    Though I am Catholic, I tried the Ramadan fast twice in my life: once in college with some Malay friends (I ultimately failed - it was exam time) and successfully when I lived in Java. I broke the fast on a bus headed to Bali. I looked forward to iftar and the pre-fast breakfast (sahur?).

    • @toh786
      @toh786 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The pre-fast breakfast is called "Sehri", hehe.

    • @derbdep
      @derbdep ปีที่แล้ว

      @@toh786 its suhur, or any variation that matches the sound of the word "suhūr" in Arabic (so people appropriate the spelling as "sahoor/suhoor/souhour/sohor/suhor/s'hur" etc dependent on their native language, local pronunciation, othography etc). Indian Subcontinental Muslims, Turkic and Persians call it "sehri" or "sahri", as they loaned it from Persian word "sahrī", which in turn was loaned from the original Arabic as "saharī". Hope this helps. I was born into a Muslim family on my father's side, so I'm familiar with their beliefs..

    In 2:30, the palapa is a Maranao spice/condiment. Its basic ingredients are combination of "Luya Pagiris'n" or Ginger and "Sakurab" (2:54) or local Scallion. To make the Palapa, you have to pound these two ingredients using mortar and pestle (or using a food grinder which is I don't recommend). It is one of the most in-demand condiment in Lanao del Sur since most of us, M'ranao, are still using traditional condiment to spice our foods.

    In Mindanao it's called pastil the one you eat 9:33 which is very popular on uni/college students to eat in lunch because it is cheap and comes with different flavors it can be tuna or chicken flavored with curry, Isaw sauce, spicy or sweet. With free side dishes like cucumber, chili oil, roasted eggplant or bagoong. You can also add other non-free ulam like pancit canton, bihon, fried egg, chicarong bulak (fried meat skin) and bulad (dry fish)

It is composed of coconut, chilly, ginger, and this plant they call "Sakurab" which is like a smaller variety of green onion but bitter than the green onion and also has a very strong smell
    Edit:

Bicol is home to lotta cuisines which contains coconut milk and chili that gives a sort type of identity to the place, it is a travel you must go to sir.
