    Hello Liz! I've been learning so much from your videos! Thank you for being you! I've been watching your videos dreaming about increasing my collection of succulents. I have a small area inside during winter to play in but I start veggies in January onions, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, etc and some flowers for next year with 1 4ft shelve in basement with lights. But I sure enjoy looking at your beautiful plants! 😍 just love them soo much I had to message you.

That's what I always say every year when I buy plants trees and all. I love plants but succulents it's something different. And I really need to stop and deal with what I have for now that for me it's a lot. I said to my self this is now in the winter what is going to be of my self in the spring😳. A good one. Now if I put all the money I have spend in them I probably have a heart attack. But I get to enjoy them, learn from them and probably learn how to torture them like you do. 😂😂😂😂😂 Have a nice and bless day, Liz!

    Your first heat wave of 2021. I would say your babies are fairing very well. I can't wait for my ganzhou to get bigger! I have three leaf propagations and they are the most adorable fat chubby things ever LOL and the prettiest plum purple color I have ever seen. I was bad and actually took a couple leaves off of a plant from Home Depot without permission. It was the only time I ever did that but I took three and they all propagated so thank you Home Depot. I actually ended up telling them I did that and they really could care less LOL they know me so well there that now when they see me they know I'm taking all the dropped pieces and anything that's on the floor is fair game. I literally go in with a Ziploc bag in my hand. I totally understand when you say you didn't raise the plant so you don't know how it behaves. That's why I prefer that I've grown 97% of the plants I own, I've grown myself from leaf propagations. I know how they behave they are like my children. Well I will keep you guys in my prayers so that you get cooler weather soon and now I am going to be checking all of my pvn props for any sign of variegation today. I have one magic red leaf prop that is still fairly small but there was a huge controversy over weather or not magic red was an actual plant or just a pvn with the farina taken off and I do actually see a difference between the two. Although I do know there are crooked people who use a special spray on pvn to make it look like magic red but I have an actual magic red now.
    I'm babbling! Have a wonderful day and try to stay indoors where it's cool 🌵🌈

    For me and the plants I e experience the terminal plants are grown from the first few sets of new growth and babies are grown after the third or more into to older growth. So babies are grown from older stem and terminal or flowers are grown from near the center meristem.

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK
      @GrowingSucculentswithLizK  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Echeverias are funny plants. The Serrana in this video are now terminal/flowers. I have a sibling to this Serrana that have the exact the same spot of two growth. One growing from the lower stem is terminal and the other stem closest to the center meristem is a viable plant.

      If you're referring to Kalanchoe scallops...they are dormant in summer and prefers mild temperature. When the temperature goes down to a constant low 20°C, then they wake up and start to grow again. This is the best time to water them.

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK
      @GrowingSucculentswithLizK  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It mostly depends on the plant and the pot. Echeveria on terracota pots will have Master mix. Crassula in Intermediate mix. Ceramic pots w/ Echeveria will have advance soil mix and Crassula on ceramic pots will have master mix...LOL The one's I'm confused with, I put labels on the bottom of the pot.

      This is a difficult question to answer Leticia because you know me....LOL....I would just leave my succulents as is. They all get what the weather throws at them.
      When I started growing expensive succulents, I grow them undercover(or partially protected) where I can control their watering requirements. When I started having baby succies, I've left the Mothers to enjoy whatever nature throws at them.

    We have that kind of heat nearly 8 months in a year! and humid like 60-80%...sigh. this weekend we are likely to have drizzle. I remember in another video you said you would water deeply when they got a bit of rain. I am thinking about doing that but not sure about the reasoning behind it. Why little rain causes more rot than a lot of rain? a lot of water should take more time to dry so I had a second thought.

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK
      @GrowingSucculentswithLizK  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know it can be quite confusing but we have to treat succulents no different than any other plants. Plants takes in water from the roots and not the leaves.
      If you water a lettuce from the top or the leaves and not the roots....that lettuce will eventually die of dehydration as it uses up whatever liquid/nutrients present in the roots and leaves. If you water a lettuce from the top, it will not rot because the lettuce leaves are thin and are able to shake off the water or the water dries off before it can get absorbed through the leaves.
      Succulents on the other hand store water through their leaves, stems, roots, etc. with water that is taken up from the roots. Succulent leaves have stomata for uptake of carbon dioxide together with photosynthesis from the sun converts(process) it to sugars/plant food. If the leaves are wet(blocked), this exchange(process) can't happen and basically the succulent dies from....not dehydration but from drowning...AKA root rot. Add to that high temperature "ON" the leaves, the succulents leaves gets cooked and drowns.
      For better understanding in this subject matter, may I suggest to read up about "Succulent Stomata" or "Succulent Adaptation." Cheers

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK
      @GrowingSucculentswithLizK  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You probably have it too close. I would set the grow light higher until I find the right distance they like. They will also require more watering because the grow light dries up the soil quicker.

    Question: So the ones that have sun damage can be left in the same spot, its just best not to water them? I have a echeveria pulidonis and the outer leaves are all damaged ive been contemplating on moving or not 🤔

      I normally leave them where the injury took place. Moving them into another spot even if it's just a few inches can sometimes stress the plant more. If the soil is dry, I would water them. Soak and drain is always the best watering method.

    Here temp goes 48°C+ and all my succulents die no matter what we try they always die. Succulent is winter grow here which is only 3 months.

      A lot of these succulents originated from places with temperatures exceeding 48°C in summer. I find that my succulents do better in previous years when they were watered less during high temperatures especially if given overhead protection from direct sunlight.

    Liz may I ask what may seem a dumb question? I thought that watering made the moonstones chubby, but I’ve seen others say it’s the sunlight? Can you please tell me which it really is,?

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK

      Too much watering can burst the leaves. Exposure to sunlight will round them up because they're trying to limit the surface area that gets burnt. If grown in the shade, they will flatten(increase the surface area) to try and get as much light/sun as they can.

      It's all in the soil mix I find. When temperatures are high, it's best to keep them on the dry side.
