    I’m in western Wisconsin. We had high temps and humidity during Labor Day Weekend so had to wait 1 week before doing what I would call a full renovation on my 11,000 square foot lawn. I had to build up 6” of topsoil in front of my house and slope it towards the street. 7 1/2 cubic yards was used. I dethatched and aerated the entire lawn before doing so. Once the topsoil was down, I spread 4 cubic yards of manure compost on the entire lawn, followed by Jonathan Green Black Beauty seed and their started fertilizer. Typical first freeze is late September up here, so here’s to praying that it won’t happen until October!

Down side is, this is the weekend i can do it and the heat will be in the 90s the day after overseeding. Then the next week it's highs of 70s. ....upper 70s. I have an irrigation system, but should I seriously wait for it to be cooler or should I be alright?

    I just overseeded yesterday. I put down a thin layer of peat moss over the seed to enhance moisture retention. • @ElevatedLawnscapes
      @ElevatedLawnscapes  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Everything will be fine! You did not screw up. Grass seed does not require sunlight for germination. With proper soil temps and moisture the seed will germinate. I did not perform this step because peat moss is not a required step, especially in an overseeding situation. Peat moss can help with moisture retention but again, it is not required.

    Hi. I over seeded my lawn about 17days ago and I’m just waiting for the 21days mark before my first mow even though it’s super bushy. What type of weed control can I put on a newly seeded lawn? 2. If I chose not to apply any weed control just to avoid damaging the new grass, can I apply spectracide weed control granular early spring next year as a pre-emergent?

    • @ElevatedLawnscapes
      @ElevatedLawnscapes  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      After you get at least 3 mows on it can use the usual weed control products. I am not a fan of using weed control in the fall on new grass unless I have a major weed problem that is not allowing the grass to grow and fill in. I recommend getting your pre-emergent down in the spring and use a weed control then to kill your weeds. You can use a granular pre-emergent but I recommend spraying your pre-emergent for better coverage and more effective application.

    • @ElevatedLawnscapes
      @ElevatedLawnscapes  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is not a winterizer fert, its marketing for your last fert application. You should always apply fert based on what your soil needs from your soil test. Timing is going to depend on your location. Late season fert applications are not the most efficient for getting nutrients into the plant because nutrient and water uptake is less in the late season.

Do you think with adequate watering I can still put my seeds down in the same time frame? Love your videos and lawn!!

    • @ElevatedLawnscapes
      @ElevatedLawnscapes  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My advice is exactly what I said in the video. Watch your current weather, the soil temps, and your frost date. It can be done but if you are not able to keep the seed moist you are not going to have optimal results. When you seed may need to be flexible depending on your weather. Don't make it harder on yourself than it has to be if the conditions are not right for seeding.

    • @ElevatedLawnscapes

      I doubt that it was too late. Refer to the avg first frost table in the video and back up 45-60 days and thats your time for seeding. Spoon feeding is ok but you will need to do it frequently. The fall is the time to really feed cool season grass types. You should be getting about 50-60% of your total yearly amount of N down in the fall.

    Hey man great video and I'm a new subscriber. I'm on Long Island NY and I just finished overseeding this past week just in time for all the rain this weekend.
    My question is if my backyard is 2500 square feet and I have a scotts mini spreader and the Jonathan Greene seed says put my spreader on 6, how do I know if I'm achieving the 3-5lb per 1k square feet?
    What is the tried and true method for achieving the proper lbs per 1000 feet? Thanks in advance to you or anyone else that replies.

    • @ElevatedLawnscapes
      @ElevatedLawnscapes  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There are a couple of steps to ensure this. One, see if the label states the overseeding rate per the specified setting for your spreader. Two, calibrate your spreader's seed rate per 1000 square feet. You should apply 3-5 lbs of seed within that area. If not, you will need to adjust your spreader's setting. Three, you can weigh the seed prior to application to ensure you're putting down the proper amount.
      Thanks for watching and good luck on your overseeding!

    • @ElevatedLawnscapes
      @ElevatedLawnscapes  ปีที่แล้ว

      I do not have an area to use for that type process right now. One reason for the KBG not growing through your leveling material is that it was applied too thick. KBG is not like Bermuda, you cannot cover it completely and expect it to grow back through the leveling material. You will need to lightly topdress your KBG so that you are not covering the leaf blades and the KBG can continue to grow. If you do have areas that need more aggressive leveling and the grass blades get covered, you will need to reseed those areas. I hope this helps.

    • @ElevatedLawnscapes
      @ElevatedLawnscapes  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes now is the time to do this so that you can seed the areas that need it after leveling. It depends on how deep your dips are which materials to use. For small dips and bumps use sand. For major dips/leveling use topsoil then switch to sand for fine tuning later. It may take a couple rounds of topdressing to get it where you want. Once you start using sand continue using sand. Don't switch back and forth with topsoil and sand.

      I recommend taking care of your weeds properly with the required post emergent herbicide before seeding and waiting the appropriate period before seeding.
