Awesome history. Always knew there was much that made up my pride of being Samoan. May we always uphold our cultural heritage as we move forward.

Even to this day we still feel the pain and the tragic way our people were treated by the whites. Very emotional to every Samoan.

Many of us have moved on, not wanting to be bitter for the rest of our lives. Our ancestors would want that for us, to be happy and move on, as they made sacrifices for us to enjoy freedom and independence today.

they should now include viral and media resources in Educational institutions in Samoan History category. Especially in Secondary studies because these videos and ones in NZarchives are very vital and holds important aspects of Samoan History, Pre and postal colonial. Because when I was in College, studying Samoan History was least of my interest, since not enough records were available or I guess they didn't seem worth studying. Now, I hope they've change.

Before the Europeans arrived every Island in the pacific had its own style of governance. In Samoa it was known as Fa'a Samoa & it worked very well without outside intervention for 1000's of years. Independence is just a fancy word for locals with a colonial brain to run a country with European influence. Think about it they had to prove to Europeans they were capable & able to be independent. How about you look at the last 2000 years when they managed just fine.?

With Eurpoean contact came other problems like diseases, rabid animals, pests and many more. If Samoa was to use the Fa'aSamoa system to govern their country like they used to, the Samoan population would have declined significantly because of stuff like civil wars, death from introduced diseases such as Cancer, Influenza etc...Samoa only managed to survive with the Fa'aSamoa system back then because that was pre-European contact, where death from health complications were at a minimum. So of course Samoa would have to prove that they can run their own country, not only for the countries political and economical development, but also for the well-being of the people. I wouldn't have changed the history of Samoa in any way because if it weren't for our history, Samoa would just be another island floating in the middle of the pacific. Don't get me wrong, the Fa'aSamoa and Matai system really does work, but if Samoa was to fully integrate the Fa'aSamoa and Matai system into politics, Samoa's economy would fall, meaning less imports, more expensive products, and a great recession leading to the demise of Samoan people and it's culture. The land provides, but knowledge pays.
I hope I don't come across as being ignorant, but if I am, ou te fa'atoese atu.
