  • If you have followed me on Instagram for a while, chances are you have heard me refer to my "Block Schedule System" many times. The Block Schedule System is something I made up years ago that has increased my productivity by 10-fold (or more!) and is hands-down one of the most useful, viral, and effective principles I share in all of my ProductivityBootCamp.com program (psst use the code TH-cam for 10% off!). It not only helps you get more done in a day WITHOUT burnout, helps with time management, and makes your home insanely stress-free, but will also magically free up HOURS of time for you to fill with things that fulfill you most, and you never feel like you have time for! Note: Watch the whole video! I promise it will answer most of your questions!

Pro tip for all my creatives out there (writers, artists, ect.) DON'T DO YOUR MOST CREATIVE TASKS CLOSE TO BED! You'll either be so tired that you won't be able to do anything or you'll get a burst of creativity halfway through and won't be able to stop to fall asleep. Organize your blocks by energy level helps too!

I can listen to them at the gym or while I clean and cook and I almost always listen to them with the speed turned up to 1.25-1.5. Audiobooks are not "cheating" people!

Some of my (favorite) classes I totally excelled. But it was really exhausting! I totally forgot about the whole block scheduling system until now. Maybe now, years later, I could still utilize some of that with my current, calmer schedule 😂

THIS IS A NEW SYSTEM, GIVE YOURSELF SOME GRACE SO YOU CAN LEARN. Right? Right. I myself am a chronic ‘plate bigger than my mouth’ person. “YES I CAN DO THIS IN 3 HOURS!” usually turns into ‘crap I did this in like, 7 hours. It’s ok. Time only feels like it’s running once your’e studying how it moves.

I started following your idea of block scheduling at the beginning of summer. I was taking 2 online classes, starting a part time job and having my son home from school all summer. I know I function A LOT better when I have a set schedule. You said something like, "I have 5 kids and 24 hours in a day - I didn't get more time with each child. I had to make it all fit." That hit me like a ton of bricks, I knew I could increase my productivity if I could stick to a plan. So I gave it a go. I blocked out my school time, home chores, kiddo activities, date with hubby time, work - I laid it all out. First semester I made the Dean's List because I think I was actually giving myself proper study time!!! So I'm sold. Now that the Fall semester is here things are changing and I'm drafting a new schedule but I'm LOVING the Block Schedule Life. Have a beautiful day darlin'.

I have been teaching this concept of block scheduling for several years. It is particularly helpful for those with mood disorders and struggle to get things done. Though I tend to set it up with less blocks and have a person identify key tasks to meet during at least two of the three blocks. As they begin to master that, we increase. But key is consistency. So set it up, as morning, afternoon, and evening. I even have people set timers for these. What I do like about this is how detailed and another way to share how to work this sort of schedule.

    • @elizabethwebster6285
      @elizabethwebster6285 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

This is what I started doing for myself, getting the block schedule system from Jordan. With me being in college, and working at the college, my work schedule for the entire semester is pretty much the same, which is nice! So it made more sense for me to section it off in Morning, Afternoon, and Evening blocks, but since I take an online course as well. I wanted to dedicate specific time to work on that class each day, so that's like my class time. But for the rest of the block time, I have on a separate sheet that shows what I can do in each block. Pretty much the same thing as Jordan's part. It definitely doesn't feel as overwhelming as it was before, which is nice!

I've been doing this type of method for months now. I didn't realize it was the block method. Basically, I would forget to eat, homeschooling was all over the place, chores were never completed and we were eating dinner so close to bedtime. So I started setting alarms in my phone to wake up and "morning routine " and "class time" and "lunch" and "room of the day " and then we have actual routine charts that we can refer to when the alarm sounds and we can mark tasks off with a dry erase marker. So basically the same concept as the block method.

But I tried this method starting my blocks 3,2,1 hour blocks excluding sleep. It really did wonders that day. This would be a wonderful app if it was created. My most important block was "self care and sleep". Trying to master it for night shift workers and it's possible you guys. I got sleep, I was able to block out time for family, cook, clean, and run an errand. Everybody has a different life and schedule you have to customize it for You. Be blessed.

Oh my! Yes, yes I do! I hate it. I have also disliked words like goals, timers, block 'schedule'. Instead I made mine super personal and instead of using goals I say objective (I feel like that give me a little more leeway for error which is humanly okay), instead of timer I use the word 'sound' and I use a relaxing sound to help me feel like I'm not being rushed, Instead of schedule I use the word 'method'. I have 7 'methods' in my day: Morning Method (get ready etc...), Moving Method (Out the door doing errands, etc...), Meditation Method (Nap, make and prepare food...etc...), Money Method (Work), Missionary Method (Doing service for others and my husband, making sure the house is cleaned up, etc...), Melt Method (Phone time and Husband time!), and Sleep (Don't add the word method on the end of this because I'm not doing anything but resting which is important to seperate that out in our minds because then we can 'shut our minds off' a lot easier."

