- Here I share 5 effective tips to help you fit more walking into your day. In recent years a variety of major international research has produced compelling evidence that sitting for more than 4 hours each day is detrimental to our health, contributing to:
Enzymes responsible for burning harmful blood fats shutting down
Reduced calorie burning (Metabolic rate)
Disrupted blood sugar levels
Increased insulin and blood pressure levels
Leg muscles switch off
With more and more of us working from home as we come to terms with the Corona virus pandemic, our daily incidental activity is being reduced. Irrespective of our level of physical activity, extended periods of sitting leads to increased risks of:

Thank you for these tips! I am trying to increase my activity by walking. I'm excited about my journey, but on days when I have low motivation/energy/mood, videos like these help me overcome that.
You are so welcome...with respect to motivation..very often people think you have to HAVE motivation...instead try shifting your focus to DO motivation ...thus places it away from thus concept that motivation is easy and everyone has it.the truth is..motivation can be really hard ..so be nice to yourself and praise yourself for your existing habits and pay more attention to the quality of your walking rather than chasing the quantity.

I am looking to get started again walking after my fall in the summer, Please could you advise some trainers that have a bit more grip on the bottom for the wetter days I did purchase new ones in the summer at the start of the walkActive course Merrill Barefoot, but they were very slippery when the ground was wet which contributed to my fall, I lost my nerve after that. Really want to get back on this horse but need to ensure I feel stable walking when wet.
Christine, I was advised by my physio to find "trail running" shoes - these have grips more widely spaced so if you encounter any mud, the shoes don't get clogged up with it - too much mud = shoes that don't grip
