      Thanks for watching! Yes, I loved that 2001 F-150 and would probably still have it if it weren't for the body rusting. A farmer bought it and it's living it's remaining life as a work truck in rural Vermont.

    I traded up from a 06 F-150 to an 18-huge technology jump that made towing so much easier. Mine is a Platinum 4x2, V8, 10-speed, 36 gal tank, 3.55 locking rear end. No need for a 4x4 in Florida, and the locking rear end easily got me out of some mudholes. I have a 1750 lb payload which is adequate for my purposes, but I would have liked the longer bed. I pull a 27’ FC FB that weighs 6400 lbs loaded for travel. We spent the summer in CO, UT, and WY mountains with no issues going up and down the passes, even 11,000 ft ones. I use the Pro Trailer Backup Assist mostly for one thing-long straight backups-it basically does that hands-free. Backing into campsites, I prefer having my hands on the wheel as you. Many of our FL rallies are around 150 miles away, so having the 36 gal tank means I don’t have to look for gas until I get home. I have the big mirrors too, won't buy another truck without them now.👍🏻

      Thanks so much for watching! It sounds like you have a great rig. It's funny - on the internet soo many people will say that 23' is about max for an F-150. Yet, when you get out in the real world, people everywhere are safely towing 28' and down trailers with an F-150. We have a friend that pulls her Pottery Barn with an F-150. As you prove, an F-150 is fully capable.

    Great, candid video. We pull our 25 FBT with a 2021 F-150 with Ecoboost. Love it!. We also have the ProTrailer Backup Assist using the inertial sensor on the trailer, and I wouldn't want to be without it. You didn't mention tires. What are you running now on your truck?

    • @LuvSubbin
      @LuvSubbin  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching! We love our V-8 but that Ecoboost is a sweet engine. Funny you mention tires. We filmed a clip on our tires for this video but it didn't make the final cut. We replaced our OEM Goodyear Wranglers at about 65,000 miles (my logbook is not readily available for an exact mileage). We again choose Goodyear Wranglers for two reasons. First, whether on our truck or trailer, we have had flawless performance from Goodyear for over 21 years. Why change? Secondly, the Airstream Club offers a 15% discount on both Goodyear and Michelin. Safe travels.

    Thank you for the review. We have an F150 Hybrid and so far it has been great. It is nice to know that Ford produces a quality vehicle.
    One question - we struggled to find information on setting up the brake controller. Have you or would you please provide a video on brake setup and on what brake things to pay attention to when towing.
    Thanks again!

    • @LuvSubbin
      @LuvSubbin  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching! That's a great idea for a video and we will add that to our production list. Our gain is currently set at 5.5 which seems "middle of the road". Briefly, we wait until we are on a dirt road. and hit the emergency override on the controller whilst traveling slowly. It's a "feel" thing but I'm looking for the trailer to provide just the right amount of tug. Not too abrupt but hard enough to feel.

    We took delivery of our 2018 F150 XLT FX4 in October of 2017. First time we have ordered our vehicle rather that buy used. Ours is a super cab with an 8 ft bed because I wanted to be able to haul lumber without it sticking out. We got the FX4 package as I knew that even though it is too long to take places I took my mid sized Dodge I would still be off road at times. The locking rear end that comes with that package has saved us a couple of times. We got the max tow package so it came with that trailer back up controller that I've never used. We have the EcoBoost engine. I have never experienced the problem you mentioned with starting, even in hot Utah summers. Our Airstream is a Basecamp 20X so slightly less weight than yours and only towed for one season. We have gone over a few passes here in the west and have pulled them all fine. One is Bald Mountain Pass in Utah that Wikipedia claims is over 10,000 ft high. We picked it up in New Jersey and towed it home to Utah in March of this past year. We had a shell on it at the time. There were some problems with the brand shell we had so we replaced it with a hard tonneau cover. My MPG went up by about two miles per gallon with just the truck and towing about one mile per gallon. I never realized how heavy our particular shell was. Each person has some unique things that fit their needs better yet we can all learn from each other's choices, though my wife really likes the Electric Blue better than Blue Jeans.

    • @LuvSubbin
      @LuvSubbin  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching! It looks like you have a great truck that is perfectly suited to your needs. The fact that you do not have the starting problem is leading me to believe that the issue is unique to the V-8. Safe travels.

    Great video. I am new to towing and plan to upgrade to a truck. Currently I am towing my Micro Minnie 22’ with my Ford Explorer. It does fine but I am right at max towing capacity and I don’t like not having some headroom. Your video has been very helpful. I keep going back and forth between the Ecoboost or a V8. I am leaning towards the V8. Thanks,

      @LuvSubbin  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching! Both the V-8 and Ecoboost are great engines. I do remember watching a video on TH-cam done by a Ford dealership. They went back to the Service Bay and asked the 12 mechanics there "Cost no option, what engine would you want in your F-150?". Ten of the twelve chose the V-8. I was already sold on the V-8 but I found that interesting...

    Great review! My daughter has a 2020 XLT and her head rest moves to adjust. All the ford trucks I've had all have adjustable head rests. Looking at the video the drivers head rest is all the way forward. If you just pull the head rest towards the stearing wheel and let go it should go all the way back.

    • @LuvSubbin
      @LuvSubbin  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks guys! We've done that. The problem is because C is short, she likes to pull the seat into a near vertical position. Most people have somewhat of a slight recline in the angle of the seatback. She only needs that when she drives (which isn't often) so we'll live with it. Safe travels and have fun with that sweet new rig.

    Nice review. We have the EcoBoost in our F150. I can’t believe the power it has. Mountains in South Dakota, West Virginia, the Carolinas have been no problem. We do have that “geezer step” on ours, and it does help with bed access. Take care!

