  • Caravan update, its all over for now, a few weeks ago we did a update saying April had been slow and was this the end to the caravanning boom that we have seen over the last few years due to covid and the end of the uk staycation and uk holidays.
    with people now able to fly abroad, many people have been predicting a massive crash in the caravan market.
    So are they correct.

    price of fuel,price of campsites,price of vans etc its just too expensive-we used to caravan when the kids were little but too expensive now.

      Bang on, caravaning and camping used to be great cheap holiday. The site owners now are charging like wounded rhinos, that said England is still much more cost effective than Scotland the site owners up here think the bit of grass is made of gold the way they charge, not just the pitch cost it's all the others xtras £10 for awnings £3 night for a dog up to £8 a night per child more if it's an extra adult.

    Sold my 2021 Bailey Merida black edition. Price of fuel for towing, caravan site prices, insurance, breakdown insurance, caravan service every year, The hassle on the road from other drivers,
    Plus to many doing it now and sites full up no pitches. Storage where I put my caravan gone up £80 for the year on top of what I was paying.
    Just to much to put up with.

    £15,000 for a caravan, I don’t think so. Silly prices then site fees, plus hook up, awnings etc. In the end cheaper to book in to a hotel or premier inn.

I’ve been caravanning now for 31 years and over those years we’ve had recessions and the industry has always had ups and downs like other industries. But caravanning is still a great holiday way of life for lots of people and always will. I’ve had 7 caravans over the years and just picked up a new Buccaneer and nothing will detere me from caravanning as long as I’m healthy that’s the most important factor just love it.

    Our family owned a 2011 Bailey Pegasus Ancona S2 six berth from new and when our four children were small we used the caravan at every opportunity we could. Fast forward to 2020 and when covid hit we hadn’t used the van much for two seasons due to illness and the kids wanting to go abroad. The caravan had a full service history, Isabella Awning, powertouch motor mover and it was described by our dealer as absolutely immaculate inside and out. Every time our dealer would service the van the offer a trade in price of £8-9k and as the van wasn’t costing us anything we declined politely every time. When covid hit, things changed and unsolicited calls with increased offers came quite regularly. One day my sister in law said her friend wanted to buy a 6 berth van but couldn’t get one and asked would be sell ours, so bidding began at £11k and we sold it for £13,000 in March of 2020. Fast forward til today and that van, in much poorer used condition would be sitting on a dealers forecourt for the same kinda money. So yes, I think prices are still crazy! Wishing you continued success with your Chanel.👍

    I hope you are right Mark. But with inflation at 9% and still rising people will have to be careful with there finances. This will put pressure on all businesses. And remember the last recession was not at a time of such unrest within the world. We as the public will be expected to pick up the bill for all the arms being sent to Ukraine just as we are for covid. This is not a negative against you Mark far from it you come across as a great honest guy.

    What a honest guy, I would purchase from Mark just for his honesty! I have started looking at layout to buy our first Caravan so will take a look at your website.

    • @paulefc1971
      @paulefc1971 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Layout is everything Ed, so many people get it wrong first time and is probably the reason that most first time buyers sell or change.
      I would honestly spend as much time as possible researching the internet,peoples reviews etc (Dan Trudgian did a series of videos when he was buying his next caravan, although they aren’t reviews it will give you a good idea of the pros and cons), not sure if you have kids but that makes it even more important to get the right layout, get out and about to caravan sales places and spend plenty of time in caravans, if they know you are serious about buying a caravan they will give you plenty of assistance but don’t let them pressure you into buying something that doesn’t suit you, lastly, make sure you know what equipment the caravan comes with, a lot of sales places will take everything out and make you buy new kit, including the motor mover, as a bare minimum you will usually get the water pump, we have just agreed a sale on the Swift Celeste in this video and it comes with motor mover, water pump, leisure battery and wheel lock - so make a note of what you are getting, it will save you having to spend more money later on.
      Most importantly, I would say to enjoy searching for a caravan, it is a brilliant way of getting out and about

  • @grantmayos9639
    @grantmayos9639 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Here's the thing. Yes, you are quite correct Mark, people will always buy caravans, but honesty in any industry is valued by everyone. You keep up the honest appraisals and you can't go wrong. People are more inclined to buy from honest traders with integrity. It doesn't matter what other dealers say. Just keep doing what you're doing. It will pay off. No doubt about that.

