Appreciate that rather than just calling raw fish meals gross, he knows it's a delicacy his palette can't handle and acknowledges the food is wasted on him. AND he seemed to eat it all.
Once in a lifetime, if at all possible, try an exquisite Japanese kaiseki meal. Doesn't have to be Michelin-star grade, it will still be an unforgettable delight.
I found that once I tried sashimi and cold smoked fish, only at a fairly basic mass produced level, cooked fish was always somewhat of a dissapointment.
I really liked this video and the way Paul was served with these dishes. But there was too much to eat, I could not have eaten all these delicious Japanese dishes.! 😅
Yes, it's called milt, though probably more commonly known as soft roe. Soft roe has been used in Italian cuisine as pasta topping, in Britain as a bread spread, etc. for ages. It's just that, nobody calls it "cod semen." Lol. It tastes similar to fish roe/caviar and that type of stuff. It's not just the seminal fluids, mind you, it's actually the whole fish testes, either fried, or made into a paste or sauce, or dressing.
For those who are appalled about the "fish semen" (quite common in expensive dining) while traveling through Japan, it's called "shirako" (白子) so if you see it on the menu....😁 I'm not a fan of it either but the way it's prepared here as a sauce with the plum, I could handle it. Besides, American dining includes Mountain Oyster. And I'd kill for the raw lobster, the ones in the US, you never know if its full of worms unless previously frozen or carefully raised in a specialty farm.
I have two foodie friends who travel the world to eat this way, I think it’s beautiful to look at but have no interest. I am a Keg steak kind of woman..💕😊🇨🇦
I'm with him. Western palates aren't accustomed to raw fish, and other slippery foods, so it would be challenging. I would have enjoyed maybe half of those dishes, in smaller portions.
@@fajarsetiawan8665 it depends on the way it's smoked. Some varieties of gravlax is quite slippery and delicate, just brined and smoked. Not all raw fish is slippery, tuna is rather chewy, as is yellowtail. In Italy they have pesce crudo, which is just raw fish drizzled with olive oil, salt and other ingredients. They also have fish carpaccio. In Spain they have raw fish dishes, and the Dutch have their herring.
@@Caseyuptobat Oh no.... :O You Germans eat that? We Swedes like pickled herring, which we call 'inlagd sill', mmmm such a delicacy. Usually mixed in many different varieties, like mustard, different types of onion, shrimps with creme fraiche and mayo (!!!) or my favorite, apple, creme fraiche, curry and mayo, a wonderful combination with pickled herring/sill!
I came from Uncle Roger. No wonder this guy's sense of Japanese food is so fucked up. He going to the most remote expensive restaurants instead of eating cheap street food where every Asian knows is better.
Nice, aesthetically pleasing, but whether it's good, I don't know. Different culture, different flavors than ours. I don't get excited about Japanese food. I prefer traditional Polish flavors
we all have our biases my friend, especially when it comes to food. we grew up with building the taste for the local delicacies. i am sure you're very honest about your preference as so am i, i love my local food but can you tell me what polish food you would recommend (if i ever get a chance to visit Poland that is)
When he muttered, “It’s just wasted on me. I’m such a peasant.” 😂

He is being polite .
Well he paid a fortune for that course
I love the grin on the servers face after she gives him the sorbet with wasabi. She know what’s coming. Lol
Hello Teresa, how are you doing and your family, how is everything going with you?
So happy Paul was honest. Somethings just weren't his cup of tea.
"Pickled plum in fish semen" caught me off gaurd lol

If anyone's interested in weird ways to prepare food you should try gastronomy. It's a food science that upper class restaurants use sometimes.
name of all the foods ?
What a feast...nice one...
ha...ha....ha...I laugh so loud watching Paul eating those 13 full menu...Sleep for a whole week...?! :-) :-) :-)
Man that guy is amazing. Reminds me of my wifes dad :D

smoked salmon is similar to sashimi
oh i know i'd eat all of it. even as a westerner lol
@@kens7537 nope. Not similar in a slightest. Smoked salmon is firm and meaty. While raw salmon is, well, slippery and delicate.
We eat plenty of raw fish in the West. Both Nordic and Mediterranean regional cuisines feature raw seafood. Though it's prepared differently.

I will never eat raw food let alone fish!!! 🤢🤮
Sashimi is delicious.
