Your videos are a heartwarming combination of bikes and bonding. To see you working with your son, building fond memories together is wonderful. How I wish my own father had taken the time to do so with me when I was a boy. May God bless you and keep you and your family ❤
This is the best comment I think that I have received on this channel - absolutely the best recognition one could ask for. This was exactly what this "TH-cam" project has been about for me since day one. Thank you so much for your kind words as I hope you continue to enjoy our memories as we make them!
Watching your video made me miss my Dad so much Brother..:/. Thank you for the positive content, made my morning. God bless.
Thank you so much, making memories, gotta love it
Awesome! I think you caught those carbs just in time before they got much worse! The hardware on the carbs had been changed and the intake manifolds I believe. Also big shoutout to Chase for being a great cameraman and tech!
Thanks BJ. We have been having some fun in garage lately, finally. Im hoping that whoever had this before did some engine work and losely put back together. Those carb bowels were barely screwed down anf this oil issue. I wonder if the had the engine apart and again, losely pit it back together. The oil looks brand new. Ah, the mysteries 🤔👍🍻
I'll definitely pass along your comment to Chase. Coming soon he'll be the "on camera" man 🥰
@@ACECafeBikes that oil leak was crazy!
One of the best online Touring Motorcycles of it's day ! They came in 850 & 1100cc,shaft drive!
...and I have both ❤
And GS 1000 G as well.
That's awesome! It's a great feeling, getting something running again!
This one is fighting me, but it is fun!
I've bought the same bike with the same deal hasn't been started for 17 years haha the fuel was absolutely green but it has only done 21000 k's can't wait to get it fired up 💯
Good luck - hopefully you dont have oil spew from everywhere like this one. However, I do believe that we have solved that mystery. Cant wait for you to ride yours as we are in high hopes to ride ours
The carb syncing with vacuum gauges and replacing the 4 Diaphragm Assembly's in the carbs is a must have. After many years siting dry these are DEAD, replace them with NEW ones. This is all very important when slowing down to prevent the shot gun effect that will harm the motor.
Thanks for the tip 💪
Man the sonic cleaner worked awesome. If you got it running you’ll figure out the oil and the dead cylinder I bet it’s something small. Great to see chase out helping and funny when he laughs at you hitting the horn on accident
We are totally loving it, used it about 5 times now and it does a great job. Chase is such a clown. Next week, roles are reversed ❤
Great video. That must be the new eco-friendly “green gas”.
Doesn't taste like green apples 🤔
Good work Chase on the camera! Bike looked like it was in pretty good shape
That is the hope, I'll be diving into that this weekend. Chase is the man when it comes to filming, lets see how he does with being on camera. Stay tuned for next week.
My bet is that you still have some paths for the fuel enrichment and possibly the pilot/idle mixture circuit of one of the cars still clogged. good possibility one or more plugs bad too. Total breakdown of carbs and checking all the tiny little passages are clear. Good Luck
Thanks for the advice - I have readdressed the carbs and I did overlook the pilot jet as they were under the rubber plugs...and they were pretty nasty like everything else was before we began cleaning. I suspect this will help starting the bike and running better. The 3 cylinders that were running those plugs all seemed to look fine - if not a little lean. The 4th cylinder plug almost looked fouled, not oily, but extremely caked with carbon. I'll be back on this later in the week - thanks again for chiming in.
i had one of these exactly the same here in Australia its been all over the world on a cargo plane in the airforce just to ride around the base still goin today
Thats so awesome. I hope that we can get this back on the road. Its such a good looking clean bike. Just sat in someone's garage too long. Stay tuned for more to come on this guy
The only thing to watch on those ultrasonic cleaners is anything rubber or plastic, it doesn’t do them any good , I usually strip the part and leave any rubber or plastic out of the ultrasonic. Nice work on that old bike
Thanks for the tip on the rubber bits - I was curious about that, I dont think that cleaner that I am using would harm them, but I will consider that in the future. Hopefully she'll appreciate this once over and treat us well in the months ahead
It must be nice to have your own camera man. He did a n awesome job. Did I miss it, Whats that bath thing called. Is it one and done cleaning for the solution? The rubber inside looked good. Its nice you do not have to resync them . Love that you guys are doing this together!!!