    Seasoned caravanners aren't complaining as the situation helps them sell their current van for more than it was worth 3yrs ago! It's called swings and roundabouts...
    The only people moaning are those who have just started and have others putting their two penneth in. It's the same in any industry.... if there's a boom, prices are inflated.
    At some point the bubble will burst, people will be able to bargain down prices because the market will flood with vans for sale. But all those waiting for this to happen are missing out of so many adventures.
    Fact is, whether you get a bargain or pay a slightly higher price, caravanning is great! the van pays for itself in the memories you create with loved ones.
    Thanks to Mark and his team for honest videos and reviews of caravans. Keep up the good work.

    Over in Oz, we have just had the 1st interest rate rise in years. Prices have skyrocketed across the board, and wages are stagnant. Oh, and house prices went up 13.5% last year & are forecast to grow 5% this year, that's Brisbane. But life goes on & the caravan parks are still full. I just had my caravan serviced & the mechanics are still busy. I don't think prices are coming down. The rate of growth may slow. Just my opinion.

  • @fifermdr
    @fifermdr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Keep those videos coming. What people forget is that peoces do go up and down but usually on an upwards trajectory. Unfortunately there will always be people who maybe can't afford the prices for newer vans or might feel even that the price for a used van is way too much but that's more about their perception. Its good news for those who might have looked after their van and are perhaps having to stop caravaning as they'll get more for their van.
    Those wanting to change but can't afford a more up to date van, I do feel sorry for them as well but that's just how things are.
    People are obviously still finding higher prices affordable otherwise the market wouldn't be as bouyant.

It has full service history and last serviced in February. I noticed on the damp report that the highest reading was ranging from 16% to 20% on the floor the rest were 13 to 16% is this something to worry about before I go and pick it up and pay the full bill? I only left a little deposit. Also can weather conditions make a difference as it was in February on a wet damp day according to the report. Thanks

      Yes the 20% is acceptable due to weather conditions, we would recommend having it rechecked about 3 months later just to make sure. So would be worth just getting it rechecked before collecting to be sure. Hope this helps. Nice van 👍

    We are going in to a big recession and everything will come to a stop specialist luxury’s like caravans and cars just hope you can ride it out as the worst is still to come and it might be for a couple of yrs covid has crippled us and now the Ukraine war all the money we are sending over 300 million in tanks and armoured cars some has to pay for it and interest rates gone up and are going you again in a couple of months never mind food petrol and gas and electric going through the roof company’s going bust and making redundants

      Your wrong I’m afraid. A recession is just 2 consecutive quarters of GDP rising at a lower rate than previous. And although with what’s going will be devastating for the poor, it will affect fewer rich people. So although a few people that were in a position to make such a large purchase will be taken out of the market, there will still be plenty of others. There may be a dip in the future where some people need to sell a van, whether it’s a privateer with a job loss or a dealer that needs money to meet repayments to service a business debt, but inflation has and will continue to pull the prices up. Top end vans are over £40k. So anything a decade old or younger is gonna be £15k and upwards. All the new vans with a price tag of £35k are gonna nearly touch £40k next year which will increase the price of secondhand vans. The 70’s was bad for many, however if you bought a brand new car for £1,800 it was worth £2,300 in just a few years. History never repeats itself, but it always rhymes.

      I just love my tiny 2001 Compass 2 berth it’s so compact. Each time we wash 🧽 it with caravan cleaner , people stop and ask if we would seriously sell them our caravan, I jest you not , we say no we are very happy with it tyvm . It tows well and does not use a lot of petrol to tow it. I am very content with it and would not want to trade up. We have a good lock 🔐 on it , and during COVID I shield in it at my daughters . As she needs her mother .

      Yes we are nearly sold out again. Still trying to get stock is very difficult too. We are slowly getting more stock back in but its tough finding good stock still. This could push prices up if everyone is having the same problem. Thanks for your comments.
