Here is your Potemkin Combo Guide for Season 2 of Guilty Gear Strive! A lot of what he does remain classic, however there is a few new tricks not the least of which is his new Giganter Kai combo routes, which give him a lot more damage in situations he never had before. So here is a bunch of practical combos for you and hope it helps you out!
P = Punch
K = Kick
S = Slash

FOREWARD:
So Potemkin. He's either basic, or honestly the hardest combo character in the game. For a lot of the most optimal stuff you will need things like kara back megafist, multiples of them, and any flaw in your consistency = dropped combo. Its why in the video theres some easier examples and some harder examples. For a lot of the combos legitimately if you are concerned about the drop, its not worth the extra 7~15 damage, just go with consistency.
WHAT IS KARA?:
Simple in a way, for Potemkin its infusing a move with his forward+K shoulder charge, which makes it move forward. Basically do your move, hit forward+K, then hit the button you need
So for kara buster
half circle back, forward, K ~ P
Kara garuda
quarter circle back, forward, K~HS
REMINDER:
After basically every combo make sure to hammerfall(cancel) to gain space and get back on top of the enemy!

As promised its time to update some of the Guilty Gear Strive guides for Season 2 so lets start with Potemkin! The old boy keeps a lot of the basics, but has a lot more edge to him thanks to Giganter Kai combos giving a lot of reach to basic hits, giving them a lot of teeth! As always the kara stuff can be tricky, and honestly I think potemkin is the most mechanically difficult character in the game cause of that, nobody else has such strict requirements but thems the breaks! Small kara explanation in the video description, or google the older Potemkin tips and tricks guide(update eventually?) for a vid with a large section dedicated to it if you don't understand the concept. Few things in fighting games are as satisfying as getting that command grab dunk with a grappler. Not only do you get some fat damage but your opponent has several seconds pressed between your pectorals to reflect on their decisions.
Pot Buster has high damage but its mental damage is higher
So yeah updating a bunch of stuff for Strive for Season 2 will be happening over the course of the next few weeks on the channel on top of the usual stuff! Update on the old big Potemkin guide? Maybe, as its basically my crowning achievement of all guides I have ever done over the years, but if it happens no timeframe, it will come when it comes.
@rooflemonger is the guide still valid? i mean if i want to learn the character, can i still use all thats in the guide or some things dont work anymore?
@@---do2qd most of the big guide is still valid, but he's gone under enough changes that certain things dont work anymore/no point to anymore.

It's beautiful seeing our boy Potemkin again. About the Cornered Pot Buster combo, I have to say I never thought about simply doing forward Red RC for that side Switch, what I did instead was delay the RC Timing in order to get a Purple RC just as Potemkin is about to toss him for that side-switch. Thanks to Season 2's RC changes, Pot Buster > 66 Fast Purple RC > into Charged Dust can work as an option making use of Fast RC's lower cost. ^^

I JUST picked up Potempkin last week, I been playing the game casually for almost a year now and I got kinda sick of pretty much only knowing Ram, I could "play" other characters like May, Sol and Ky but I would pretty much just play them the same, I wanted someone who'd drastically change how I play and Potempkin was perfect

Good video. Only not I have is that most of these combos that he is ending with heat knuckle, you can end in garuda instead for much better oki. The garuda buff is arguably even more important in this season than the giganter buff for this reason.
Well thats why I have the exact section near the beginning saying you can go garuda instead for less damage but better oki.
@@rooflemonger Fair point. Not really trying to correct you so much as emphasize an important part of his newfound strength to a naive viewer. I know you mentioned it, but I just wanted to stress how important it is that it's not really an option to do one or the other, you just always do garuda when you can unless you know for a fact the HK will kill.

A few things to note: You don't get real oki of any sort of heat knuckle routing. You also can't get real Garuda oki off of Garuda finisher. You can get c.S, though.
If the Potemkin Buster was easy to pull off like a simple Hadouken and with a little more reach forward and not diagonally, it would be so OP that almost nobody could stand a chance.
At 2:17, I can never connect the uppercut HS into a kick. It feels like Pot can't naturally conenct those two moves together, and even if I try to Hammerfall cancel, the opponent doesn't stay in the air long enough for the kick to connect at all. Any tips, please? Been trying to figure this out for months.
hey man, thanks a lot for the guide. i got a question tho, ive been practicing that ch combo with kbmf and i just cant seem to combo off 5k with it. i always seem to get 6k or bmf and i cant find a sweet spot timing for that k/p plink. i can semi-consistently do kbmf in neutral but i just cannot for the life of me figure out how to combo off it. any tips?
its hard, the way I do it is kick, then delay, then enter the motion. If you enter it as fast as possible the game will not accept the input.

i find it funny how at 2:16 you show a combo that you say is supposed to do more damage, yet actually does 3 less damage points than the previous, significantly easier combo

combo guides are short and to the point. I make videos in the way I like to watch videos, so thats why I make it this way.

I cant do the cancel hf into kara giganter on such a short distance, i can do it if im sliding at least mid range but cant do it short range, im not sure if im inputting the command too slow or theres a timing for it

I think DnF Duel is pretty good, although its a very savage game. I got quite a few dnf duel vids on the channel if you scroll down a bit
I can get a kara Buster and Garuda but for some reason I just can't get BMF to do it mid combo.
kara back megafist mid combo is the hardest of them all cause its another layer of timing on top of the execution. What I do is do whatever move, tiny delay, then do the kara.
I think the one thing I don't understand is how come the: "Hammerfall cancel into giganter kai" is not called the HECKK, a HammErfall Cancel Kara Kai
Wait there is more to Potemkin then just pot and heavenly pot buster?
God I hate how integral Kara back megafist and hammerfallbreak Giganterkai have become to potempkin's kit. the motions for those physically hurt my fingers to the point where I get to decide to be bad at the game, or just quit. Playing another character just isn't something I am willing to do.

@@---do2qd I use a fight sick. The act of pressing the buttons and the stick motion is causing pain over time due to the complexity of the inputs
Season 2 pot kara back megafist matters less because you can just do giganter kai combos for the same/more damage than the old RC routes that used it. Its still a thing but you don't have to rely on it as much

Potemkin is probably the most mechanically difficult character in strive which is a shame honestly. Usually grapplers are a fair bit simpler.

Whilst i love the potempkin guide, I'm sad you fell off with goldlewis! You were all about him when he was revealed and now somehow Sajam is the goldlewis guy haha what happened to "I'm determined to be the best goldlewis, even if he sucks!"?
I still like Goldlewis, who said I didn't? However I always found myself frustrated with Goldlewis's complete lack of defense, even Potemkin has much better options. Things are a bit better now though. I still consider Goldlewis one of my characters

Just delete pot and save your self some trouble ..The character just get snowed balled way too easy ..If the developers had half a brain ,they would give him a 3f button .
