I like how there is a clear difference between robotnik and eggman. it makes sense, given how eggman was certainly changed by his burning hatred of sonic. maybe this experience would cause even more of a timeline split for classic, if say, robotnik decided to find other ways to persue that amusement park that wouldn't spark conflict with sonic. so many possibilities :)
@@Garrulous64 Yeah i think i see what you mean, in the begining Eggman just wanted to build his own place, but the fact that in doing so would of caused a TON of little animals and an entire island being enslaved would just be bad, so Sonic stopped him, Then Robotnick just set himself bigger goals, then bigger, and bigger, until he wanted to conquer the ENTIRE world, but at the same time his grudge grew, and grew But at the same time, i think he still somewhat feels sympathy, i feel like if he finaly got rid of Sonic, he'd feel atleast a little sad, apparently in SA2, if you use the Japanese voices: Eggman actualy sounds a bit sad when he blasts Sonic off into space
coincidentally the original concept art for robotnik was during an art contest for a new protagonist for an entirely new game of sega, so he was originally drawn to be good! (i hope thats right atleast)

Seriously, this guy needs to be hired! Not only could he help fix up the old games (making the canon stories better and making Sega more money as fans will have updated versions of the games with better stories and game play) but with these rewrites, he has excellent sequel material for at least one new game, if not more. At least hire him to help with the movies so he can fix up the video game stories for the bug screen!
Robotnik is so much more interesting in this rewrite. He's Eggman BEFORE he became Eggman. Sure his means are cruel, but he isn't an angry or spiteful person. I hope that in later chapters Robotnik begins to understand what Eggman means and becomes the villain, while Eggman develops into a better person, like a role reversal. It's a classic but an ideal trope for this type of story.
to be honest, I hope that all of this just causes a paradox level thing and at the end of this the classic timeline and Modern timelines branch off. Just so Robotnik doesn't turn into a villain.

It occasionally breaks the immersion, but you gotta have something to remind you that this isn't a canon Sonic product, no? In any case, it does little to dampen my opinion on this rewritten stuff. Personally, instead of the Giant Motobug from Chaos, I believe the Giant Turtle Badnik from the first stage of Triple Trouble would be a better fit for the environment. Still, I'm LOVING where this is headed. I love the direction you decided to take Robotnik and Eggman, really great stuff!

And if that happens, then that means we'll get a new timeline with Classic Sonic & Robotnik where Robotnik would probably find a different way to go about building Robotnik Land. Also, Classic Sonic is his Sonic 1 counter part or between CD and 2? Since he never got to Chemical Plant it seems like it's one of those options. Which is interesting since this means he'll have no idea who Tails is since he hasn't even met him yet.
Great continuation! However, I would like to offer a suggestion. I get the point that you want to make with Eggman being a more cynical, 'eviler' Robotnik, but I believe that in canon Robotnik should be more centered on robotic domination, since it was his original motivation on the classic games, while Eggman is the more whimsically psychotic, since after so many defeats, he has lost his original focus of a mechanical society and turned into a mentally unstable, world-conquering megalomaniac who just wants to make a theme park. That being said... I really like the way the story is playing out! Eggman is being attacked by all fronts here, no punches pulled, and he feels (rightfully?) misunderstood, even by his past self. The only other thing I would change would be that Tails, Orbot and Cubot didn't have their memories of Eggman leaving them there, that way there's more tension on whether Eggman actually wants to help or not. With the way the plot is advancing, it becomes evident that Eggman can and will betray the heroes for his own gain, not listening to any of their needs. Besides that, a great work as always! I'm at the edge of my seat waiting for the next part... Keep up the good stuff!
I honestly adore these. Most of your rewrites are pretty good but this one is by far my favorite. I'm a writer too (well i like to think of myself as such) and the way you use these characters is just on point. It reaches this level of near hyperrealism where they feel a little too true to themselves to be official. This story has strong themes that don't take away from how silly the premise is, it aligns with the original, and it doesn't try to be out of character with what you'd expect from the 10's Pontaff style of writing. Like sure it has its occasional hiccups but I can't wait for the next part. It's honestly refreshing to see a take on a Sonic story that doesn't just try to ape what Adventure did right, and yours is just one highlight after another. I'd feel jealous if I were Pontaff, but then, being Pontaff means you don't really care about Sonic besides stale memes...
The only thing I want to point out is that Tails has never canonically been Tails the Fox. One of the few characters with a first and last name, his full name is Miles “Tails” Prower. That tiny nitpick aside, though, I really like the way this is going. The differences between Robotnik and Eggman apparent in their conversations really show how much he let his obsession with defeating Sonic control him. Also: Eggman pays his robots?
Hey Garrulous64, this is a really good rewrite! I think it’s really cool someone’s going back and rewriting these game. Although, if I could ask one thing, and this is more of a problem with the original game story, but how does the sonics not run into their other past selves? (Example: Super Sonic (Sonic Adventure) was nowhere to be seen when they fight perfect chaos.)
My personal explanation is that the timeline is being destroyed. Different parts of it have already been removed, and the characters in the story are some of the few that are still surviving

