I was really looking forward to see how you replaced the hose.

I didn't get good shots of replacing the hose but it is quite straight forward once the old one got pulled off.
Put the clamps on, from the top feed the new hose down where the old one was and push it onto the bottom of the reservoir. It is a bit stiff and hard to get on. Don't tighten the clamp right away. Get back under the car and then you will need to push up on the new hose to get it up onto the pump. Pushing up here will slide it further only the connector up on the reservoir. Once both end are seated properly you can tighten both the top and bottom clamps.

I did my pump at the weekend and ran into this horror- trying to re-clamp the hose...The worm-drives I had by the bag-full were the 'next size up' Doh!

as long as my pump is still working its ok just to replace the leaking hoses, and maybe even the fan (and dress up the engine bay with an aluminum reservoir)?

Yeah definitely. They’re all separate replaceable parts.

@@RegardingAutomobiles yea for sure. im just thinking more along the lines of should i just do it all at once for piece of mind. doesnt look like too tough of a job tho even if i have to do it twice.

Ah okay, my vote is still yes! I have my subframe out right now (spoiler for next video) and I’m going to do the other hose and am seriously considering one of those metal reservoirs you mentioned.

@@RegardingAutomobiles awesome because the pumps are not cheap. yea im dressing the engine bay up a bit as i do maintenance (got mishimoto coolant hoses and aluminum reservoir in a box), the oem coolant reservoir is know to fail abruptly, the oem power steering reservoir has no issues im aware of but just going for aesthetics there. keep making videos for the mini and ill keep watching, since im building mine currently.

The oetiker clamps provide much more even clamping than worm clamps and are far less likely to leak. You need to get a cheap crimp tool. With the right tool, they are really easy to install.

Hi can you tell me what the full capacity of the fluid is? I want to change mine in my mini, but don’t want to buy 1 liter and find out its not enough. Its quite expensive.

The pump makes a high whining noise when it is working. If you don’t hear anything maybe the pump is dying and cuts in and out. Also check the cables that run until the pump. Is there is corrosion in them I bet it would give you intermittent power steering.
