I usually beat Kat easily as Zed but ever since the whole ignite/teleport combo; all Kats just play super scared and just wait for my bot lane to overextend, teleports, get a free double kill, and now roams around with a bigger stick for the rest of the game.
I think you are supposed yo play TP too in that case. Flash is great on zed, but since Kat doesnt take it you are fine without it, plus she doesnt have skillshot stuns you're looking to dodge with flash. That allows you to follow her as soon as you see her TP, and still you can wait for their botlane to overextend and play just like her. How to counter a big stick? Just have a bigger stick ^^
Not that anyone cares, but I had an interesting game relating to this. I was playing in ranked, I pinged that my the enemy laner was missing, and my bot lane died. They flamed (both adc and sup), said I should ping and I told them to check chat. Afterwards they apologized and played safer. Granted this was like silver, but this one game was surprisingly not as terrible.

I think one reason low elo players might do poorly against assassins like kat are they conflate how strong they can be later (from previous experiences of fed assassins) with their early lane, and they don't realize they should be dominating lane in the first 2-3 levels. Another issue is when they continue to play like that after several levels and then get all ined and die
@Horou the thing about malz is you shouldn't be playing the game (figuratively) without your r. Kat can win this matchup by roaming but in lane I'd say it's a malz favored matchup. He has the wave clear advantage all game so even if you roam you will be punished pretty hard. But let's be honest it probably will come down to jg diff and sup diff because s11.

The problem is not that players are unintelligent. Kat's kit is quit complex with cooldown resets and flashy abilities, it's actually very hard to figure out what her kit is from only facing her in lane: what her cooldowns are? did she just flashed or shunpo? where can she dash at? how can she throw that many daggers? how many things happen in thoses last too seconds? WTF IS GOING ON??? To know exactly what her kit is, there is no walk around opening a browser tab and check every ability on the wiki, but most of us feels dirty even thinking of reading about that slut champ. So we're just doomed to not learn and get rekt every time we face her...
Love how all of the comments are about her roaming even tho that was addressed at 5:00. Any mid can roam maybe not as effectively but learning how to counter roams should be something you need to learn against all champs not just katarina.
You are going to lose some games to your teammates playing badly not listening to your pings that is just the way it goes. on the other hand you could be the one roaming and the enemy not listening to pings. in this video he states you should freeze the wave and when she shows herself on the map far away from lane you shove and get plates. By doing this you get more exp than her and prob as much gold or more. In personal experience this works almost always unless when she roams she double kills gets minions and plates from the other lane but that is unlikely and she would probably still be sharing that gold and exp with teamates and still likely not get much more gold than you.
Also I win so many games because the enemy team fights my team in a 4 vs 5 and even tho they win a fight I get like 2 - 3 towers and none of them had the macro to see that stopping me was a bigger issue than winning a single teamfight. I see that as a very similar thing to lettting your laner roam and you not punishing it then complaining because your team died to enemy roam when you could have been pushing turrets getting plates and gold. Destroying turrets and the enemy base is the main goal of the game after all. You can win at a gold deficit just because you had better macro.
How to counter assassins as Ahri Step 1: NEVER **EVER** use your E UNLESS the enemy assassin is going for an all-in and you can guarantee that you hit it Step 2: Shove them in and roam bot to kill the ADC before they get the chance to do the same

Pantheon. I rest my case. Anything else might get blown up or just out dashed or just not have any damage but with panth you have two ways of denying her ult, a way to consistently kill her even if she tries to "outplay" you with dash resets with point and click cc + execute and best of all, a way to counter her win con of go bot and get a double kill, just go there first. The best man for the job.
as a kat main, panth is really easy tbh the only thing he has is his stun, if kat plays properly his shield is useless, she just need to bait it with her abilities (good kats dont E R, but try to combo and bait out abilities to THEN R)

As a Fizz OTP i have learnt how to play against katarina few months ago. Before, it was perma ban for me or lose game but since have Iearnt it, I hope to play against kata. :D :D just love watching katarina crying under turret with 40% hp and 2 levels behind
Literally anyone with a brain and fingers can counter Katarina. Katarina only gets ahead if the enemy makes mistakes. The entire champ relies on the enemy's mistake.

Runes might change the outcome a little bit, but no runes can really make such a big change in cooldown reduction in the early game. It might maybe make an 11 second ability become 10 seconds.*
This is why Skillcapped is so much better than MOBAlytics. Their guide would have just been "CC her and buy Zhonya's I guess lul" like every other counter guide they make. You guys actually go into matchup knowledge and how to punish mistakes and I really appreciate that.
the way i counter her is with diana. the moment i see her in champ select i take an off-meta rune tree with pta presence of mind etc. but second tree i go green with shield power so i poke her down with q lvl 1 and if she tries to go in with q-e then my w blocks most of her damage while im procing pta with my passive attack speed steroids
Its the same thing more or less, harass him once his e is down and get the hang of side stepping his q ult. It has a delay so u can dodge and even predict it. Once the yone is losing trade their will use it to try to comeback or escape.

yo im very dont knowing it if it is worth if i get a wave or two while she is roaming yes cool but katarina gets gold from kills. yea i have a little xp lead but she has cool items that oneshot me and my small xp lead is whatever then. even if its a level. as long as i dont buy tank items how is it worth it if she gets the neccessary gold to oneshot me real quick and since there is basically not a single mr item in the game i dont know.... basically if both of us get the same amount of gold she wins cause she is assassin and snowballs harder.
Save ur form of peel(like ashe R or Xayah R for her R). Don't walk over her daggers. If she gets resets u get out(u prolly can't and will have to fight if she gets resets tho). If u have no self-peel pray ur support knows how to play.

