    They keep them in little ceramic bowls outside in Japan. There is a whole 'art' to how they keep and breed them, in freezing winter temps, and it was helpful to me to watch some of those before I got mine. Their water can actually freeze over like goldfish. The plain varieties are getting around pet stores in the US but the fancy ones are a pill to get as yet. There are black, glitter, iridescent, gold, long finned, short-bodied, koi calico, etc, etc.

      It's also illegal to sell them to be kept outside in. Defra who takes care of nature in the uk do not want them to get into our waterways.

      @@csharpe5787 I think keeping them indoors is the right choice to avoid releasing alien breeds into nature.
      In Japan, many people raise medaka in water lilies pots outdoor, but I propose a number of ways to enjoy plants and medaka in the middle of the dining table.

    I have a bunch of youkihi medaka in a bin full of Java moss and they lay there eggs in it like crazy.
    Recently hatched over a dozen and have a bunch of eggs still in the smaller bin hatching, seeing new fry everyday is so enjoyful and relaxing.
    Taking my time picking the eggs out the moss is kind of time consuming but I kind of like the meditative and focus mind state it brings.

    Daisy's Blue Ricefish are also a good alternative with the same musical fish system. I like to leave the ricefish in the aquarium for about 2 weeks before moving the fish. Pilo moss is one of the best plants for ricefish spawning.

    Our Wifi was quite weak too. A somehow pricey, but really well working solution was to add powerline adapters and just have one with Wifi at the other end of the building. "devolo Magic 2 WiFi 6" is the one we got, and made sure that the router had "Mesh" capability to extend the WiFi, not make a new one.

      @CrazyAquariumGuy 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @LRBaquatics Yeah, of course I keep the tank like it is caridinas. I will take the neos out. They are fire red. But they are so many in that 12 gallon. Like 100. And I take this as a chance to move over the best looking red ones. And just spread out the lower quality as algae eaters in other tanks. Thanks for answering so fast. 😊

    • @LRBaquatics
      @LRBaquatics  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Yes you can use beneficial bacteria aka mulm the brown stuff from your tank to cycle a tank fast. You wouldnt need much for a 30 gal for rice fish but can use as much as you want. Its not fish waste its what eats the fish waste.

    Being your not using lids what about evaporation ?
    how much water do they lose in a week ? & how low
    do you let them get B-4 putting water back in them ?

    • @LRBaquatics
      @LRBaquatics  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It really depends on the weather and ability to do maintenance. I have let it get lower the. 50% before. Also depends on what’s in the tank. But it doesn’t evaporate fast enough to where I have to worry but does help me reoxygenate with top offs when I don’t do wc’s for months.
