  • Well, it had to happen. I have wanted one of these 1/14 scale Tamiya trucks for years. My plan was to convert one of the Scania R620s to a Heavy Haul type truck. When this was announced I knew one would head my way.
    I saw it in stock on some facebook photos at @JadlamRacingModels in Glastonbury so took a road trip this morning to see if there was one still in stock.
    This will probably be build in slow stages and I hope to have the full sound and light kit too.

    Thanks for the unboxing. It's an impressive looking model. I see it as kind of a niche model, as a heavy hauler it possible 'only' look the best with a fine low bed trailer behind, while the 6x4 3 axle models will look fine with any kind of traler behind, imo) To haul some heavy stuff, one might be better off witha 70-80t motor (?) Will be interesting following the build

    • @rivierarc
      @rivierarc  ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers for the comment.. I do have a low loader of some sort in mind for the future. I originally wanted the 6x4 to modify so this saves me the hassle of conversion, especially as its my first truck. It is going to be a huge learning curve thats for sure.
      I have seen people mention either 55t or 80t motors instead of the original and I'd imagine this new 35t will still be way too fast.

    Nice to see they have put in proper bearings and motor from the off, normally always extras to buy. Then again, it's been a few years since I have brought a tamiya truck kit, so I'm unsure if the bearings are in the volvo or the other next gen scania kit.

      Older kits never had bearings so it's nice to see. Another point I wouldn't bother with the MFU or MFC servonaut or pistenking system is way better or even a beier one.

  • @Hi_Doctor_Nick

    That kit looks great, just subscribed to follow this build. I got a 1/14 truck with a MFC-01 and I personally hate it. Easy to setup, all plug & play, but it's so big and untidy. I would definitely look at other brands. Most do light boards with ribbon cable's for the standard front & rear lights. Where as the tamiya you'll have 2 wires per LED, multiplied by minimum 16 lights, plus sound and maybe 5th wheel... 🤯
    Have you watched Hobbyconcepts-LLC? He's just got the same kit. Might be worth following that build. He's got lots of videos regarding light & sound setup using Tamiya MFC and other brands for these trucks.
    Out of interest, what is the rubber compound like for the tyres? My old tamiya one's are so hard it's like plastic. My 6x4 would wheel spin and slide.

    • @rivierarc
      @rivierarc  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, watched his video today and cant wait for his build for hints and tips. I am tempted with the MFC03 but I am in loads of groups on FB and so many people say the Beier one is much better, especially as he reckons that there are too many lights for the MFC on the 770 8X4.
      I am asking questions on forums about the right direction people would go especially as it is my first build. Cheers for the sub, i will be starting soon

  • @mattiasrc
    @mattiasrc ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It´s a really nice kit even if it is a bit pricy. They do include the Mighty Tuned 35T motor in some of the kits like the wrecker, timber truck, dump trucks. Im a bit tempted to get one too.

    • @rivierarc
      @rivierarc  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah, ok. I haven't looked at those others so didn't realise that motor was included before. Thank you for letting me know. It isn't the cheapest but as it is was I wanted I would rather go with this out of the box than mess up modifying another kit.
      I hope to gain modifying skills when it eventually comes to the trailer... although that will be a long time yet.
      Cheers for commenting and thanks for the sub.
