain old Dawn dish detergent. It breaks up the wax coating on the grass blade and allows the Tenacity to get in easier. Good luck to you!!!

    Can you mix tenaciuty with others,, like in the same jug?

    • @zeroturn7091
      @zeroturn7091 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you say same jug do you mean the sprayer’s compartment?
      At best I would use to separate milk jugs to mix then combine. If you really want to be safe you can use smaller containers, and as long as combining the two chemicals afterwards doesn’t turn into a gel solution then you should be safe.
      What is the second ingredient? You also want to avoid canceling out the effectiveness of the two chemicals, so if you want to be even safer look up the active ingredients of Tenacity. Then cross reference that with the new herbicide to see if there is already a known product combination at the pro-level.

    I know your busy but I hope you can answer this question, I had my lawn completely renovated 3.5 weeks ago. the grass looks great, BUT! I have an explosion of Wild onion and I never see anyone cover this , it's loving the cool weather and frequent watering. It's growing like crazy and looks like crap, popped up all over. Is it too early...3.5 week old grass TTF and Rye mix to spray on a weed killer? I thought about soaking a rag in round up and just rubbing it on the onion stalks but I am afraid to kill any grass I may touch. let alone spray something since it's so young.

    • @ryanknorrlawncare

    Ryan/anyone who has tried/anyone with a theory: I have recently overseeded the lawn as well as covered up some bare patches with seed and soil. Germination is a bit varied. The majority of the lawn could use a mow, but the new grass in some areas are still too short. Is it possible to mow the entire lawn at a height higher than the new grass height, or will this just pull it up? If so, should I just avoid these areas to the best of my ability or should I just be patient and wait? Great video as always.

    • @shawntarlo

      Just faced this, mowing did not pull up seedlings. I did bag in an effort not to drop clippings on new grass. I tried not to put wheels on bare patches obviously, so far so good bigger issue is where the seed didn't take :(

    • @mplslawnguy3389
      @mplslawnguy3389 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think technically yeah. You don't want too many grass blades sprouting too close together. I've heard some people say it can lead to problems. Don't expect a seeding to look like an established lawn off the bat. Give it time to come in and get thicker, especially with KBG.
