And the best part is that on the drums, there are no overdubs. It's all Neil playing live on electric drums and triggering different sounds. And yes, he incorporated parts of this song into his drum solo. Bass drum with his right foot, snare triggered with his left, and all the other sounds with his arms...
Yes, some of the drumming in this is part of Neil's various drum solos. Great, evocative lyrics too. That line "Snow falls deep around my house and holds the winter light" I think all of us who live where it snows immediately understood what he meant.
the entrance back from the acapella chorus is one of my favorite Rush "moments" of all time... and what makes it is the fast delay-laden acoustic strum pattern in the background. Alex = genius
They did this song live on the presto tour and during it, a transparent curtain was lowered in front of the stage to allow the lasers to have a 3D effect in the auditorium. 🤘🖖✌️🥁🎤🎹🎸
I missed that tour, I would've really liked that. I seen them many times. But I was fortunate enough to see their final tour, Clockwork Angels in Houston. The guy sitting in front of us started crying on The Garden...I put my hand on his shoulder, he looked back at me, my wife & my guitar player and I said, "man, don't worry...I understand!"
This song is amazing 🤩 it’s one of my favorites off the album and a show stopper live! Presto is so underrated... it’s one of their best albums. Great reaction 😎
Yes, it's a good album...(btw, RUSH is my fav band) but this album and Power Windows and maybe one more, were almost unbearable at high volume because the studio folks mixed it with way too many high-end hertz/mega-hertz. Guitars and keys were just over blown. And the bass was not heavy enough. I know, Geddy went through a "running the neck" fingering phase for a while, and I loved it...he was just after that precise, clean, Rotosound Roundwound bass string in your face craftmanship. That's why he succumbed, and went back home to Fender Jazz bass-land...after the STEINBERGER & WAL BASS ventures.
Love every one of your Rush reactions TB. Saw this show 3 times (Providence, Tampa, Montréal). Lucky to see them transition back into a more guitar focused band. This song gets to me every time. Neil is definitely preaching on this one (as with all of his lyrics!). His use of imagery painting a poignant picture of life's beautiful moments and the seemingly more cruel, unjust moments, calling into question the meaning of life on earth. In so many ways he’s light years ahead, and in other ways he’s so very much an old soul; almost Ecclesiastical in how he reflects life in general and mankind's purpose here. Presto is definitely one of their underrated albums, though no less than their more acclaimed albums, and certainly showcases the Triumvirate in full maturity and musical capabilities.
"I’ve stood upon my mountaintop and shouted at the sky walked above the pavement with my sense amplified - I get this feeling all my nerves are naked wires tender to the touch sometimes super-sensitive but who can care too much? - I get this feeling Scars of pleasure Scars of pain Atmospheric changes Make them sensitive again each emotional injury leaves behind its mark sometimes they come tumbling out like shadows in the dark - I get this feeling when I think about all I have seen and all I’ll never see when I think about the people who have opened up to me - I get this feeling snow falls deep around my house and holds the winter light I’ve heard the lions hunting in the Serengeti night - I get this feeling forests turned to factories and river, sea, and sky hungry child in the desert and the flies that cloud her eyes - I get this feeling Pleasure leaves a fingerprint As surely as mortal pain In memories they resonate And echo back again."
Consider this song was made in 1988-89 and then think of the club beats that followed in the years that followed. Seems that Rush was ahead of the curve here.
Thank you Tone! You by far are the go to guy For Rush reactions.By the way thank you much for my request u did with Joe Satriani.Try Shine on American Dreamer frm Joe.
Funny. Everyone has a favorite song from this album and many others don't really even like it. I love this album, but I do agree that it doesn't have enough in the low end sounds. Doesn't sound like there's any heft to it. Not sure why it was mixed like that, but none the less, still one of my favorite albums of theirs.
Hey bro, this is your big brother. You need to do a reaction to Tom MacDonald. His song America, Brainwashed, Fake Woke, White Boy...all 🔥 but the coup de grace is Don't look Down. Let me know if you are down
@ Zerglilng RUSH has always been my fav band, 42 years now...but this song here....nope! Can't do it. Vapor Trails has a few songs I can't stand. And the entire album, Farewell to Kings...nope!
@@carlgibbons5777 As a diehard Rush fan for over 40 years I must disagree, respectably of course. Even the 3 guys themselves say that Tai Shan and few others are not good. I will say that the bottom Rush songs are still better than a lot of bands best.😎

Alex’s noodling in the background is so subtle and beautiful...

