    It's criminal not to have lockers. They should do front and rear

    • @PeakDecline

      No one makes a front locker for an HD diesel truck. Not available for any GM, Ford, or Ram. From factory or aftermarket. Zero. The torque would destroy it in situations where you legitimately need it. Now the rear locker... is actually finally available for these Rams. If you order a truck from AEV you can spec it to be based on the Rebel which will include a rear locker. And you can also now retrofit that locker to an existing Ram like this Prospector XL.

    • @healer81
      @healer81 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@PeakDecline I see your point. They managed to put them in G Wagons. The Bronco's have it but of course they are much smaller and lighter. I'm sure if they wanted to they can re-enforce things but it may make it much more expensive than it already is.

    That's beautiful. But I do agree with others that the overall package should include front and rear locking diffs. But we all know, maybe 5% of these vehicles will be used off road.

      I'm on my second one in 5 years and I've never been in a situation where I wished I had lockers. I know it's a popular buzz term to lock 'em up, but they aren't a cure-all. With the large tire size and suspension travel, and limited slip rear, if I can't make it through something, I back up and try a different line. Also of note: the Prospector XL package is a combination of parts and components that add up the total - if you want to put in lockers, and AEV offered that, it would have a cost. Now, with all that said, I'm not even confident there is a locker product for the 5th gen's at this time. I know gear manufacturers still haven't come out with a regear product.

      @@SwellRunnerI get that swell! But, I have used them several times in my 40+ years of Wheelin. And when you need it. You need it. Always remember it’s better to have it, and not need it. Than it is to need it & not have it. This is just from an old man who has wheeled a time or two in the last forty years.

    The Power Wagon has front and rear lockers, a helical gear limited slip rear differential, a disconnecting front sway bar, hill decent control, and an incredible amount of articulation. The Prospector is an absolutely beautiful truck, but as they say in Texas, it’s all hat and no cattle. You’re better off with the PW or the 2500 Rebel if you want to seriously go off roading. I would buy this truck, but only because it looks cool, not for its capability.

    First off I love, love, love the truck. I know that the fact that it is missing lockers bothers many. What I cannot wrap my head around is the payload capacity. This is supposed to be an overlanding truck and it only has 650lbs of payload capacity. Deduct the weight of the passengers and what remains for tents, fuel, water, recovery gear, food, generator…….I know what people will say, “the GVWR is conservative and the truck can handle more.” True, but if you rear end someone or lose control of the vehicle, being over the GVWR will not serve you well in court.

    • @Adam-hq7ob
      @Adam-hq7ob ปีที่แล้ว

      Same boat, love this and lockers isn’t an issue I rather have air lockers vs electric anyway. The GVWR is my concern. I don’t know why it is so low for an overland rig. Add a 40 gallon long range America auxiliary tank and gear 650 won’t be enough.

  • @johnkraft5640
    @johnkraft5640 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I have a Prospector XL and I was too disappointed AEV does not offer Lockers (Front and Rear) at least a rear locker would have been nice.
    I am weighing out my options now. The Ram Rebel uses the same rear Dif of 11.50 AAM but does have an electric rear locker. Not sure how difficult this will be to order and install the electrical rear locker portion or the spline gear set up.
    My other option is ARB lockers front and rear. Which does get expensive with an air compressor, lines and installation.
    The other thing on my list is to put a fuel tank where the original spare tire is located and be able to transfer this fuel into the main fuel tank when necessary and beefing up the AEV rear bumper and add a rear Winch.

    It's a really good looking truck, but it's not worth what they're asking. And assuming it was, there's a lot missing given the price point. Running 40s with no steering stabilizers? No lockers on a truck that supposed to be purpose built for off-roading? An in-bed tire carrier that destroys your rear visibility vs putting a heavy swing-away carrier on the already beefed-up rear bumper? Just doesn't make any sense. I mean, I'd be drawn to that truck like a moth to a flame, but once you get close enough you realize things just don't add up.
    I also have to wonder what the current impact of Diesel-gate 2.0 with Cummins is going to look like when buying a diesel Ram. I'm already reading horror stories of people not being able to register their new trucks because they have a Cummins diesel.
    And personally, I absolutely despise the Rebel/Power Wagon grill, so putting it on this AEV truck would completely ruin it for me.

    This an awful lot of money for a Power Wagon wannabe. Diesels are notoriously bad off road because of the weight, and AEV just added another 2000 lbs. This absolutely one cool looking truck, but it is basically just an appearance package. It’s not really much more capable than a stock 2500. If you like this truck ( and who wouldn’t), definitely get one, just know that is nowhere near as capable off road as it looks.