It got so bad it became part of my anxiety disorder along with avoiding phone calls because of the ring and post office for the bad letters. Now that I can buy online it’s made going to the POB about blessings or good things, now we can change the ring tone. That helped a lot. And for alarms too. Now that I can have good alarms for things that are stress free like water the plants. Over time it helped me get that alarm scare a bit normalized. But for a long time it caused emotional pain during a period where I was sick but still had to work.

    • @katetheaffiliatemomofficial

Tara Hays hahaha! Seriously! I love your comment! :) I get 1 of two responses on a typical day. One: they ask me more questions are genuinely interested or feel it could help them. Two: I get a weird look and a reply, “That sounds interesting.” I’ve heard that the using the word “interesting” is a way of not offending people even if your not genuinely interested 😂. I only let the complete empathetic Kate show up around close friends and family members who understand me as a person because I can sense even the tiniest things that are off. I go to a handful or practitioners for my back, health, etc...and they all say that I am super sensitive and that is a good thing because most of the general population isn’t and will have more health problems in the future! But it is sooooo important for us to share what we are sensing or empathizing about because in the small cases where people listen it genuinely can change the course of their life. It’s amazing. Is this how you are like or that you’ve noticed?? What’s your experience been like? ☀️🤗

    • @Beepbopboop19
      @Beepbopboop19 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Kate Mind Skills I’ve noticed the older I get (and now being a mom) I try and reserve my real empathetic side for family. It’s takes a lot of emotional strength to work with the public and have a hubby and toddler. So I guess I don’t share what I’m sensing much and have tried not to in recent years. I’ve gotten farther professionally taking this route, and focusing healing on myself and family. It’s all seasons though and that may change again sometime:) you sound like you know yourself that’s awesome!💜

I’m a newly homeschooling mom of two and I’m always going to bed thinking “there’s never enough time!” I’ve often wondered what changed between high school and graduating college that made me feel so crazy....adulthood is one half of the equation but the block schedule makes complete sense! I literally told my husband last night that I feel like I never get anything fully done because I run from task to task getting everything halfway done. If I’m working on one task I feel guilty for not working on the other. I wanted to find a way to just focus on one thing at a time but hourly schedules never seemed to work. Life can be very overwhelming sometimes and makes some people want to hide and disassociate from life. I've been there. Choosing to put yourself out there and pursue something you know deep down inside you'd like to do would probably help you feel a lot better. Maybe sign up to take some classes at a yoga studio, or volunteer at the humane society or find a very part time easygoing job. You can improve your life! But you have to choose to do it. Small steps are all it takes.

I've been struggling with depression and anxiety as well and it can be very hard to even find the mental strength to get up and do this stuff, even making a schedule. I did the short specific blocks before too, and it overwhelmed me so much that I didn't get done pretty much any of the stuff I wanted to get done.. What I'm doing now is Morning, Afternoon, and Evening blocks, there's a lot more detail that went into what I'm starting to do, if I can I'd love to share it with you. It just would be a lot for a comment on here lol. But after switching to doing these 3 blocks, even though I may not be consistent with it yet, just knowing my day is divided up like that takes away the feeling of being overwhelmed.

I have chronic illnesses that keep me from having the same number of "productive" hours in a day than I used to have. I think this concept of blocks will work for me on a spread-out basis. For example, I know that if I have to budget my "Outing" time to once per week. For example, if I have 1 meeting in a week, or a Dr's appointment, I can't go into work that same week. (I work a 5/hr/wk paid job & volunteer several hours a week, both mostly from home). I can still work, just not drive 1/2 hr there, work 2-5 hrs & drive 1/2 hr back home - too much for me, it takes me days to recover. Thankfully, I have the flexibility to make this happen. I also find that I need to schedule in silence - time to Be Still and Know... This is vital in my ability to be in pain and yet have joy, recognize my losses and yet celebrate what I can do, acknowledge that my limitations effect my children & husband and yet BE fully Mom & Wife in those blocks where we are together. Focusing on what I CAN

Single people sometimes have it harder than people think because they have no one to delegate tasks or to share chores with. This method of organization is very helpful. I find myself to be more productive managing my to do list in small blocks. It doesnt become overwhelming and it makes big and competing tasks manageable.

What a terrible thing to teach someone that there are no limits, boundaries and deadlines something that is a part of life, life itself can end at any moment. So to teach them that you should focus on what you love or like for endless amounts of time until necessity compels you to do otherwise. I do not want to teach my children that. The people who will suffer most are the spouses and children and your child, but you, who are causing it will suffer the least. Your home is a launchpad for the child so if you don't teach them how to live and navigate life, you have done them a disservice.

Maybe you need to have someone come in to help you with kids hire a nanny use family to come in but obviously this doesn’t apply to you

autumn roberts My comment was to offer encouragement for those Moms who already feel so much guilt because they can’t be Super Mom. Hashimotos and Adrenal Fatigue is something I will have forever. It doesn’t ever go a way. I will always feel tired. My comment was to point out that choice isn’t the only thing that keeps people from being productive. Sometimes there are health issues that makes it really difficult. No one needs to be mom shamed or judged.

