Watching this video 5 years later and I still have my M50X. Just had to replace the ear cushions and jacket the headband. The quality remains top notch.
EZ_Man the good thing about m50x is how easy it is to tune the sound to your liking with an equalizer. I like bass, i like sparkles with highs, i like clarity. Altering the sound is very easy.
you're a beast best tech reviewer out there. actually second best to Marques Brownlee but you're up there. keep it up bro. btw bought these after watching your review, thanks.
Except you pay so much extra money for an updated m50. I just hope they did something else, like change the sound alittle bit(like better instrument separation)
I just picked up the Limited Edition Blue and Brown ATH-M50X's. Best £160 I've ever spent. Amazing headphones! I wish they came with a brown cable instead of a blue one though but that's no big deal.
the newer orange/blue color combo is really growing on me. i'm thinking i might need to go that direction instead of the standard black. time to add a little variety to my headphone collection :)
I really liked the ATH-M50S. I had it for a year until the earpads got hard and crusty. I'm so glad they FINALLY got rid of those things. They were the biggest problem I had with them. I really wanna try this version. I'm currently using the KRK-KNS8400 which are almost like a competitor to the M50. I actually prefer the KRK's sound signature by just a little bit.
Shall I buy the M50x or the hd558. I will use them for gaming and listening to music. I am leaning more towards the hd558 because they are open back so they will have better surround sound. However the m50x will be better for travel because they are closed back. Which should I pick?
I bought these upon seeing your review, love them! For a while I used them without any amplifier, but recently purchased a cheap Fiio E06. The difference in bass response was HUGE. I was missing so much without the amp, however do feel like the cheap amp may be adding a little whine/buzz to what I'm hearing. Do you recommend any higher end amplifiers specific to headphones one would use for laptop/cellphone use? Thanks! Chaz
Awesome unboxing video as always. You're my best "refer to" channel for headphones or audio related. But i always wondered, why you're not making any gaming headphone reviews? Like razer, cm storm, steel series, etc. Like me, i bought a razer kraken for both music and gaming. When im at home, i use it on my pc, when im outside, i use it for music. Would love to hear your review for some gaming headphones.
If you're just a casual music listener and want to get into the headphone game you should just get the athm50. I got mines for like $130 I think they are just $100 on amazon. Great sound quality, with any genre. Thick cord. And they look nice.
Oh okay didn't know that, I'm quite happy with my v-moda's in that case. Since i use my iphone as my main driver it's nice not to have to remove my cans to receive/make calls. Just that i auditioned these and loved the clarity they put out..
It's really flat, no need for bass, it's designed as monitor headphones so being as flat as possible is best. They have pricier "dj" headphones that look similar, are more noise cancelling and have more bass.
Maybe 5 years ago but . . . now there is the Beyer COP's Dt770, 880, 990, AKG line, CAL 2, etc. There are alot more budget friendly headphones that are begging if not already dethroned the ATH-M50 as the kind of the $100 range.
Sounded like the plastic bag was in my head! My Audeze LCD-XC and iFi iCan doing its thing :D On topic I think that this improvement was well needed for the M50 :)
I know that these headphones are widely accepted and you think they are very good and everything, but you should do a comparison between these and different kinds of beats to see which are the better of the them on comfort, style, audio, bass, and etc.
Personally, I wouldn't use monitors for listening to music as a consumer. I have some pretty kickass music headphones that have some yummy bass, but I couldn't use them for audio production of unmastered audio... Production is really the only reason I'm looking at these headphones. I would like something that reproduces audio accurately. Otherwise, I wouldn't like to listen to music with a flat frequency response if I'm lounging or something.
I'm not gonna say beats are good, BUT they did get slightly better since they were redesigned. They still are definitly not worth their hefty price tag. Main use of them is a fashion statement.
I'm planning on getting these, I've found them as high as $170 on Amazon and as low as a $120 bid. I've seen multiple TH-camrs like you saying these are super comfortable, sound great, and are at least 2x cheaper than Beats :D I have a question though... With that cord that screws into the headphones, the shorter one, that one isn't any different then the 3 meter coil and straight is it? Also, are these good for just average TH-cam browsing? Thanks! :)
