I really like Surtr melancholic manner of speech. Like, its not just about him being depressed because he can't be together with his love, but he also lived for so long and seen stuff others can't even start to imagine - he couldn't care to act wise and sophisticated. Everything he says is simple and straight forward. "Love is pretty good"

He is still a child of a broken father without his mother. I can sympathize with Atreus, but doesnt change the fact that Surtr was annoyed with his devious personality. Surtr knows that he is just a child that hasnt experienced anything, he didnt lash out to him which shows that he is wise and calm (expected for a god that has live since the beginning of everything)
Surtr, despite having such a small amount of screen time, was easily one of the most outstanding characters to me. The NAILED his characterization: He's old, older than probably anyone else we see in this game, and we can see the incredible power and intelligence he wields as a result, but living such a long life has made him tired and melancholic. What he says about his love for Sinmara and being separate, it's an incredibly fascinating perspective that he manages to get across without saying too much about it. While its by no means a common perspective, its enough for both of them, and that makes it valid enough. Where I expected the classic strong, stoic warrior with primordial power and eagerly waiting Ragnarök, I found something so much more interesting. Well done to the writers.
I was pleasantly surprised by Sutr in the game. This is not what I expected when I thought we'd be meeting him. That's really due to the MCU portrayal. This performance was amazing and I really love how they adapted him. Also I found it so good they incorporated the blades here! Would've been a missed opportunity
I like how Surtr's turning into Ragnarok is a sort of parallel to when Kratos became the God of war, or "Athena's monster". We saw from the point of view of the receiver (Kratos) when he got the blades of chaos, when he turned lethal, bloodthirsty and went on a rampage. Now we see it from the point of view where we initiate the 'monster' in Surtr, who wanted nothing to do with Ragnarok and only wanted to protect his partner. Beautiful story really.

I feel like when one romantic partner sacrifices themselves for the other like this, it's actually pretty selfish of them. Sinmara has to go on forever knowing that she'll never see him again. You even hear her cries post game. While I've never loved so completely like Surtr has, I can say that the best outcome for both of them is to die together. Dying is easy. What's hard is living on while the one you love is dead.
The crazy thing is they could have just saved the Midgardians and the innocent Asgardians, then leave and just let Surtr/Ragnarök do the job: Kill Odin and destroy Asgard. Some would say that if this was what happened, the final battles against Thor and Odin will not take place. It can if they leave the walls of Asgard and pursue Kratos and the escaping people, or Kratos at least preventing Odin's escape. Kratos could have died in the flames of Ragnarok together with Odin and there will be no problem right there, it's just the other prophecy coming true.
If it didn't happen all of the other realms would have died/suffered immeasurably. The realm debilitating weather and deaths from it were coming due to the prophecy needing to be completed.

Surtr is supposed to fuse with sinmara to become ragnarok, using his flame and her ice. But since he has her heart, and put his fire into Kratos’s blades, he was able to become ragnarok alone
@@Technovore-X yes like Atreus finding the mural of ragnorak earlier in the game, it depicts surtr and his love creating a new person, who will cause ragnarok. But really, it’s just a newer version of the two. Almost like how the giant jellyfishes in the elf realm had to sacrifice themselves to consummate babies

@@Technovore-X well, during Ragnarok, Kratos asked Freya and Freyr to try and reason with the Ragnarok beast so they could evacuate Midgardians and Asgardians. It didn't work because, according to Kratos: "The beast is not whole", meaning that without Simmara there were definitely some disadvantages

My only problem with the game is that I wanted more time with characters like this and less time doing angraboda's shopping. Or if they really wanted her, explore her issues with her grandmother more. The only interesting thing in that story went nowhere.

God of war could i alot better in story line i mean If aterus is Kidnapped or betrayed or scam by odin and thor beat the shit out of him to work for his goal in order to live then kratos get to know everything about this we would see the scene of kratos coming to asgard with sutr saying ODIN I BRING THE DESTRUCTION OF ASGARD it would be so badass