This song is all atmosphere. An underrated Rush track for sure.

I remember when this album first came out and I was blown away, I was more on fire for Rush than I had been in years
Yup! Neil does that same drum beat during his some solo's... or at least a variation of that beat.
Good catch!
The musical part played in the background at times in the documentary 'The boys in Brazil' which was part of the Rush in Rio DVD.
This song and "the wreckers" are super tough also "the pass" super emotional
Hi, Toe-Knee, I appreciate your candid reactions to listening to RUSH for the First Time. I am a Musician and I have been following their Musicianship since 1980, especially, my 1st album by them, EXIT STAGE LEFT. (Neil's Drum Solo, YYZ) Wich Impressed me very much. To perform and create the music they did live. UpI have seen and heard live performances, but, nothing like what day did. And I appreciate the the sound of their live performances, probably more than their studio versions, which is an art in itself. From that time forward, I checked into their material before and Looked Forward to all their Music / Albums that Followed through the Years.
41 years this Band was Together.
Rest in Peace Neil,
The Professor.
All Three Inspired Me to Be A Better Musician.
KEEP UP the Good Work on Revealing RUSH'S Material.

Sorry, for the Loss of Garfield.
You statement you made about him on one of your vids, inspired me to write this song and I hope you like it.
COME SIT STAY
LAWRENCE EDWARD GEBHARDT © 08/28/2021
VERSE 1:
I had my dog RUFFEY sitting next to me
I consider him to be my Best Friend
Love and Loyalty Instinctively
I wanted the Bond to Last and Never End
Obeyed me every time - Come, Sit and Stay
Walking at my side, at my feet next to me
Give me your Paw, Lay Down and Rollover
Played Tug-of-War, Catch a Ball or a Frisbee
VERSE 2:
Always, when I’m home, I was never alone
A Faithful Friend when I was feeling down
Licking My Hand, Face or just Staring at Me
Loved RUFFEY My Buddy to Always Be Around
One day it happened, my Buddy Boy was gone
All the Good Times that we shared together
A vague shadow passes by my eye
Memories Will Be In My Heart Forever
CHORUS 1:
A Real Pal, A Loyal Buddy, To Laugh and To Play
A True Friend, A Faithful Companion
That’s A Good Dog, That’s A Good Boy, Come, Sit and Stay
CHORUS 2:
A Genuine Pal, A Dependable Buddy, To Laugh and To Play
A Trustworthy Friend, A Reliable Companion
That’s A Good Dog, That’s A Good Boy, Come, Sit and Stay
CHORUS 3:
A True-Blue Pal, A Bona Fide Buddy, To Laugh and To Play
A Dedicated Friend, A Devoted Companion
That’s A Good Dog, That’s A Good Boy, Come, Sit and Stay

Yes, he plays this in his drum solo
"I’ve stood upon my mountaintop
and shouted at the sky
walked above the pavement
with my sense amplified
- I get this feeling
all my nerves are naked wires
tender to the touch
sometimes super-sensitive
but who can care too much?
- I get this feeling
Scars of pleasure
Scars of pain
Atmospheric changes
Make them sensitive again
each emotional injury
leaves behind its mark
sometimes they come tumbling out
like shadows in the dark
- I get this feeling
when I think about all I have seen
and all I’ll never see
when I think about the people
who have opened up to me
- I get this feeling
snow falls deep around my house
and holds the winter light
I’ve heard the lions hunting
in the Serengeti night
- I get this feeling
forests turned to factories
and river, sea, and sky
hungry child in the desert
and the flies that cloud her eyes
- I get this feeling
Pleasure leaves a fingerprint
As surely as mortal pain
In memories they resonate
And echo back again."
Yes there is a similar part in his solo. Good catch dog!!!! :P
His drum solo from Show of Hands tour closely resembles his drumming in this track if that's what your thinking.
It’s a variation of the drum solo in the R30 tour in Frankfurt...just a basic African rhythm...great ear Tony! 😁
hey man where are u?
all good?
Same Question
You get it ! I can tell, some people don’t get rush it’s obvious that you are part of the rush family now because you just get it!!!
Best song on presto,a really underrated album, production sounds a bit thin but apart from that.

The drum pattern was in his solo.
Try Anagram - Much better underrated Rush track off Presto, with bonus of great keyboard solo.