I can see why the Sonics get along so well. I mean, yes, Classic is a younger version of Sonic himself, but Sonic has had a lot of time to learn to be an older brother of sorts when he met Tails. I really like your Sonic Rewritten story. It might be interesting if Sonic and Eggman have more in common then just their birthday. In a old comic called Sonic The Comic, Sonic and Eggman met before and became friends and also how Sonic got his blue color. There are some fanfics that Eggman raised Sonic even giving him his name. But will leave that up to you. During the journey, Classic Eggman talked to classic sonic about the past and how close friends they were. Tails, Orbot and Cubot will be surprised and modern Eggman will deny it all. Tails will ask Sonic if it's true. Sonic will try to deny it only to not remember anything except an explosion a promise to keep something safe and That's it. What happens next is up to you. It's your idea if you want to do this or not. Sill I like your story and can't wait to see what happens next.

I think so... (Sees Classic) Huh? Classic: (Looks inquisitively at Tails) Sonic: Younger me, meet your future brother and best friend for life, Tails. Classic: (Smiling and exchanges a fist bump with Tails) Tails: Heh... two Sonics. I guess you'll be meeting younger me sooner or later.
I really love these Sonic rewritings. You are a great storyteller and your better than Sega at writing stories obviously. I'd love to see what you might do with other Sonic games. It'd be awesome to see what your take of Sonic unleashed would be.
It is interesting to see an arch-enemy dynamic explored. Villains like Eggman literally exist to challenge a hero like Sonic. Given Eggman's entire life revolves around fighting Sonic, I often picture him as growing consumed by his obsession to the point where he's not certain what he would actually do if he were to actually defeat Sonic.
Eggman’s way of being now compared to his past self makes me think... Before, he just wanted to make a park, but Sonic didn’t approve of that without even attempting to listen closely at Robotnic’s intentions. This repeated act, alongside the many insults, must have broken poor Eggman into the state of going mad, forgetting his goal to just make an amusement park and instead destroy sonic, and in conjunction, the hedgehog’s palls, and take over the world. Classic Era Robotnic wasn’t a villain, he was just miss understood... Makes you really question who the real villain really is...

Hey, Garrulous64. A few days ago, I had an idea for a Sonic Forces rewrite. The story starts at the end of Generations. Classic Eggman has escaped from limbo, while Eggman did not. This means that Lost World (and Boom if you wanted to rewrite that as well) would happen without everyone's favorite Egghead. At the start, Sonic is seen parkouring all over angel island until he gets a distress signal from Tails, saying an unidentified threat has appeared. Sonic runs to the mainland, and the player can see Tails fighting off a ...badnik? This doesn't make sense. "Sonic!" Tails exclaims as he sees his best friend. "Don't worry Tails, I'll clean 'em up real quick!" Before tails can say something back, Sonic destroys all the badniks, only for them to reform seconds later. "What!?" Sonic exclaims as he is rushed by a badnik. Luckily, Tails saves him. "That's what i've been trying to tell you, they are unstoppable!" Suddenly, you can hear a (familiar to us) tune shouting "E! G! G! M! A! N!", And then Phantom Eggman appears. That's all I got for now. Great Video!
In my opinion, rather than pinpoint a specific year, the interaction between Eggman and Robotnik relating to when Sonic starts quipping could've been like Robotnik: So, when does he start spouting one liners? Eggman: What did your most recent battle consist of? Robotnik: He _just_ destroyed my Death Egg...Again. Eggman: *Get those ear plugs **_now._*
So is Classic Tails not going to appear in this? Sonic says that Classic hasn't gone here yet even though he has the spindash which was introduced in sonic 2, though canonically it was first used in Sonic CD so would that mean we see Classic Amy? I like the diea of Robotnik just finding sonnic a bit of a nuisance. Like of course sonic would spoil hs plans as they have opinions that clash. Sonic wants all the animals free in nature and eggman wanted to build his empire-in turn using the anima;'s life force energy. So of course they'd but heads. But as time went on Eggman cared less about himself and his aspirations and just became bitter about sonic, hence why the nickname doesn't bother him anymore because 'i don't care, I only want to defete sonic. one track minded and madness.
Yah know.....Robotnik just wanting to build his amusement park on Green Hill...... The entirety of the shit that happens in Canon is Sonic's fault technically.... isn't it.
Yes and no... you don't just build an amusement part by enslaving the people who would be your costumers... hence Sonic's intervention. It's still very much on Eggman's hands for not considering Sonic's POV.