Aja Tracy I have looked a bit into intermittent fasting, but it hasn’t been successful for me since I am hypoglycemic. I can’t go very long without food before I start shaking, get light headed or pass out. 😞

I’m definitely going to try it. I’ve been working on something where I have a morning routine and a night routine that includes yoga, dishes, reading a chapter etc so I think this is the next step. The routines have been helpful.

This is how I schedule my time because an hour by hour schedule gave me anxiety and made me feel like a failure. Great minds think alike. I actually use a student planner layout and my planning is so much more tied in with my intentions.

Love love LOVE! I sort of already do a “block” system and I can testify that it’s AMAZING! I’m not nearly as busy as most people though but it’s works great for me because I really do get overwhelmed when there’s too much going on and lack of schedule is out of control. I have morning routines, house cleaning play dates and outing tasks while my oldest is in school (still have a little one at home) then after school routine and evening routine. Once kids are in bed, I’m am clocked out and it’s grown up time with my man. It’s an absolute must.
This was very informative and helpful though, knowing that my boys will be so much busier soon when we start sports and such and even when we get a bigger home someday (we’re in a small home so it’s doesn’t take long to clean 🙌🏻)
    Thank you Jordan! ❤️

My kids are grown and I am retired. Even just reading your schedule for the day exhausted me - you are a dynamo! :)
For a long time, after I retired, I was not using my time very efficiently and everyday things like housework, yardwork, etc. were not getting done often enough. I know that sounds counter-intuitive but when you have got too much time on your hands sometimes it's easy to put off stuff (that you don't like doing) particularly if there is another empty day tomorrow looming ahead. There's way more to it, but in a nutshell, everyday stuff quickly became overwhelming.
Then I ran across bullet journalling and became a fan. I have been making a schedule of things that need to get done and it has made my life a LOT easier and happier! I have daily tasks, weekly tasks, monthly tasks and so on... Now that I have a list of the stuff I want to get done and a time frame of when it needs to get done, I think blocking time to do it will be the next step. Such an excellent video. Thanks!

I'm here because I'm trying to change my life getting over an addiction. I know I need to start having a schedule so I don't have down time because that's when I can relapse. Glad I stumbled upon this vid.

At one part of my life, in university, I was so anxious about all the things I had to do or study that I was forgetting to eat, relax, take time with my husband and sleep. All of that was on irregular hours. What save me was a schedule!
! I do it diffently of your's. I have a print week sheet that block my courses/work time (one color for each courses) and I had print another with 1-2-3 hours of tasks/ studies/events that comes week after week. I cut it all and I glue temporaly on the sheet week after week. It include time for transport (don't neglect it. It's all 1 hour for me and a take time to relax and prepre myself mentally for the next task, eat (help me to beat anrexia), sleep, relax (so important) and rendez-vous with my husband (Yes, I make a rendez-vous in my schedule for the person I live with. It's incredible how it help us). I had extra bloc for transport, party, familly visit (once in 3 three weeks ) or other things that come less often. I make it a Tetris game!
With that system, combine with a monthly calendar to see coming important, I forgot nothing I have to place in and it's fast to do.

While it is true that everyone has 24 hours in a day, you cannot deny that wealthier people have more leisure time. If you do all your own cooking, your day looks a lot different than someone who has a personal chef. If you work 12 hours a day and commute for another 2, your day looks a lot different than someone who has several weeks off a year. So no, time isn't the same across social classes. My 24 hours is absolutely nothing like that of a celebrity's.

I don't think anyone is claiming that a block schedule is going to make everyone's lives equal though. What it will do is help YOU to use YOUR time better, and help you to live YOUR best life.

that just means you have to more intentional with your time. the wealthy are often wealthy because of the habits they practice and don't just settle for where they are at.

    • @christineguerrero5678

I wholeheartily disagree that celebrities have more leisure time. Between photoshoots, meet and greets, meetings, press releases, movies, tv appearances, music videos (whatever their talent is) they have way less downtime than people who aren't popular and trying to not only maintain their career but their reputation. Someone who has a personal chef has one because they are running lines or working.... not lounging by a pool. Some actors work 15+ hours a day while they are filming. There's a TED talk on this.

    • @rawcurls1

Wealthier people than you work very hard and long hours, that is how they got to be wealthy, same with celebrities.
But why focus on that, as the saying goes mind and water your own garden not others', and you will find much more peace and joy.
The worst thing people can do is compare their lives to others and think the grass is greener on the other side, don't focus on that, focus on your own grass and your own garden, forget about comparing to others, everyone has their own challenges in life and nobody has it better or easier than anyone else.
The People in India who are dirt poor are so genuinely happy and generous.
If you have the luxury of watching and commenting on You Tube you are already in the world's top percentage of wealth.

Yes but you know the video was edited, right? When editing a video you have a chance to redo whatever you want, or splice in something, like when she was laying on the couch. That was edited in while she was talking so the audio and the video were combined in that part of this video. Editing makes videos/movies look and sound professional.
