    IMPORTANT: In this video, I go over the 2 main rules of shifting a mid-drive e-bike. It is important to know that the 2nd rule will not apply to all mid-drive bikes. The 2nd rule only applies to bikes **without a shifting sensor**. My Prime was an early model that didn’t come with a shifting sensor. However, the current Prime model now comes with one pre-installed. However, the 1st rule will still apply for all mid-drive bikes, no matter what.
    If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment! Thanks for watching!

      Even bikes with the sensor still have the same problem. Often, the power comes back on before the derailer finishes the shift.

    All the constant shifting required to keep a mid drive motor and your drive train happy is a bit much imo. The only things mid drives are best for is off road mountain biking, doing technical trails and with a torque sensor. Otherwise just get a powerful hub motor bike like I did. All the gearing stuff goes out the window. Ride all day in the highest gear is you want to. Start from a standing start in the highest gear if you want to. There's no motor power going through your drivetrain so it will last much longer. I've got a 750w befang mid drive bike and much prefer my 1,500w hub motor bike. It gets me up hills way faster than my mid drive does. Mid drives have their place but for most people the hub motor is the way to go in my experience. Just get on and go without the need for all the shifting or worrying about what gear you're in.

    I just ordered my first ebike which is a mid drive. I found your video to be very helpful, so thank you for making this video. However, while doing what you said in this video is for sure going to prolong the life of my bike's motor and battery, i'm worried that having to shift gears like that all the time is going to take the fun out of riding the bycicle, which is supposed to be a fun and enjoyable experience. I'm already thinking about the possibility of selling it and getting a hub motor ebike so that i dont have to do this all the time, and i'm probably going to have a lot more fun riding that type of ebike. What do you think?

    This is interesting. I've recently got a mid drive ebike for commuting. A little difficult to conduct so many down and up shifts in city traffic though. By the time gear up to speed id need to gear down to stop at a light. No throttle on my bike, and even on assist 1 it feels 'too easy'. Maybe I just need to chill and pedal less?

    Back to front from a motorbike ! Mine has gear and brake cut off ! Light up on peddle change gears with enershia then power on ! MID DRIVE ALL THE WAY ! Up hills kills Hub dies no torque good on flat ! And wait till you have to change a tyre on a hub ! ALL YOU NEED IS A CHAIN LINK TO CARRY WITH YOU! Thank you !

    Great video on starting and stopping. Just a suggestion... It would have been good to hear what it sounds like when your motor is running optimally, cruising gears etc. Kinda like "At this speed in this gear when the engine sounds like this you can go all day..." Amazing video though, there's not enough info on these and people blame the manufacture for their lack of understanding.

    Le vélo n’est pas équipé d’un capteur de changement de vitesse ? Qui est censé couper le moteur pour préserver la chaîne de transmission justement ?

  • @MrManolismo

    most of these worries were addressed already with technologies: like PAS sensors, a throttle(to do away with the step-like switching of power). Just enjoy the ride and the surroundings, right?. Peace...

  • @jeffpender5423
    @jeffpender5423 ปีที่แล้ว

    I understand what you are saying about easing off pedaling as you shift to ease strain in the chain, but... Nireeka says the new Primes since January 2021 have a shift sensor, which cuts the motor OFF when shifting. Didn't yours have that given that your bike is new?
    Nireeka basically said: don't start from dead stop in a mid to high gear or in anything above PAS 3. They likened it to not starting your car in 3rd or 4th gear, but rather in 1st or 2nd, and don't slam the accelerator to the floor, but press on it gradually (comparing that to starting with a lower PAS and increasing as you go). This made good sense.
    Thanks for the video!
    Oops...I just read your comment about the shift sensor...echoing what I said. lol Sorry!

    That is a beast of bike

  • @EcoSpeeder
    @EcoSpeeder ปีที่แล้ว

    Mid Drive Ebikes put all that torque thru the mechanical drive system of the bike which will run the components down. The hub drive does not put torque stress on the gears and pedal mechanics of the bike. If MTB riding is your game Mid drive is it. My fat tire air suspension Ebike grips off road like velcro but will not hit air do to the heavy back tire.

      ....And the pedal / torque response is quicker with the mid drive.

    • @NicholasRaftopoulos
      @NicholasRaftopoulos ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nikky1772 The choice is more relevant to where you ride, such as the terrain. The Revenant is definitely an easier and more all round better bike to ride but the Prime is a beast in its own right as it can climb the steepest hills with ease. I agree with Chris, its easier to like the Revenant because it is is easier but if you ride steep hills in difficult terrain then the Prime will not let you down. Especially when you take the advice from this video. Chris's advise is spot on about the gear changes and when too and not to engage the motor.

      @@NicholasRaftopoulos I like the Revenant a bit better, but I live in Lisbon, which has very steep hills, and was worried that there might not be enough torque to conquer them. So, even though I won't be doing much trail riding, I felt like I needed the torque of the Prime. Just shipping this week, so I am excited to get it in ~6-8 weeks.

    • @eBikify
      @eBikify  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nope! Nireeka bikes are kind of an “exotic” tier and don’t cut off the motor. Whatever the advertised max speed is on Nireeka’s website for the bike is accurate to how fast the motor is capable of reaching. Just don’t be stupid with these bikes and no one will notice or care. I take them everywhere. 🤫

    Nireeka has terrible customer service. My Nireeka Mega had multiple problems they are not responding to my concerns. Option 1 to 5 doesn't make any difference. The ABS break broke twice both rotors, and they still did not replace it. Mr. Shojaie, the boss, promised a new display since 2022, and he never delivered it, and his comments on their website were never updated. DO NOT BUY THIS BIKE. By the way, it was delivered after 7 months of payment $6600.00 what a west of money.

    Those are both low-end examples of mid-drive and hub motor ebikes. You get what you pay for, and you bought two POS proprietary crap bikes. It's easy to do so much better.
