What a hero, they're great dogs, best breed I've come across. My Angus is a big softy but he's never backed down when some other inadequate jealous mutt has a go at him. He doesn't bark at any dog or cat, so cool...but I'm sure he'd stand his ground if push comes to shove. Scotties rule!!!!!
I was at the Scottish Festival in Philadelphia, PA, USA, with my Scottish Terrier. There was a big sign that said no dogs. A lady complained to a police officer that I had a dog there. The police officer, in full kilt, looked at my little girl, who was also wearing a kilt, then said to the lady "That's not a dog, that's a Scottie", and walked away.
Scotties never back down from any dog. Beautiful to look at, determined, fiercely loyal and protective. Great little dogs. Have never known anyone not to like them.
My sister was walking her standard poodle and our mom's late scottie, Mac. They came across a pair of rambunctious lab puppies that wanted to play, but they spooked the poodle, who promptly turned around and ran face first into a tree. Mac tuned in the puppies and gave them a good scolding for scaring his best friend! (And, seriously, they were a hilarious pair! Like Gimli and Legolas!)
I own two, a black and a wheaten Scottish terrier. They replace another Scottish terrier I owned. After our first Scottish terrier died we decided to get another breed so as to forget the painful loss of our dear Oreo. But after looking at so many breeds we quickly realized that no other breed was ever going to satisfy us and be as lovable as the Scottish Terrier. There was simply no other better breed.
I’ve owned different breeds and Scotties are hands down the best. One distinct characteristic is you can’t scold them like other breeds when they misbehave. Their feelings get hurt like I’ve never seen in other breeds. Be firm with them but no scolding. Also, they don’t have a flight mechanism when challenged. They will literally fight to the death regardless of the size of the challenger, thus the “diehard” breed. Mine gets along with strangers, loves children and likes about half of the dogs he meets. He’s a great companion, loves to play, super cute and very loving.

Exactly! Our Fergus is exactly as you describe! He has more of a cat personality than our cats 🐈 Although, he loves going along to doggy daycare 2 days per week! We hope to get him a little brother soon. He’s a Wheaten so we’d like to get a black one. Can’t wait!🐾

Oh my god! My sister has a 13 year old JRT (Sheena) and our parents had gotten a scottie pup (Mac) before sis moved out. The brother-sister dynamic was hilarious! If Mac wanted to play, but Sheena wanted to nap, Mac would find one of Sheena's toys and squeak it right in front of her, taunting her. If Sheena had enough of Mac, she would bark to go outside, go a step out the door, let Mac run out, all "Tally-Ho!" into the yard, then swoop back in the house and look up at us like "Close the door! Don't let him back in!"
Scotties are the die-hard breed, big dogs that come in a small package. I have a wheaten one, he will be 13 in June this year. He likes taking rides with me in my 73 Morgan +8, he even got his own goggles ...
My Scotty was the best dog I ever had. Very hard worker and a lover. He was protective of me and the rest of the pack. I had Bouviers at the same time and my Scottie ruled the pack. Excellent judge of character too. He was a true Scotsman up to the very end and so brave. I miss him and its been 7yrs. Godspeed Mr. McDoogle. Mommy loves you.
I am on my fourth Scotty. 3 females and one male. They love to dig, especially if a mole is in the area. They have killed snakes, mice and a small raccoon. Love those little stubborn dogs.

Having my third Scottie, I still love the breed. 5/2024 Update: Unfortunately I had to put my sweet Maggie to rest. She was 17 years old and we spent many happy hours and adventures together. Miss her like crazy, she was a good girl.
We had one as teenagers and my sister had two until about 6 years ago. Half brother and sister. One of hers was outgoing and the other shy. Each with their own personalities, so it’s hard to generalize. Breed definitely has a strong prey instinct. Wonderful breed.
Of course, every dog will be slightly different, i make the video mostly based on official information from kennel clubs, but as you said, there will be differences between every dog.

My experience with scotties is that they are NOT barkers, contrary to what most sources say. This is my third scottie from two different breeders and none of them were barkers.
I had a Scotty I'd rescued from a puppy mill. She was my best pal for 17 years she bonded with my youngest daughter but when my daughter wasn't around she never left my side. She did run a lot, one time I was trying to catch her and had to use my car to go after her and I clocked her going 45 mph. She was definitely friendly with other dogs though. Made it tough when my grand-doggy came to visit!

Amen. Mine protected me and my Bouvier from an Alaskan Malmute. Jumped on him and went right into that dogs neck. He took no crap from anyone, ever.

Scotties have the personality of a cat, but are far more loyal. Very independent dogs. Ours is very stubborn, but very loving as well.
