Nope, it's not the hinges/ pins , it's the paint that the exterior of hinges roll against .. gotta sand or notch down the wood :) Wd-40 wont fix it .. gotta sand or 45 degree the wood edges where the hinges rest against since these hinges untraditionally lay flat against the wood.
I read from other DIY'ers that the best angle of rolling slope for the eggs is 14 degrees. But some of that may depend on what you chose to use for a bottom for your nesting box... some people like plastic nesting pads, others prefer a grassy type pad...still others swear by just thin astroturf carpet material... two other tips... at the point where the eggs roll into the catch basin have 2 in curtain so the chicken cannot see the eggs any longer especially (especially good for egg eaters)... then have a "bumper" of sorts at the rear of the catch basin to keep the eggs from slamming into the rear and breaking. Finally... several people suggest using hardware cloth on the bottom of the catch basin to make cleanup far easier if an egg does break...
I really hoped that you had created a great roll away egg nest box. I wanted to get one on my coop when I place my order but your previous comment sounds like it isn’t all that yet. Chance that yours will be perfected soon?
Hi. We don't think it's a matter of perfecting them, but the problem is that you cannot have good nesting material in there and still have the eggs roll. We have crafted them upon request, however, we still believe they aren't necessary.
How do you know how much nesting material you put in if you can’t see it you have to walk around to see so you might as well load it from the front. Inside? How many cartons would I have to sell to pay that back?
I love this rollaway nest box, is it possible to make the opening bigger for easier access? Also I know that someone used Luffa for their rollaway nest box and it worked perfectly.
I used shelf liner…the textured stuff that keeps your dishes from moving around. Works pretty good and has holes so you’ll know immediately if there’s anything under it.
Matt doesn't seem to enthusiastic about this design .. and it's for good reason.. because it sucks for numerous reasons .. 1 being that the nest box is not open and easy to access or clean with that additional recessed door. The design is cool but the function is not. K.I.S.S Keep- it Simple Simple .. who cares about eggs piling up .. if you can't retrieve your eggs on a daily basis or have a neighbor or friend do it, or if you have an "egg eater" then you know where the problem lies. A weekend vacation shouldn't be an issue with the original nest box.
Oh , and if you don't want your hinges to squeak , slightly notch out or sand down the wood where the hinge rests on the paint. Those squeaking doors scare the chickens .. it never gets old
You're not wrong, we aren't big fans of roll away nest boxes, but we had some customers really wanting it. So we designed one that would fit best with our coops and would be functional and beautiful, no easy task. However, we still believe it shouldn't be necessary. Thanks for your comments.
@@CarolinaCoopsVideos I'm glad you agree.. your original design works the best ! I use those straw like weaved nesting pads and they work great. No broken eggs and the girls have no issues with them. Eggs stay in place, they don't roll and are easy to retrieve.
Amazing how this guy talks and talks for hours, basically saying almost nothing. Bringing his sales manager and completely ignores her, preferring to hear himself talking, again. Unprofessional, and a bit insulting mister.
Those doors need some WD-40 😂
I concur🎧

What degree is the roll away slop? And i love the grass rug idea.

Is it possible to hinge the nest box divider, so it could be used to close off the nest box?
👍👍👍👍
Are you going to sell the roll away nest boxes? I would love to retrofit my coop with one!
Yes we are and technically already do. If you are interested in purchasing one of the best thing to do is just to give us a call.

Cicadas are awesome. 17 years as a beetle, then …. One season to mate and die. Then bring on the catidids

I’ve been using artificial turf fo a while. I have 2 sets. So it’s clean every day just cut them to size and swap/clean simultaneously
I put carpet pieces in my rollaway nest box, and the mice put nest under them last winter.
There is always a risk when you put layers anywhere in your henhouse. Thanks for sharing your experience.