I really like your Sonic Rewritten story. It might be interesting if Sonic and Eggman have more in common then just their birthday. In a old comic called Sonic The Comic, Sonic and Eggman met before and became friends and also how Sonic got his blue color. There are some fanfics that Eggman raised Sonic even giving him his name. But will leave that up to you. During the journey, Classic Eggman talked to classic sonic about the past and how close friends they were. Tails, Orbot and Cubot will be surprised and modern Eggman will deny it all. Tails will ask Sonic if it's true. Sonic will try to deny it only to not remember anything except an explosion a promise to keep something safe and That's it. What happens next is up to you. It's your idea if you want to do this or not. Sill I like your story and can't wait to see what happens next.

@@Garrulous64 This has been on my mind for a few days, but have you ever thought of rewriting the game Shadow The Hedgehog? I really think you could pull it off and give Shadow's game a story that (dare I say) MAKES SENSE.
I've considered it, but the only idea I have wouldn't change the story much.

Since you focused on Eggman speaking to Orbot and Cubot, I have a quick bit of dialogue for the Sonics when they are helping Tails.
Sonic: Whoa, Tails, you alright there, little buddy?
Tails: I... I think so... (Sees Classic) Huh?
Classic: (Looks inquisitively at Tails)
Sonic: Younger me, meet your future brother and best friend for life, Tails.
Classic: (Smiling and exchanges a fist bump with Tails)
Tails: Heh... two Sonics. I guess you'll be meeting younger me sooner or later.

I really love these Sonic rewritings. You are a great storyteller and your better than Sega at writing stories obviously. I'd love to see what you might do with other Sonic games. It'd be awesome to see what your take of Sonic unleashed would be.
If these changed gameplay then I'd have mechanic like in Mania Plus where you can switch on the fly.

It is interesting to see an arch-enemy dynamic explored. Villains like Eggman literally exist to challenge a hero like Sonic. Given Eggman's entire life revolves around fighting Sonic, I often picture him as growing consumed by his obsession to the point where he's not certain what he would actually do if he were to actually defeat Sonic.
I can imagine this being an actual Sega game if you worked there
Eggman’s way of being now compared to his past self makes me think...
Before, he just wanted to make a park, but Sonic didn’t approve of that without even attempting to listen closely at Robotnic’s intentions.
This repeated act, alongside the many insults, must have broken poor Eggman into the state of going mad, forgetting his goal to just make an amusement park and instead destroy sonic, and in conjunction, the hedgehog’s palls, and take over the world.
Classic Era Robotnic wasn’t a villain, he was just miss understood...
Makes you really question who the real villain really is...

this makes more since than it has any right to...btw if the dynamic stays as is and Robotnik and Eggman continue their split ideology which would most likely lead to one siding with Sonic and the other still being revenge driven please put in a scene where the nicer Robotnik saves the two Sonics and says a line like "I'm never going to become such a rotten egg" that's toocheesey and heroic to pass up

Hey, Garrulous64. A few days ago, I had an idea for a Sonic Forces rewrite. The story starts at the end of Generations. Classic Eggman has escaped from limbo, while Eggman did not. This means that Lost World (and Boom if you wanted to rewrite that as well) would happen without everyone's favorite Egghead. At the start, Sonic is seen parkouring all over angel island until he gets a distress signal from Tails, saying an unidentified threat has appeared. Sonic runs to the mainland, and the player can see Tails fighting off a ...badnik? This doesn't make sense. "Sonic!" Tails exclaims as he sees his best friend. "Don't worry Tails, I'll clean 'em up real quick!" Before tails can say something back, Sonic destroys all the badniks, only for them to reform seconds later. "What!?" Sonic exclaims as he is rushed by a badnik. Luckily, Tails saves him. "That's what i've been trying to tell you, they are unstoppable!" Suddenly, you can hear a (familiar to us) tune shouting "E! G! G! M! A! N!", And then Phantom Eggman appears. That's all I got for now. Great Video!
In my opinion, rather than pinpoint a specific year, the interaction between Eggman and Robotnik relating to when Sonic starts quipping could've been like
Robotnik: So, when does he start spouting one liners?
Eggman: What did your most recent battle consist of?
Robotnik: He _just_ destroyed my Death Egg...Again.
Eggman: *Get those ear plugs **_now._*

So is Classic Tails not going to appear in this? Sonic says that Classic hasn't gone here yet even though he has the spindash which was introduced in sonic 2, though canonically it was first used in Sonic CD so would that mean we see Classic Amy? What about the Classic Metal fight?

I like the diea of Robotnik just finding sonnic a bit of a nuisance. Like of course sonic would spoil hs plans as they have opinions that clash. Sonic wants all the animals free in nature and eggman wanted to build his empire-in turn using the anima;'s life force energy. So of course they'd but heads. But as time went on Eggman cared less about himself and his aspirations and just became bitter about sonic, hence why the nickname doesn't bother him anymore because 'i don't care, I only want to defete sonic. one track minded and madness.

Yes and no... you don't just build an amusement part by enslaving the people who would be your costumers... hence Sonic's intervention. It's still very much on Eggman's hands for not considering Sonic's POV.
I still like Generations' story, but it really deserved something big like this for Sonic's 20th anniversary.
