Ymir was in that pure titans form for 60years not centuries. basicly (as you have already seen) Ymir and other people where thrown off a wall and turned into Pure Titans. pure titans then hunt humans only to eat because of the drive to return back to their human form. but the only way for them to turn back into a human is to eat a Titan Shifter (like Eren or Reiners friend that was eaten) this will turn them back into a human with amnesia and also.give them the power of the titan shifter they ate. if Eren eats Bertoldt for example. Eren will gain the colossus titan ls power.
The first part of season 3 has such weird pacing, imo. It ofc answers a lot of questions, while at the same tome creates more of them. So, it is very important to the overall plot, but some parts of it almost feels a little "filler"-like and uninspired. I can't put my finger on it, but it seems to me that the author decided that this part of the story needed more padding, so it is extra drawn-out.
