    I'm always excited to find out more about how to propagate and care for succulents. The Jelly Bean plants are so cute. Yesterday I accidentally gave my cutting away in a mixed pot as a birthday present for a friend 😂.. Oh well!

      Water when they look dry/wrinkles

    • @seaglass8940
      @seaglass8940 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AlchemicNeedleworks I'm worried the fine roots will dry up completely if the soil gets dried out so fast? I heard even with Lithops, you should moisten the roots a little when they're young and haven't flowered yet, just to keep the roots from drying out?

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK
      @GrowingSucculentswithLizK  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's the best way to kill your lithops if the soil is kept moist all the time. If the jelly beans are in the soil, the roots will search for water and grow down in the soil/pot. If the soil is dry, it will show root growth from above the soil. This is an indication that you should start watering. Have a Merry Christmas and wishing you all the very best for the New Year.

    Hello. Would you suggest avoiding growing succulents in pots without drainage holes? Is it tricky to grow them in coffee mugs and similar size items mainly indoors with filtered light? I was advised by one person to place some sponge in the bottom of the pot if there is no drainage hole. I live in Brisbane, I'm a succulent newbie of 3 months and I'm loving my new hobby of propergating and growing them.

    love seeing you experimenting with different soil mixes . I enjoy trimming my jellybeans too, they look so much better in a cluster. Looks like I need repot my jelly beans from the intermediate mix to the master soil mix. I wondered why they were struggling, now I understand they prefer less rich soil. Thanks for the tip.

    Hi. Love your vids. Learnt a lot about succulents and soils from your channel.
    I have a question. How hard sunlight can kill these plants? I live in India, its 44 degree C in Summer and about 10 degree C in Winter. Summer is approaching, so I'm a little worried about my Jellybeans. They are pretty small in size till now.

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK
      @GrowingSucculentswithLizK  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jelly beans goes dormant during summer. Their growing season is during the wet season or when the temperature is cool (Autumn and spring for us). No amount of watering will make them grow fast when they're asleep unless you grow them inside with the air-condition on and can keep the temperature at a steady cool rate.
      Below is the growing temperature my succulents have experienced out in the open so far. Our Winter temperature can go down up to -11°Celcius or 12°Fahrenheit and our Summer temperature can go as high as 45°Celcius or 113°Fahrenheit. Hope this helps. Cheers

    Do you have also snow in your area? What will happened to your Succulents which are exposed all day outside? Can they resist the cold snow outside? Do you have a video of how to handle them during winter time? Will they not freeze in winter? I hope you can show us a video in snow time how they look like. I'm really curious to know because i planted also succulents here in Germany outside in the ground and i dislike to take them out to bring inside during winter season. It is lots of work :-) I have mostly Sedum. How about this Jelly Bean, can they stay outside in winter? Will they not freeze?

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK

      We don't have extreme frost like you in Germany. We get the occasional snow but we get a lot of frost and they are all grown outside. Thanks Liz, I’m also from Australia… G’Day! I was wondering if you know how to tell the difference between the different types of jellybeans? I bought a red and blue named. And I bought two that are not named so it’s hard to tell if it is pink, blue, red or any other colour they come with. Is there an actual difference that you noticed?

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK
      @GrowingSucculentswithLizK  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes they do have differences but also depends where they're grown to how they'll look. Since they have the same growing condition, I tend to not bother with the ID but just enjoy the plant. If it's really important to you that you find out the ID, may I suggest checking out the "Succulent Sellers" online as they do have good photos that shows the differences.

    So I see you let your succulents bloom. I'm of the mind that if I chop the bloom stems off soon as possible that the mother plant will save energy and put it back into the plant. What is your thought or experience with this practice?

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK
      @GrowingSucculentswithLizK  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Every plant/species/cultivar vary. But most of my plants I let bloom so I can harvest the seeds and also the inflorescence leaves to propagate. A lot of people don't like doing that because it attracts pest.

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK
      @GrowingSucculentswithLizK  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They should be kept in a permanent location. That means avoid moving them as they have to keep adjusting to the environment/surroundings every time you move them and spend all their energy in adjusting rather than growing.

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK

      Falling leaves is a sign that plants are not happy. Sedum jelly beans also prefers growing in colder climates(growing season). If the temperature is high(dormant period), they tend to also lose their leaves.

    If I grow my succulents indoor: I have to watering plants without roots or no? Thank you. Is that working to all succulents?

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK
      @GrowingSucculentswithLizK  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not all succulents. So many different succulents with different needs. All succulents will require watering.
      These jelly beans are freshly plucked and should be left to callous over even if they're in the soil. This is why I didn't water them straight away. After a couple of weeks, if I don't get rain, I will water them.
      Indoors will also be the same. When plucked, let them callous over, then put in soil and water after a couple of weeks. Let them dry out between watering. If left for a long time without watering, the color will darken/go purple or red; also the aerial roots will start showing....This is an indication that they require watering again. Hope this helps.
      Have a Merry Christmas and wishing you all the very best for the New Year.
