My game "Ready or Not" has been stuck doing an update and wouldn't stop downloading, and I couldn't do a lot of the normal troubleshooting techniques, like uninstalling the game because steam can't or just won't uninstall the game until the download is complete... which was the issue. So, after several restarts and many angry toddler tears later, switching the proxy off helped "un-stuck" whatever was wrong with it pretty much instantly. The game being stuck like this was causing other games to crash due to the extra work load I guess, and I couldn't stop it from "downloading" either, so this fix also allowed me to pull Ready or Not from the download queue in the list *FINALLY* after days of being stuck twiddling my thumbs with this issue and no-where to turn to. Everything I Googled was almost condescending in their descriptions like I was asking a boomer to pull the card from the reader; like "To clear the download cache, navigate your steam account and clear the cache." like BRUH I KNOW HOW TO DO THAT IT WON'T FREAKING CLEAR WHY WON'T IT GO AWAY!?!?! Anyways, I could do more than kiss you dude, I was so lost on what to do. Vid was a big help!

I too would like a dumbed down explanation of this. This was the issue I was having just now. I turned it back on, but it seems to be related to a VPN of some kind? I have a third party VPN so is it cool to just leave this off?

I just saw some people recommending clearing the download cache to solve the problem. Did it and had to download all of the game again from scratch (50GB for those wondering). Do it as a last result if nothing is working.
Thanks for this, for some reason my Proxy settings were the issue, but I had Nord disabled at the time so I have no clue how it happened in the first place.
My computer regularly downloads at like 2 mbps I tried like 10 fixes, nothing worked but then I waited a bit more after restarting steam and it started downloading at 200mbps after 20 minutes of nothing
preloading is literally completely pointless because this always happens once the game is already released, forcing me to delete all the download progress
If anyone struggling with installation being stuck at 0 bits and disk usage at 100% u can try deleting download cache in steam settings in download tab
what worked for me is going to the game that wont download on steam go to download where u see the mbps, then on the top rt corner u see a gear click it and it should take u to the download tab if not click the download tap scroll till u see clear cache good luck my friends :)

Just got my computer back from the repair shop after a processor failure. Everything seems all set, now nothing on Steam will download. I briefly had it working by changing download regions but it would just taper off to nothing, then default to the "connection timeout" and attempt to restart the download again. I cannot download any of the games I own and have tried everything these helpful videos have suggested I do.
I just got my seagate 2 tb external hard drive. Brand new. USB 3.0 compatible. I'm having trouble installing ets2 and I tried every solution. Nothing works

I believe that window is just to erase download cache, which you can find it by "(top left) Steam->Settings->Downloads->Clear Cache Though this did not work for me it might for you. Still cant download anything, I've tried almost everything here on yt. Let me know if any of you find how to fix your problem

I have a very weird problem happened to my steam acc. the game that I downloaded in steam on my pc shows that it's download is qued, meanwhile when I used a different steam account to login to the steam on the same device the game appears to be playable and not in the state of needing any updates or whatsoever. I am at my dead end since this problem is very uncommon. can anyone give any insight of what should I do, it'll be a waste that I have to start a new steam account. most of my gameplay progress will go down the drain 😔
Sadly this didn't fix the issue for me :'( . I tried everything i found on the internet, but none of it worked. I have 2.5 Gbps download speed (2.2 Gbps in speedtest), and steam is stuck to download a couple % of a game at 60+ MBps, then drop to 0 for a minute, starts dowloading again but this time drops to 15 MBps, then drop to 5 Mbps, then 0, then resume at 5, then 0, then drops at 1 MBps, then 0 and so on. It never goes higher than 5 MBps past a couple minutes and keep stopping and resuming.
@@Pirkko-cp4sm If it can help, i fixed the issue, randomly, by setting my download region to Belgium, weird enought, it seems to work fine ever since xD
in case you still have this problem: just go steam settings-->downloads-->empty download cache the same window as in the video showed up, the downloads also startet but then i got the same error messege again (disk writing error) i had to run steam with admin rights, now it works