it felt bullshit when i play viktor against kata. even if i dodged kata q into minion wave but then she can just e into me and throw a w which 100% gonna hit and e to me again for electrocute and walk away. she can hit through my q shield, be stunned and win the trade so much it exceed all my bully pre 3 which are like 3q and 2e
kata lose the lv3 trade so much cuz she trying to dodge lux q for rlly good trade. meanwhile a stupid bronze would just stand still in her w and ironically make a even trade while lux still playing perfectly.
Today i was playing against kata as ryze i was 7/1 stopping all of her roamd she was 2/5 and at 20 minutes she got loose and went to 17/11 at the end of the game 😢 i got so mad, so maybe this eill help
bro I swear I've been fucking crying against kats since I got to plat, It used to be so fucking easy laning now I feed in lane to a katarina, how the fuck is that even possible. dagger range is insane, I even engage and poke after she has used abilities and still feed.
Kat is one of the biggest examples of a champ skill floor being directly tied to the other team's skill. My brother (740k Kat one trick) swears that Kat is a champ that needs competent teammates to play around, but he's easily the most micro over macro player I've ever seen (iron macro but outplays hard enough to get called a smurf 2-3 times a week) so I don't trust team based claims from him.
Kat is a reactive champ in the early game. She needs jungle pressure to be able to make alot of the plays that you see high elo Kats make. Every Katarina main will tell you the same thing that kat cannot function without either a competent support or jungler because if those two do not know how to gank or skirmish kat will have a hard time snowballing in most games. Having macro on kat is alot different from other assassins and her skill floor is high because she plays so different from other assassins because she's reactive as opposed to proactive. She's much like an adc. She can output a shit ton of dmg in team fights but that requires her to have good micro and competent teammates to enable her in said teamfights
This doesn't help me at all to be honest. My problem with her isn't to beat her in lane. I can abuse her early weakness, get a kill or two, then she respawns and walks right down bot and get a double kill while jungler covers mid so I can't even take plates; then she is randomly ahead and can solo me even though I flame horizon her. It's not my team's fault, it's mine, but I don't know what to do by that point.
Yeah, this video too focused on Laning phase. That's not where she shines as he said. It's that first teamfight (and every after) where she ridiculously snowballs and team complains you fed her, even if you were 4-0 in lane

Im a kat and malz player lmao. Malz wins that matchup pretty hard both pre 3 and post 6 she stands no chance unless shes fed off of roams of course.

I take xayah into katarina, because of range advantige, root on e and boost on w with hail of blades, its deadly combo into kata.

If you went 5v5,just predict who she'll go on first (support or adc likely) and keep all your abilities for the moment she jumps them with e

yo im very dont knowing it if it is worth if i get a wave or two while she is roaming yes cool but katarina gets gold from kills. yea i have a little xp lead but she has cool items that oneshot me and my small xp lead is whatever then. even if its a level. as long as i dont buy tank items how is it worth it if she gets the neccessary gold to oneshot me real quick and since there is basically not a single mr item in the game i dont know.... basically if both of us get the same amount of gold she wins cause she is assassin and snowballs harder.

Save ur form of peel(like ashe R or Xayah R for her R). Don't walk over her daggers. If she gets resets u get out(u prolly can't and will have to fight if she gets resets tho). If u have no self-peel pray ur support knows how to play.

it felt bullshit when i play viktor against kata. even if i dodged kata q into minion wave but then she can just e into me and throw a w which 100% gonna hit and e to me again for electrocute and walk away. she can hit through my q shield, be stunned and win the trade so much it exceed all my bully pre 3 which are like 3q and 2e
kata lose the lv3 trade so much cuz she trying to dodge lux q for rlly good trade. meanwhile a stupid bronze would just stand still in her w and ironically make a even trade while lux still playing perfectly.
Today i was playing against kata as ryze i was 7/1 stopping all of her roamd she was 2/5 and at 20 minutes she got loose and went to 17/11 at the end of the game 😢 i got so mad, so maybe this eill help

Kat is one of the biggest examples of a champ skill floor being directly tied to the other team's skill.
My brother (740k Kat one trick) swears that Kat is a champ that needs competent teammates to play around, but he's easily the most micro over macro player I've ever seen (iron macro but outplays hard enough to get called a smurf 2-3 times a week) so I don't trust team based claims from him.
Kat is a reactive champ in the early game. She needs jungle pressure to be able to make alot of the plays that you see high elo Kats make. Every Katarina main will tell you the same thing that kat cannot function without either a competent support or jungler because if those two do not know how to gank or skirmish kat will have a hard time snowballing in most games. Having macro on kat is alot different from other assassins and her skill floor is high because she plays so different from other assassins because she's reactive as opposed to proactive. She's much like an adc. She can output a shit ton of dmg in team fights but that requires her to have good micro and competent teammates to enable her in said teamfights

This doesn't help me at all to be honest. My problem with her isn't to beat her in lane. I can abuse her early weakness, get a kill or two, then she respawns and walks right down bot and get a double kill while jungler covers mid so I can't even take plates; then she is randomly ahead and can solo me even though I flame horizon her.
It's not my team's fault, it's mine, but I don't know what to do by that point.

Yeah, this video too focused on Laning phase. That's not where she shines as he said. It's that first teamfight (and every after) where she ridiculously snowballs and team complains you fed her, even if you were 4-0 in lane
