This level reveals where those animal capsules were created. That really shocked me as a kid.... You KNOW you're not in the right place when you see those being made to take your fauna hostage. One of the best stages in my early gaming days to experience.
You know what makes me value this music? Simple! The composition. The way they mix the guitars and drums in a very fast-paced behavior is simply outstanding. They describe the true Sonic, fast and full of action. Man, I wish Sonic Lost Worlds has these kinds of musics, fast-paced and awesome, rather than pop-influenced musics. I don't hate them, I just miss the music they used to give.
Also this music sounds like (how to say it?) “Robotic” “technologic”? Very adequate for this level. I agree with you, even when AAA games have more budget today, I miss the unique touch on music they have back then, I am replaying some SEGA classics in my 360 and I notice how cool the music was back then.
+Lee Hearts it's more common than you think tbh, as much as there is stigma towards the megadrive's sound card, there are a fair amount of games on the system with excellent music.
It's a hell of a lot more common than you're making it out to be; while the genesis had that clunkiness that the SNES didn't, it was definitely put to better use than, say, the SNES' soundchip was in it's lifetime. Compare (Genesis) Thunder Force III's soundtrack to (SNES) Thunder Spirits'. The SNES version simply doesn't have that metallic crunch to it, and consequently the Genesis tracks sound a hell of a lot more grungy in comparison. Taste is subjective, but as I said, the Genesis' soundchip was knocked out of the park during it's lifetime, the composers really pushed it to the limit.
For my part, I think the developers of the console had to know how to use the instruments theyselves had done. And the only way the instruments of the Sega Megadrive, or as I know it, the Sega Genesis, would win against Snes's instruments would be comparing the games both consoles got, but Sega owned first. A very good example of this would be Langrisser, being Langrisser 2/Hikari my favorite, and having its clone, "Der Langrisser" on the Snes, with horrible music. But if someone compare two different titles of both consoles, Snes would win almost always.
My favorite Sonic track of all time, from my favorite Sonic game of all time. X3 Haha, I used to make my brother play this game for me all the time. You wouldn't believe how utterly obsessed I was with Sonic when I was little. Thanks for extending and uploading this song. I appreciate it, as a Sonic tard~
Yeeeeeeees!!!! i've been looking for this song for like, years now, seriously, dude!!! thanks a lot, u don't know how much i appreciate this, i never could remember the name of this level or which sonic game it was n all i remembered was the tune that starts at 00:25 :D, cheers for this!! it brings back serious memories :D
My childhood too! What country you from, buddy? It looks Slavic, a good strong Eastern European name! :) Also, I will do research and find the name of that little robo dude who drove the flying battery....the lost yolk of the death egg. O.o
***** Turkey mate, and you? In fact right after I submitted this comment here, I went through my old stuff, toys etc. and found my MegaDrive 2 and Sonic Cartridges but sadly my tv has no suitable sockets for my sega to work. meh :D
I'm American and I still have my 16-bit Sega Genesis! And I love your country, buddy. Turkey is legit! And be strong and of good courage you will find suitable sockets. :) My name is French because I'm from Louisiana where we still speak Descartes' tongue. :p
Çağlar Polat Well, according to my own logic over the mysterious badnick, he is basically a Madmole that is brown and silver that drives the Flying Battery instead of the blue and yellow ones found in Mushroom Hill. Why we don't see him in the second act will be forever a mystery? Yet, if they had replaced Robotnick/Eggrobo with this Madmole in the game; it would have intertwined the setting and story together a tad bit and made it more beliveable and would have given the game designers a chance to make Eggrobo go into the hanging secondary boss. Also, I disagree with a lot of gamers that say that the Angel Island zone flying machine was the flying batter because they were two distinct ships throughout the game and when the death egg launched a second time it probably got destroyed and the secondary craft was used in its place. Long live Sonic childhood dreams!
Happy 20th Anniversary, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles (October 18, 1994 - October 18, 2014). Despite the minor flaws, it still remains in the #1 spot on my personal list of the greatest Sonic the Hedgehog games ever. I also consider it to be one of the best video games ever created in the 1990s decade.
whatever Eggman created - it looks amazing. Just imagine - Egg Carrier, Flying Battery, egg drones, robots, vehicles which can stand against highest temperatures and vacuum (like lava batisscaff), Metal Sonic, Mechanic facilities and buildings, Futurized city zones, Launch stations for his mechanized creations, even Death Egg. I can't even understand how it's possible to create all this stuff in such a short time...
I was really confused when reaching this stage as a kid. Playing this level was hard and challenging, but the music motivated me to finish it. I barely made it thanks too the music. I still love Flying Battery's music, even if the level is frustrating as hell.
I love thinking how the only two companies that were really well known back then in gaming were Sega and Nintendo,I love thinking about the two consoles they both had. Also I like that back then you could be a Sonic fan and not feel ashamed about it since a lot of them weren't as stupid as the Sonic fans of today. The era where games like this came out really puts a smile to My face.
If you don't take Sonic CD into account, this stage has the crown jewel of Sonic music composition. Even better is that it's completely original and wasn't based on another song like so many of the other tunes (excellent as they may be). It's a shame the song's not longer, but at least we get a separate act II. Feels good man.
Man I started playing games at such a weird time, I had the GameCube with the sonic mega collection and played every sonic 2d game in there but just was never good enough to do so but I do have the know how to play from earlier in my childhood I tend to have a natural grasp for the game because of it, I just never got the chance to play through all these games and now I’m playing through mania then I’m going to get all the sonic games on steam then grind my ass through them
Not that there are no great games today but I do think the SNES/Sega Genesis era is one of the greatest generations that gaming had. I love thinking of the games with awesome music such as this and had wonderful gameplay and love thinking how something that was so simple was so good (still is) back before Sony and Microsoft came out with their Playstations and Xboxes with their fancy graphics, I love thinking of how the only two companies that were really *2bcont.*
This is in the original Sonic 3 as a catastrophe, just like Hidden Palace in Sonic 2. But a fully functional mini-boss is found in debug on act 1. The sound test is #9, but the echo gets off-track to the lead melody, which ruins the song a little. This was meant to be in-between Carnival Night and Ice Cap, but was probably moved to balance out the levels (Sonic 3 having 6, Sonic & Knuckles having 6 as well).
@RudedoggXX nice bro, you were able to name a small handful of games. Congrats. Sure, there are a few games this gen that have pretty good OSTs, but compared to the games from the '80s-'90s, there aren't nearly as many now. Especially if you consider the fact that almost EVERY song in this and many other retro games are really good/memorable. Whereas nowadays you're lucky if 1 or 2 out of a 20 song OST are REALLY good. As always, there are exceptions.
Yay! An extended version that DOESN'T use the Sonic 3 version of the track where the backing track goes off sync. This is the Sonic & Knuckles version which fixes the issue.
We are currently recording a lets play for this game. Hearing this song will inspirer us to sucseed! P.S. Who else thinks Sonic 3 Knucjkles is he hardest of the orgional Sonics?
To be honest, I had trouble with that part for years until a friend told me how to do it. You need to stand still on the barrel and hold press up and down on the D-pad to make it move up and down further and further until it creates a gap large enough to fit through.
@Gotmilk0112 I've found that if you pause the video and let it completely load before playing, the issue tends to resolve itself. Somewhat annoying, but at least it works.
@CurlyFry187 Well some things I do have to say was poor about Sonic 2 was the badnik placement in Metropolis Zone I mean who puts a that mantis blade boomerang badnik at the top of those yellow triangle springs you use to bounce up? I mean its almost nearly impossible to not get hit by him, also the crab badnik in Metropolis has this incredibly small hitbox that makes him hard to kill and then I always run into this glitch in Metropolis Zone when I go through this tube as Super Sonic but *2bcont
I loved this game being born in 1997 most people don't think I played this game and when I tell kids in my school about this game they say "it sucks it doesn't have good graphics!"
I think i found the thing that causes the breaks in the song, if you to task manager and open up processes you can see how much memory things take, average youtube videos take up 30,000-50,000k of memory under the name "Plugin-container.exe". This video however is in the 125,000-140,000 which is a very big amount for youtube to handle at once, so to prevent loading problems every two seconds it loads the whole video at once.
@CurlyFry187 and besides some of those songs lead to My favorite tracks in the Project Chaos remix of Sonic 3 & Knuckles music such as secluded stronghold, I forgot the Sky Sanctuary one but that was awesome as well as their Dead Batteries remix of Flying Battery Zone and Malicous Fingers and the Doomsday. But I think we can all agree that whatever era Sonic's in they have always managed to have awesome music lets just say that and leave it at that.
Underrated song. Very catchy
everybody rates this one of the best Sonic 3 knuckles songs i don't think it's underrated.

