    Thank you Melanie, this is very formative because I have been wondering why pregnant women in the uk here are not allow to eat Liver, whereas in my country of origin pregnant women ate it and was fine. Thank you. Cod liver oil contains Vitamin A too which I am taking, although not pregnant, but looking to.

    • @NourishwithMelanie
      @NourishwithMelanie  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jenny, as mentioned in this video there are concerns around eating liver during pregnancy as it is incredibly rich in vitamins which could mean you are receiving too much of some.
      If you choose to eat liver (whether that be chicken or beef) I suggest sticking to these recommendations:
      1. Ensure that it is kept hygienically in the fridge, and cooked to over 75 degrees Celsius, or 170 degrees Fahrenheit, and eaten hot
      2. Limit your intake to 75 grams, or 2.5 ounces, per week
      3. Request your doctor to check your vitamin A levels, and
      4. Avoid pate until you’ve given birth.
      Hope that helps!

    Hi! Thanks for your video! I ate about 150g chickenliver one meal during week 4 in my pregnancy and now Im so so so worried because of the severe birthdefects caused by to much a-vitamin. I have read in a study that there is no reported case of birth defects in humans caused by only eating natural a-vitamin due to foods (like liver) They can only be linked to synthetic vitamins. Is that true? And that we have the rekommendations not to expose ourselfs to any unnecessary risks.
    Thanks in advance!

    • @NourishwithMelanie
      @NourishwithMelanie  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! I can understand your concern! If the liver was only consumed on that occasion, the risk is low. It seems that detrimental outcomes have been linked to excessive vitamin A supplementation, however safe vitamin A levels can be surpassed through diet as well. Hence why it is recommended to limit your liver intake - to be safe :)

      I don’t see any studies that have been done with vitamin A from actual liver. Taking a supplement is totally different than eating a whole food. Eating liver from grass fed, pasture raised animals that you cook yourself is probably one of the best foods you can eat during pregnancy, especially if you have low hemoglobin (low iron).
