The garden is looking amazing 😍 so lush and green. You've quickly become my favourite gardening channel to follow. Loved seeing the clips from last year's harvest as you were explaining the varieties. The weather over the weekend was a bit wild! Hope everything in your garden did ok. I've had a bit of damage in my snow and snap peas, but thankfully everything else is looking pretty good!
Thanks for watching really appreciate it. My sugar snap peas got smashed. Going to bite the bullet and pull them out and plant my cherry tomatoes in this spot. I have a lot of footage saved from last year looking at trying to use more of them in future videos. Gives me a chance to provide a full length video on one veggie
Hi Anthony, through your videos I've realized how well things grow up in Sydney. Unlike Melbourne where we get crazy weather, this past week the winds went nuts and it felt like our roof was going to blow away. Still it's time to get stuck into the garden and grow some summer veggies and fruits.🥔🍅🥕🍓🫑🧅🥒
good work. i struggle with providing good support for eggplants and peppers. they branch freely and when they load up, they sometimes topple or break branches. this year i'll be doing mostly the skinny/long types, which should hopefully hold up better, and maybe as bonus might have fewer/smaller seeds. i've grown a large crop of big eggplants before, and preserved them by peeling and cutting into chunks, baked them for a bit but not to fully dry, and store in freezer bags for later use in soups/casseroles/whatever.
Yeah staking them is a hard job with eggplants I might try and use bamboo to make a cage like structure to support them better to hold the heavy fruit. We pickle the small ones but generally make stews out of the eggplant
Hi Anthony, gardens is coming along well. Also had a great year with Broccoli. Spring flowers also coming into bloom. Glad your carrots are doing well. I planted my third crop this week. Will be interested in following your ginger. Cheers
Yeah thanks Keith pretty excited about the ginger really keen on growing a years supply this year so have been saving a lot of big pots to grow them out.
Hi Anthony, I’m jealous of your patch! I’m on the Northern Beaches, bordering a National Park and primarily feeding swamp wallabies with my hard work. Can’t keep them out! Congrats on beautiful produce.
Ginger looks good. I start mine in the same sort of tray on a heat mat. You should try sweet potato. Same setup as the ginger. Last sping I planted some sweet potato slips in the capsicum bed. The SP grew well under the taller plants. Going to try the same this year but under bush tomatoes as well.
Yeah I have grown sweet potato in the past more for the leaves rather than the potatoes. I might give them another go this year going to see if I have a good space for them to grow in
Hi there, what do you use to stop cucumber plants being eaten??? I'm sure you've answered this already and I've probably watched the answer but I don't recall... thanks in advance.
I’m assuming you are talking about the tomatoes at the seedling stage. I personally add a little snail pellets which will control both slugs and earwigs. Birds might be getting to them as well so if you have some sort of mesh cover them with it as well
@@sydneybackyardveggies9612 Hi, no I was talking about cucumbers. I have a dog and can't use snail pellets over my life time we have had several dogs die or nearly die, so we won't risk it. I haven't had any luck with cucumbers.. this is my 3rd year.. I am in southern NSW.
Apologies I misspoke. I meant cucumbers. In your case you can use pet friendly pellets or look at putting in physical barriers like half cut bottles overnight taking them off during the day
Hi! Asking for a friend in QLD - she has had a constant problem with mealy bugs on her citrus plus rose bushes. She has tried EVERYTHING including a homemade spray to hand picking them off. Do you have any suggestions ? 🙏
Great Vege garden Anthony, I’m in Newcastle and have just started growing veg and herbs in containers. Can’t do ground level as I have spinal issues. All the best , take care. Thanks for your passion and handy hints. I’m a chicken affectionado . Going to get a couple of fruit trees, Dwarf variety.
I buy commercial grade seeds. I grow serenity F1 from active vista though I have also had really good results either Yates or Mr fothergill all year cauliflower variety. You can get them from Bunnings
hi Anthony great content i notice your spacing of 30 40 cm is that your go to or what you would recommend as i hear others say give them enough space or not to much space which confuses me but i will carry on thanks for all your info mate
40cm is my go to spacing for most veggies. But it really depends what you are growing. Brassicas 40cm. Corn 30cm. Cucumbers 20cm. Tomatoes 60cm. I find you can’t give plants too much space but you can plant them too close. What are you trying to grow?
@@sydneybackyardveggies9612hi Anthony in nz we are planting out cabbage toms peas carrots in our small backyard it really helps to have info from others for peace of mind
For cabbages I would do 40cm at least. Tomatoes ideally 60cm but if you go a bit closer it’s fine. And carrots I would space them at 2cm spacings in rows 20cm apart. Best of luck with it 👍
Thank you for the videos
Wow I’m way behind 😅…my seedlings are just coming up now. Hoping for a good harvest this year. Hard work and persistence is this gardening business.
Still got plenty of time I just like to get ahead of the game 😀 hope your garden does well
@@sydneybackyardveggies9612 thank you 😊

Thank you very informative! Did you make your wire weeder ?
I have a video on how I made my wire weeder. Have a search through my videos

If you are ok with using systemic sprays look for Searles conguard garden spray. Use this and it will clean the mealy bugs all up.