My favorite song in this game and the best one in my opinion. How could anyone hate such good music like this?
Sonic is so bad ass. He hitches a ride on Robotnik's ship then this music plays
Send sauce!
Like Mario XD
And then falls hundreds of meters down, takes no damage and starts snowboarding using a part of the aformated ship!
This music is the reason I love flying battery zone act 1.
YES SONIC MANIA HERE WE GO
oh my gosh my favorite tune in this game
This zone made me RAGE as a kid.
For me it was Sandopolis.
+joão carlos act 2

+Bob-ombs Away #itsiron #questflowpublicrelations the adrenaline would make me get psyched about the level.
+ricojes I like both of the acts in this zone installment. #questflowpublicrelations #itsiron
Probably THE best tune in the entire game, IMO.
We will never get anymore memorable songs like these...I cant remember one memorable song from these new systems.
It's actually impressive how the Sonic games managed to get such good music out of such shitty sound hardware.

My first Sonic level. I was a small kid being on vacation and watching my friend playing S3&K, I was so interested in it.

FACT: one of the best sonic songs ever made.
I absolutely loved this tune and Act 2 too as Flying Battery Zone was my favourite!!
I wish this looped for 10 hours instead of just 10 minutes.
This song takes as much time to finish as it does to kill a blue hedgehog or a birth defected fox.
This makes _anything_ feel like an airship.
