IHYD is my favorite EDH show ;) Love the people, love the honest talks, jokes, shenanigans. Back in a day it was a bit about famous people like Professor, Kyle Hill, Post Malone, Olivia and so on, but everything changed and now players in IHYD are just great friends and a one big family ;)
it works for both, just uses the confusing old language. Only thing that doesn't work is something like a replacement effect, a target (for clone cards that enter as X), or counters and whatnot
I think Blazing Shoal's alternative casting cost includes the red mana. You declare the value for X before paying for the spell, so it's entirely free, right? It doesn't reduce the cost, it just gives it another casting cost
Well I think I need to make a slicer deck now. That looked like a lot of fun and my mono red Imodane deck is slacking. Good games guys. Enjoyed it a lot.
i don't understand why he wasn't casting slicer for it alt cost from the command zone , he swings with car slicer with haste and then it just turns into the normal slicer , im i missing something??
For Slicer, I always thought the idea was to cast him for him 3-Mana "More Than Meets The Eye" ability. This allows you to save 2 mana on the initial cast, and the 2nd cast of your commander would be the normal 5 mana using the "More Than Meets The Eye" ability. I believe you do still have to pay commander tax while casting the alternate cost.
Just an observation, but casting the Slicer from the graveyard with Underworld Breach shouldn't have happened. The Slicerr would have been exiled when destroyed due to the Stone of Erech. But a fun game!
Nice game guys! So much politics but fair and friendly! I think escape from underworld breach doesn't work with the shoals that way though. Since escape and the shoal ability are both alternate casting costs you should have to pay mana for the shoal to escape it since you can only use one alternate cost. Same as overload + mizzix's mastery, you can't overload with that since you are already paying zero as an alternative cost.
I just really don't like Splicer in EDH. I mean, I get it, it speeds up the games alot, but whenever it hits the field, it warps the game into people playing around it, and doesn't leave a lot of other plays to happen
That definitely was a game with slicer in it :) Certainly was a game where Slicer existed, you can tell by how the game went. Jokes aside, great vid as always, saw some fun cards that you don't see often, and a korlessa that I've never seen built yet!

Your intuition is correct; Blazing Shoal's controller can only exile one card to pay the alternative cost for the spell, and it also means that exiling a card exempts you from needing to pay any mana.
I honestly don't understand what's fun about piloting the slicer deck. You tap out completely all the time and other people get to play your card more than you. Where's the fun? Your opponents dying fast or something? Seems like a bad deal to travel to a friends' house to play such a warped game of commander
Is it just me or did they play Double Strike incorrectly this whole game? They "chump blocked" Slicer but their creatures would have died to the First Strike hit, then the Double Strike still would go thru, no?
magic is a weird ass game. It actually does work like how it plays in the show, the creature was still "blocked" damage wont do through unless the creature has trample
They did it right. Both double strike hits will hit the blocker, and if the blocker dies in the first strike phase of combat the remaining hit never occurs. Double strike doesn’t naturally get pseudo trample, the only way that it will hit face is if you give it trample through some other method.

Equipped Slicer with Sword of Hearth and Home turn 3.
Had 11 lands on turn 4.

Yeah, "commander tax" applies whenever you cast your commander from the command zone. It doesn't matter how you do it.

Slicer shouldn't have hit the graveyard because of stone of erech, so you wouldn't be able to cast it with underworld breach..