      Thanks guys! Yes, the Ecoboost is awesome and we test drove a few. As you say, the power is incredible. You may have the "geezer step" but I guess we have the "geezer engine" as I just couldn't stray from a V-8...

    We have an F150. Crew cab same color with the 5.0. We also have the same starting issue. I originally thought we had a bad battery from the factory. But, it always starts. We have the 30 gallon fuel tank. I thought it was over kill until I towed with it. When not towing we have about 600 + miles. When towing about 350. So, I’m glad we got the bigger tank. We have no complaints with the 5.0 for towing. Even if, on paper the 3.5 is better for towing. The way it gets there with turbos wasn’t for me. Plus, the 5.0 just sounds like a truck.LOL

      Thanks for watching! Your comment is very timely as this week's video our start problem nearly strands us. After 1 hour it still wouldn't start. We finally got a jump. Our video includes some of the stuff we did to mitigate the problem. We still love our truck and the 5.0. Like you say, it sounds like a truck. Safe travels.

    Great review.
    Also from Vermont and also have a Blue Jeans super cab 4x4. Though it’s a 2.7 EB and a 2017.
    Do you change oil while on the road? Have you had any oil usage issues with the 5.0 as I’ve read it seems to be common on the 18+.
    We tow a 2022 20FB Bambi and on our Vermont to Florida and back trips, I get 15-15.5 MPG.
    Always enjoy your videos.

      @LuvSubbin  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for watching fellow Vermonters! When I looked at the data for this video, I felt crappy how I fell off the wagon with the oil change frequency as we went on our long trips. I may need to get some oil changes on the road. I add a quart of oil about every 3,000 miles. Now that I am working on a fresh oil change, I will track specifically the mileage between oil addition and report. Safe travels.

    Had a truck that sometimes would exabit the same symptoms as your hard start. It turned out to be the exhaust overheating the starter. When the windings get hot, it takes more cranking amps to turn it over. I installed a heat shield, problem went away. Hope this helps🤞

    Hey guys, saw you on Charlie Grace's live, just subbed. We have a 2018 Ford F-150 XLT Sport Supercab with 85,000, about 50,000 of them towing miles. We average about the same mpg when towing, unless we're in the mountains of course. She's doing well so far. Love your logbook! Love the brake system, it's a must! We used our backup assist knob when we started out but haven't used it in years. Our newest problem is the door locks are not working with the key code anymore. We love our truck, and hoping to get at least one more year with it. Take care, glad we met online tonight!

    • @LuvSubbin
      @LuvSubbin  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Thanks for watching! The 3.5 Ecoboost is a wonderful engine. When we look around AIrstream rallies, I would say that the vast majority of folks with the F-150 have the Ecoboost so that makes me think it totally works. I'm just a simply V-8 guy...

    • @LuvSubbin
      @LuvSubbin  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for watching! Yes, we've tried that. C is small and needs to have the seat at an extreme vertical angle in order to see over the dash. Thus the Bun Angle interferes with the Headrest Angle. Bun issues are real!

      Rich you picked a very debated subject,but Ford is popular tow brand with Air-streamers.I have turbo boost gas injection engine most my life. Must engines that fail is poor maintenance with 10 K oil changes. I owned first generation eco boost and 3rd generation eco boost with port injection 3.5. Ford is done a lot research to improve engine reliability and performance. I get your thinking with 5.0 liter in keep it simple philosophy. Thanks again for videos.

    I had a 2018 tundra 4x4 extra cab. Shift on column was great. Now I have 2021 crew cab, 38 gallon fuel tank, which gives me a 325-350 cruising range while towing. Good vid. I now have a 2022 F350 which I use to yank a fairly large boat around beside the Airstream. This truck is my first Ford. Embarrassed to say the only reason we bought the Ford was because Chevy at the time didn't offer adaptive cruise but we like the truck a lot. One irritant though is the Chevy and our car both had a small bump to rest your left foot when driving. On this Ford it's basically flat floor. I'm always tapping my foot around trying to get comfortable.

    Great video. We have a 2021 with the 3.5 eco boost and are quite happy with it. Interestingly, we get about the same mileage as you and we are pulling a Caravel 20fb. We opted for the 36 gallon tank and we get between 360 and 400 miles of range, of course we try to never go much below half tank but there are times when it has come in handy. Question, we have about 1650 lbs of payload, was your number of 2000 the factory number? If so how much does the cap weigh? We have a factory tonneau cover, the super cab and the 36 gallon tank which all reduced our payload.

    • @LuvSubbin
      @LuvSubbin  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching! Yes, the 2,097 payload was the factory number as shown on the door jamb sticker. The cap weight was about 200 lbs. which, as you indicate, reduces our payload accordingly. Even stuffed full for 5 months, we are still hundreds of pounds under our capacity.

    We have the 3.5 Ecoboost Powerboost XLT (hybrid) and have hauled across the US four occasions during the past 24 months. Like the gas mileage when not towing and its perfectly effective pulling our 5-6,000 lb trailer. Of particular value is the 7.2kw inverter/generator on the tailgate which gives us full shore power when we boondock. We're puzzled that Ford has sat on its hands for the past 3 years and not brought out a full plug-in version that would offer owners 100 miles electric-only driving (which would allow most of us to drive electric only during the week) but preserve its towing and range. May have a long hard look at the RAM charger when it arrives in 2025....

    • @LuvSubbin
      @LuvSubbin  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching! Yes, the Ecoboost is great and we would estimate that 90% of RV's that we see being pulled by an F-150 have the Ecoboost. I just like the simplicity of an unblown V-8. That inverter is super cool.