The cords plug in the same. Would be stupid if you couldn't. And I guess you can say these are good for youtube browsing but your ears in a while will get hot and you'll need to take a break. But if you really want to wear headphones for a long time and have great sound quailty then get the Sony MDR-1R , they're $200 but I'm telling you they're worth it. Watch Uravgconsumer's unboxing of it and you'll see that he says they're super comfortable.
I bought these also on Amazon and was concerned but my copy had a scratch, the cables were wrapped in paper instead of plastic, and they sounded crap - so I sent them back.
Watching this so I could return mine, the headphones sound incredible although they just aren't comfortable :/ I really hope the new senheisers I get won't have horrible sound leakage
To me I feel locking cables arnt very much better then a soldered cable. I guess for storage/portability but you cant use 3rd party cables and if the cable gets tugged on it wont disconnect.
Do you know if you can actually remove the earcups from the M50x and put them on the original version? I suppose the answer is yes but I just want to be sure before I spend any money on new earcups.
is the plastic reliable, because i'm afraid that it will snap or crack, also i have heard one person say that the leather will crack over time it that true ?
I love these headphones, but there's one problem. Is the smaller cable and it's jack tiny enough to fit into let's say an ipod touch 5g with a case? Or do you have to take it off to use it? That honestly would be my only gripe about these things.
Have you considered trying the Shure SRH 840 headphones? For $200, they provide excellent value for a consumer looking for neutrality. I'd say they're neutral with slightly exaggerated bass. (not as much as the M50's) If you've made up your mind on the two, I'd suggest you get the M50's. I personally LOVE the noise cancelling capabilities of the Bose, but I prefer the M50's sound signature more. Very modern and appealing.
Hey. Sony has announced their latest headphones. In this case we are looking towards the MDR-ZX and MDR-EX series, Please do an unboxing and review when you get hands on it . Please....
Hey, I am trying to figure out whether or not I would like to get the audio technica's ath mx50. I will be mostly using them while in the studio for mixing vocals and etc. , however I would probably use them for casually listening to music. I usually listen to rap/hip-hop, do these headphones have enough bass to them because that is what I like to hear when listening to rap music. Please leave feedback and if you have other suggestions of headphones under $200 then comment those as well.
I have them and while I don't mix myself, they are proffesional studio monitoring headphones and audio technica is a trusted brand so I assume they're pretty great. for casual music listening they are incredible. A nice, crisp, almost warm sound to them. As it goes for hip hop, I don't listen to it much but from what I have the m50x's are still awesome. they don't have as much bass as say beats etc. but the bass is still sufficient enough to produce incredible sound quality for any genre.
I have been thinking about buying a new pair of headphones. My budget is about 100€. I listen to a lot of different genres of music and also play games. So I've narrowed it to these two: Teufel massive and Audio technica ath m30x. Thx for the help. ;)
Audio Technica is the really best, I recommend you to buy these m50x's they cost a little bit more but they're worth the price! If you can't get more money, you should get the m40x's cause' you can get them for about 80€/95$
But again this is a monitor type headphones the problem with having an Inline remote is that some android devices and PC's have problems with the inline remote. Most common problem is that it interferes with the sound channeling making sound quality shitty.
u basically bought an overpriced headphone. though it is great, but comparing it to some other headphones like the one in the video, it just doesnt stand up to its fame. there are cheaper headphones which have better sound. (i am considering that you are more into the performance of the headphones rather than their style and features)
I have my ATH 50x box pen markings in front lower right part of the box where the plug is shown... does anyone also have same pen marking on your box? when I saw the markings I thought the product might be pirated or made in China by an unauthorized company...
These or Beats when it comes to Bass? I don't care about style and I know Beats are overpriced but I mostly listen to Rap and other songs with lots of Bass plus having wireless headphones would be a plus and change for once. -Thanks
Watching this video 5 years later and I still have my M50X. Just had to replace the ear cushions and jacket the headband. The quality remains top notch.
Thanks for your video. I got myself a pair of M50x and they are great.
I am sort of a bass head, so how is the bass? I also enjoy clear non disorder audio as well. would this be a great buy?
+EZ_Man the bass is slightly more powerful then the treble, but the sound is overall balanced to benefit both.
EZ_Man the good thing about m50x is how easy it is to tune the sound to your liking with an equalizer. I like bass, i like sparkles with highs, i like clarity. Altering the sound is very easy.
@@KenzoLeong how?

