That pissed me off SO MUCH on my first playthrough. I was playing a male sorcerer, romancing Shadowheart, then Gale and I, who I thought was going to be a great NPC bro, in the tradition of Garrus and Jackie, was all 'Hey, let me show you something awesome about magic', and I was all 'Cool, learning an arcane secret from a dude who literally nailed the goddess of Magic...Hell yeah I'm down!!'. They, next thing I know, I go to talk to my 'I can fix her' GF, and she's all "Hey, I'd love to hook up, but I see you're with Gale now." WHAT! THE FUCK?!?!? As much as I really enjoy the game, the unrelenting horny of every character takes me out of the story all the time and is the main reason I'm having trouble going back through for additional playthroughs.

Yup. That's the same vibe I got. Having relationship stories in an RPG is fine and all, but the dialog was written like how some red-pill incel thinks people should respond. The choices are "be nice to someone" or "be an asshole" with the former always being interpreted as "let's f#$k." I used a mod to disable all relationships because navigating the dialog to avoid irrational responses was taking away from the actual game. It was Halsin that really broke it for me. Just casual conversation that escalated very quickly then dealing with his pout-fest when I'm like, "No thank you."

Not only does it mess up regular gameplay, but it cheapens the pursuit for the character that actually does want to opt in. Real relationships take effort and imo, the game should reflect that with at least MOST of the NPCS. Don't get me wrong. Having one or two characters that just don't get it can work because some real people get mixed signals. But use that for character development or else everyone just looks like they are fawning over the player for no reason...and if you're trying to play a character who is ugly beyond reason, it just doesn't work.
Also the fact every character in BG3 is player sexual. I don't mind the romance in games, they're pretty much a staple of the crpg genre for better or worse, but I like when the characters feel real. In dragon age, pillars and pathfinder crpgs some characters are straight others gay and others bi, some even have other conditions like can't be X race or must be X race and some don't have time for romance at all. I think that makes it feel much more immersive. Plus you aren't fighting off all your horny companions all the time only like a 3rd at any given time. Other crpgs also have harder romance flags than bg3, like some you honestly need a guide because they are that easy to mess up. Bg3 is just exist.

The characters had their race and sex preferences (except for a few characters in DA2) that couldn’t be changed. Like, Morrigan was only interested in men. You couldn’t romance her as a female Grey Warden. Or Sera being lesbian with a particular preference for female Vashoth and much less so for an elf player. It made the friendships and romances feel much more realistic.
This was exactly when I uninstalled the game. All the characters were written like they were low IQ uni students who just learned a few long words. I loved Divinity Original Sin 2 and thought this game would be a good follow up. It got real exhausting avoiding the dating simulator this game was becoming.

Ever wonder why your whole party in Baldur's Gate 3 was so horny? Larian Studios accidentally launched the game with the wrong relationship table. A testing table used for debugging romance events was set as the default by error. The bug was fixed in the game's first major patch, but the earliest players dealt with exactly this.
Huh...that would explain a lot. I got the game in early access, then immediately jumped in on day one and blasted through it. I was PISSED about the unrelenting horny from all the companions (though, TBF, Astarion's comments were some of the best in the game, even if I had no intention of a gay romance...another things that irritated the shit out of me, the 'everybody is horny for everybody, regardless of gender', mOdErN eRa crap), especially with things like talking to Gale about how awesome magic is, and learning a new ability to connect with the Weave, then suddenly everyone was like 'I see you're in a relationship with Gale'...WTF?!? It made me not want to do more playthroughs, and I've avoided it ever since the first run, because it was so immersion breaking. Might have to put my umpteenth playthrough of Cyberpunk aside and give it another go. Thanks for the info!!

It is a power fantasy to please all possible players, not modern propaganda. @damiien2684 It was literally the BG3 graphics pop-up and wasn't part of their D&D Logic series. This was as D&D slit as that because I have seen enough RPGHorrorStories where TTRPG DMs try to shoehorn sexual themes into games where some players are not comfortable with the content.
I started playing BG3 before they put Gale through therapy to make him sort of realise when someone was flirting and when it was banter. In dragon age, pillars and pathfinder crpgs some characters are straight others gay and others bi, some even have other conditions like can't be X race or must be X race and some don't have time for romance at all. I think that makes it feel much more immersive. Plus you aren't fighting off all your horny companions all the time only like a 3rd at any given time.
Other crpgs also have harder romance flags than bg3, like some you honestly need a guide because they are that easy to mess up. Bg3 is just exist.

@@imALazyPandaThat’s actually one of the things that I really liked about the Dragon Age series was that for the most part it was opt in and not opt out. The characters had their race and sex preferences (except for a few characters in DA2) that couldn’t be changed.
Like, Morrigan was only interested in men. You couldn’t romance her as a female Grey Warden. Or Sera being lesbian with a particular preference for female Vashoth and much less so for an elf player.
It made the friendships and romances feel much more realistic.

This was exactly when I uninstalled the game. All the characters were written like they were low IQ uni students who just learned a few long words. I loved Divinity Original Sin 2 and thought this game would be a good follow up. It got real exhausting avoiding the dating simulator this game was becoming.

Ever wonder why your whole party in Baldur's Gate 3 was so horny? Larian Studios accidentally launched the game with the wrong relationship table.
A testing table used for debugging romance events was set as the default by error. The bug was fixed in the game's first major patch, but the earliest players dealt with exactly this.
Huh...that would explain a lot. I got the game in early access, then immediately jumped in on day one and blasted through it. I was PISSED about the unrelenting horny from all the companions (though, TBF, Astarion's comments were some of the best in the game, even if I had no intention of a gay romance...another things that irritated the shit out of me, the 'everybody is horny for everybody, regardless of gender', mOdErN eRa crap), especially with things like talking to Gale about how awesome magic is, and learning a new ability to connect with the Weave, then suddenly everyone was like 'I see you're in a relationship with Gale'...WTF?!?
It made me not want to do more playthroughs, and I've avoided it ever since the first run, because it was so immersion breaking.
Might have to put my umpteenth playthrough of Cyberpunk aside and give it another go. Thanks for the info!!

It is a power fantasy to please all possible players, not modern propaganda. Though it would be funny if there was a "everybody is [sexuality] now" setting and they'd instantly switch love interests, causing all sorts of break ups and the drama that comes with it. If someone mods that I want them to have a shared inventory while in a relationship and arguments about who owns what.
yeah i heard about that but i binge played the game for the first week so much i never played the other patches. I just thought the game was set in the Phub cinematic universe.
The best part is the reason they were so "eager" was due to a bug according to the devs.

I started playing BG3 before they put Gale through therapy to make him sort of realise when someone was flirting and when it was banter.
I asked him about his cat and some kind of fish sauce he cooks in Waterdeep, literally never spoke to him again, partnered up with Astarion in Act 2 and suddenly Gale’s wanting to tell me ive practically pierced his heart with an icicle and acts all snippy with me til the end of the game 😂😂 i was like DUDE i literally spoke to you twice in passing 😂
