If you put 1.5M in one briefcase, I’d imagine you should have a location device inside, lock on the outside, and your hand holding the case at all times. This just seems so weird if someone would truly leave millions unattended
to anyone wondering what makes up 1.5 mill in sports cards, most of it was vintage 1940s-1960s baseball of hall of famer, high grade, low pop. The grail in that lot was multiple copies of 1952 Mickey Mantle (he is like the michael jordan of baseball terms of collectability) starting at 30k-100k, and jackie robinson (black man who broke the baseball color barrier during jim crow laws era). The vintage baseball card "market" is highly liquid because of extreme rarity and history of the game, hence the high values.
@@ownaronulteron3099 you could tell. As soon as he went around the table opposite of the thief to get the employees attention the other guy moved in immediately.
Just toss a tracker in the case. If it is a case with the foam, carve out a little foam and place an air tag or another tracker in there so that after the first few minutes (hours if you're lucky) it's gone it can be tracked. If it is a case where they took out the foam to completely flood the case with slabs maybe take a few out to put some sort of tracker in there. Removing a few slabs would be worth having the case be trackable.
So... 1) The card owners were dumb enough to leave that much value unattended? 2) And the thieves were dumb enough to perform their criminal act when they most certainly knew there were cameras recording them (given that their plan was so thoughtful, we should assume they were also thoughtful enough to consider that there were cameras recording them). 3) And I'm supposed to believe that the card owners and alleged thieves were not working together to create the illusion of theft so that they could capitalize on an insurance claim? Maybe I'm wrong, but it's hard for me to believe that vendors would be so careless with ANYWHERE NEAR that amount of value, and that thieves as thoughtful as these would be so stupid as to attempt to pull of a heist - especially one of this magnitude - while knowing full well that they were being recorded. Another possible explanation - besides just believing in the appearance and official story - is that their case was stolen from them, but didn't contain what they are claiming it did, and they are making a case out of it in order to capitalize on an insurance claim. It's also possible that the "thieves" were accomplices who were supposed to, and did, take a lower value case in case they were caught (so that they wouldn't get in as much trouble). This way there would be evidence for the insurance claim, and their buddies wouldn't have to risk as much if they failed and were caught.
Apple airtag with distance alert and lock combo on the case makes the case trackable long enough for the police to find. Also if this was my property at a convention it would be in a messenger bag on my back or shoulder 100% of the time if it was worth that much.
One of the Dallas card shop owners put out a $1000 reward for info leading to info that was convincing enough to get someone arrested in this and he posted that he paid out the $1000. So more info to come.
Bro why would you not be in close proximity to a case that has 1.5 mill worth of cards in it. There is literally no one even close by to that case that’s crazy. Hope they catch the guy people have no respect for people things that happened over the weekend at a card show here in the Bay Area dude got his binder full of singles swooped of his table
I am a tradeshow exhibitor. Why the heck would you leave a suitcase with $1.5 mil in cards loose on the floor. Something seems suspect about this theft.
It feels like an inside job, somebody inside the camp of the card owners tipped off somebody. Owner needs to watch out for his inner circle. I hope the perps get caught.
I come from the DTA mentality. Don't Trust Anyone. Minus the wifey, I don't trust anyone. I saw some of those cards on their social posts when it happened Sunday night. They definitely had a ton of desirable sports cards. Really unfortunate, as someone that lives in the DFW area ... I hate to see someone do this crap.
If it's high end sports cards then usually those are number cards? Or signature/auto cards? Even if they crack from a slab it might be easy to tell or track?
These people absolutely ruin collecting Pokemon cards nowadays. Not just them, but almost everyone is out to finesse, scalp, and take advantage of people. One of the major reasons I’ve been feeling like taking a break from collecting. Scammers and selfish people overcharging for cards…. It’s terrible. Some of the worst people ever involved with cards now…. They operate just like drug dealers only their product is cards.
If I had 1.5 million in a pelican case I'd have chained to something large and I would situate my tables so someone couldn't get in my protected area where I keep the cards without moving a table or going up or under them. 1.5 million? heck, I would have a safe that needs a forklift to move and I'd take it to every convention. If you have 1.5 million of merchandise I'd sell a few thousand dollars and buy the safe, a Van to carry it to conventions, and when I got to the convention I'd rent a forklift to set it where I wanted it and to put it back in my van when the convention is over. We are talking about 1.5 million, someone with that much product that fits in a pelican case could afford that.
Anytime I take cards out to a show I have a shoulder strap bag I keep everything in.. its right on my chest the whole time and it’s not coming off till I’m in my car idc if I have $5 in cards or $10k.. Pokemon is like dealing with junkies.. everyone is trying to make or take a buck off you by any means necessary
Yeah it could be, even if they have insurance…the insurance will fight this tooth and nail. Opossum is right, if you have something of that much value out in the open like that, and you know how easy it is for another person to just walk off with it, you should have that thing taped to your grapes.

what i think more card stores need to realize is that with the recent boom in collectibles some of them have stock worth millions that is impossible to trace, is easy to sell, is easy to carry in mass, and they have less security then a donut shop (police sometimes go their after all). this makes them a prime target for thieves and im not talking about shop lifters but real big time thieves like you would see at jewelry stores. card stores with valuable stock need to start investing more into their security. im surprised we dont see more armed robberies at these places tbh. like im in no way blaming the store owners for this theft. however i will say that a little extra security goes a long way. like for example if your at an event like this then dont have any cards worth more than 10 bucks in any binders, have the binders tied to the tables with a cord sorta like tech stores do, dont let anybody look through a binder without somebody watching them (best to have somebody whose entire job is to just watch the customers so they dont get distracted tbh), and have all your expensive stuff behind a locked case and never leave it unattended. and if your at your local store then have a fire arm behind the counter or something and depending on the value of your stock you may want to ensure you have at least two people at the shop at all times.
This kind of reminds me of a theft incident at a coin show (2022 ANA World Fair of Money) where a dealer had a whole case stolen. I forget if it was during set up and breakdown but the case had valueable coins and rolex watches in it. While the amount lost was in the tens of thousands compared to the milli8on plus here, the message is the same.