I thought the exact same thing! I bought the ATH S500 though not the M50x (not enough money to buy it yet but I will buy it someday.)
ooohhh. Thanks for the tip. :)
I already did a detachable cable mod with my white athm50. SO nice that there's an actual update to these headphones.
Except you pay so much extra money for an updated m50. I just hope they did something else, like change the sound alittle bit(like better instrument separation)
SneakyCompy not that much compared to the tools i had to buy for my modded athm50, but still a very recommendable headphones for under 200$.
Julio Romero They are gonna be my next over ear headphone purchase. Im gonna get the Red ones though since they are little ideal for me.
I just picked up the Limited Edition Blue and Brown ATH-M50X's. Best £160 I've ever spent. Amazing headphones! I wish they came with a brown cable instead of a blue one though but that's no big deal.

They're currently $130 on Amazon in Australia, which is cheap as hell for the currency along with the free shipping
like 80 euro... holy fuck..
Good review. I'm definitely coping these for music production.
I can't wait until the red edition come out for these
There is no red edition, only blue and tan, but that went up in price already cause they stopped selling it
You never know there might be, they release limited edition colors all the time
I cannot decide between getting the M40x or the M50x because the price gap. What do you recommend?
I'm stuck between these and the v moda m100s ..any insight? And BTW great review , do a gf test on these I'm quite curious on the sound quality.
Thank God they made it have a removable cord that was the only real problem I saw in the old M50 but did they fix the lack of bass?
The only changes were with the design.
It's really flat, no need for bass, it's designed as monitor headphones so being as flat as possible is best. They have pricier "dj" headphones that look similar, are more noise cancelling and have more bass.

Have you ever seen the FR graph on the ATH-M50?
Far from flat.

is the plastic reliable, because i'm afraid that it will snap or crack, also i have heard one person say that the leather will crack over time it that true ?
No the plastic is strong enough. The leather probably cracked since he/she had a big head or abused the headband.
A good unboxing, thumbs up!
Which ones are the best
When are you going to do a review video on these?
I've watched a thousand reviews on headphones and don't know if I should get the audio technica m50x or the sennheiser hd 439

how ironic. I'm watching this with the m50x and I love them!

You will like this since you're a bass-head. It has more bass than the M50 (which in my opinion doesn't really fit its status as a studio monitor).
does it come with stickers?
should i get these or the older model?
because of the different detachable cables and u still use it with a ordinary smartphone
cool video like the headphones love your videos
M8 when you are talking about length of cables things like ''is not that long'' or ''its quite long'' are useless. We need the CENTIMETERS!!!!!!
gloryths In the box, there are 3 types of cable. 1 3m coil cable, 1 3m straight cable & 1 1.2m straight cable.
Can you do an unboxing and review of the Audio Technica ATH-S100iS? :D

Same thing as the first just has detachable cord and newer

The third cable should've had an inline remote that would have been real cool and convenient
But again this is a monitor type headphones the problem with having an Inline remote is that some android devices and PC's have problems with the inline remote. Most common problem is that it interferes with the sound channeling making sound quality shitty.