He is fun to have around, thats for sure. Having this big of a cleaner is really nice. Im impressed with how well its working. We washed them in two cycles before we disassembled them. I threw it back in with all the bits for another 15 minute run and then put them back together. Awesome
I have had 2 1100gk `s. both 84 mod. one singel bike and 1 with sidecar. very good bikes. a litle top heavy . but else top touring bikes :)
Thats awesome! Never rode a bike with a side car - I bet that has to be a blast!
You shouldn't put the carbs in the ultrasonic with the rubber still in them. You will ruin your diaphrams and the rubber plugs over the pilot jets and such. Use something plastic to break the slides loose and remove them before putting in the cleaner. I didn't see where you removed the rubber plugs and the pilot jets. Those pilot jets didn't get cleaned without removing them. That might be why it isn't running on the one cylinder. Also, these bikes won't run correctly without the air box in place.
Thanks so much for the tip - you're right I dont think I did remove the plugs and clean those jets - I have the carbs back of I will certainly investigate that.
Watch out for RobsRides mechanic police division!🤣Sloppy Mechanic!! Your Busted!!😲😩😂
It is so much cooler to hold a camera for your dad than a flashlight, and I ain't kidding :)
Its a lot of fun having him around. Next week total role reversal, I'm the cameraman. Stay tuned for that one 🍻
It really is oil. I thought it was patrol, for a second, but it's oil, and probably the reason why the previous owner got rid of it. Get a gasket set, a torque wrench and a workshop manual. Will make for a nice video. Good luck.
Thats the hope. Im thinking that maybe the previous owner did some work and that he didn't tighten things down properly. The oil looks very fresh. Thanks for the advice, I'll see what we can do.
I had a 1982 GS 1100 Suzuki and it ran great. Get it running and turn it into a Cafe Racer. It can be done, just keep at it.
Turning it into a cafe bike was the first thought and probably what drew us to it in the beginning. But after seeing it up close, sometimes they are just better to leave original. Someone has done a good job at trying to maintain this one, thats why it was a bit of a disappointment, but we'll figure it out I'm sure and there has been a lot of support on this video as well as the next one with suggestions as what to look for and remedy. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Curious as to why you didn't remove float and jets before soaking?
First time using the ultrasonic - wanted to see what it would do and they were really gunky - it was nice to have them go through one time to git rid of a lot of the sticky :)
Are you gonna cafe it. The full faring bags saved lot of the metal form uv. But looks like an inside bike. Ye old 2 valve Suzk.air cooled run forever as long as do a little mateinance Have couple 1200 bandits on stock steel frame Other in a GSXR chassis.
Nope, this one we are keeping all stock!
@@ACECafeBikes it is too nice to mess with. You can take it from Seattle to Miami Be pretty comfortable.
The diaphragms were ok after the cleaner?
Yeah, they are fine. The chemical is actually fairly mild.
Did you check the idle jets and their rubber plugs?
We did, but we are doing to dive back into it this weekend and see what we missed and check where all that oil is coming from
wish my son's could of help me work on my motorcycles & cars when they were growing up, they can't even change a flat tire.. sad i know
Sorry to hear that. Thanks for watching
We're you there with them when they're growing up?
That would explain why
yes I was but their mother won't let them do Man work@@903strikerunit
Does carburators looked new
Not on the inside 😉
You should have taken the carbs all of the way apart! Waste of time
I like to give them a quick bath before I take them apart so they are so sticky and I have found that they come apart easier.
first job old bike have take ALL carb off and clean totally clean all whit ultrasonic cleaner and then do all other or waste only time than idiot, carb have first and important job old bike. then ingnition check.
