    Make so much sense to attach tasks to things that you already naturally do. It seems that it would just flow naturally. Instead of it being this intrusive task to accommodate in your life. No wonder we don’t follow through a lot of times!😅 Love your videos.

    I usually clean my tub after I shave my legs, I do it while I’m still in there, it’s much easier on the back. Then I rinse me and rinse the tub as I get out. I need to find a habit to help me dust more. My house gets dusty fast.

    Love this! As a hygienist I had an “aha” moment a few years ago when it came to flossing. Basically it was habit stacking! I already brush my teeth and I KNOW I won’t neglect brushing... I stacked my flossing habit before I brush. Now I floss more than I ever have. So I’m going to try this “stacking” with other habits. :)

    Habit stacking is the best! It’s how I’ve kept up with making my bed daily without fail for the last year or so. The first time it’s been regular in my whole 29 years of married life. I need to make some more because it’s SO extremely successful.

    I’ve heard about habit stacking up as you were talking about how you clean the bathtub on the days you wash your hair it made me realize I had accidentally habit stacked. The days that I clean my hair and or shave because they don’t always coincide I tend to clean up a bit more in the bathroom because I am in there longer so I just naturally fix some of the smaller things that might be ignored.
    I also know when I am trying get a routine I will write out my ideal routine and then attach the first thing to something I already do and then slowly add everything else. I don’t attempt to do everything at once because I know it won’t work.

    • @AnnieSmithawifenmother
      @AnnieSmithawifenmother  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s awesome that you are doing it naturally!

    • @jenniferprice9971
      @jenniferprice9971 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I feel like we all naturally habit stack in some ways. Such as the first thing you do when getting up of a morning, or first thing after eating supper or getting home from the day. I believe the power of habit stacking is it is hacking what our bodies and our minds naturally do which is associate different items with each other. The closer the natural connection the more likely it is that it will be become a habit when associated with another task such as your example of putting out clothes for the next when you get out pjs, very similar actions so easy to string together and habit stack.

    When I used chemicals to clean the bathtub, I'd clean it right before my shower. That way if any chemicals got on me, I could wash it right off. Now that I use apple cider vinegar, I scrub the tub whilst I am taking my shower. The shower head is on a hose so it's easy to rinse the walls down too. The hot water really helps keep me limber so I can really do a good job, instead of rushing to beat the pain. 💜🌞🌵😷

    Brilliant! Thank you, Annie. One thing that we have been doing consistently is one thing in=one thing out for clothing, shoes, etc. to help us maintain decluttered spaces. Not sure if it's totally the same, but it's similar and works well. I am definitely going to give habit stacking a go in other areas, especially the shower/bathtub cleaning bit. Not my fav chore, LOL! Going to try it with building good habits at work too to streamline some things. Thank you so much for sharing!! 😊

    I love being a part of your tribe and I loved this video. You are such a gift, I say that a lot but I love coming back to ground here. I really enjoy your videos and look forward to hearing more about the stackable habits. I would love to hear your thoughts on the busier season i.e. when your children break from homeschool and whether the habits are as easy to maintain. I speak from the point of view of a mother who may lose track of habits when school breaks for holidays (every 10 weeks). I find it not as easy to keep up when the season is busier. Sorry for essay... Your channe is always inspiringl Annie. Another excellent video. Thank you :)

    I have done this for years, in fact it is the only way my brain can function especially with ADHD. I haven't heard it call habit stacking through. I always thought of it as a cue...this task cues you to do this and then this and so on...example: wake-up cues me to pray, praying cues me its time to get out of bed, getting out of bed cues me to make the bed, making the bed cues me to open the curtains and so on. My brain is so wired this way to the point of if anything unusual happens that day; I'm either completely unsure of what to do or most often I have to start from the beginning and go through all the cues. I'm working on adding a cue to do 10 push ups and 10 squats every time I use the rest room, which is also my cue to drink water. I hope those who haven't heard of this find this video and it is very helpful to them as for me its just the way I was designed to function. Thanks for sharing! I love the way you explained it!

      @@thelordismyshepherd1366 I hope it does! I know hard with kids, but be sure to include something she wants to do at the end of the "cues" / "habit stacking" this helps keep the drive and focus for ADHD brains knowing their is a desired activity or "reward at the end" example: wake-up go pee, wash hands, , brush teeth, wash face, feed the pet, play with the pet. It doesn't have to be huge just anything she enjoys. I wish you the best!

    i heard about habit stacking from the book Atomic Habits by James Clear.

  • @suzisaintjames
    @suzisaintjames 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    In the first minutes of being awake for me is being on autopilot... and goes like this... A trip to the bathroom, coffee, (here's where I piggybacked) brush my teeth, and empty the dishwasher. ... And here's my logic: the only thing to get me into the kitchen is COFFEE! So I keep my coffee cup in the dishwasher. So I empty the dishwasher whilst the coffee is making... (remember, I'm on autopilot, not really awake. Plus I'm spry... My back hasn't started hurting.) Then on the way back to the bedroom, I stop off and brush my teeth. ... Because teeth brushing is such a priority, I put it on the list after coffee. That way it doesn't get skipped. I've noticed that if I skip empty dishwasher, I'd never get to teeth brushing. But now that teeth brushing is after coffee on the list, I never skip it. Even if I skip emptying the dishwasher. I used to empty the dishwasher whilst cooking breakfast, but that was too much standing, so now with a sit-down and a cuppa coffee... I'm ready to go. ... My take away after this monologue is some times you have to schedule things you hate (like dishwasher) so early that there's no time to think of an excuse and do them on your fittness abilities. 💜🌞🌵😷
