Flamu can you make a video of montana next time ? Please. And can you show what is the best upgrades and Captain skills for montana in current meta. Please.
Just as you said. But heyy it was Minotaur levels of citadel punching bag before they lowered it. Also, i just figured out what Flamu wanted to tell us about the shape of the bow around the front turrets, which is a weakness when the ship is angled enough to use the back gun. Esp. against the improved pen angles of U. S. shells. The ship also sits quite low in the water, making it hard to hit the side at range
Fun Fact of the dark times: The current armor layout of the Iowa-class is actually buffed from when this ship was released. This ship's armor was realistic and fairly authentic to the real Iowa-class but in practice in this game with its mechanics, the armor was enough to make many of the heavy cruisers blush. If you gave even a tiny bit of skirt in the Iowa and as Flamu detailed in its armor layout that if you show a bit too much during bow on engagements, you actually show more than you perceptually think. The citadel was very high back then and the likes of Zao with their 203mm guns could literally score 10-12 citadels in a single volley provided their close enough. Even if heavy cruisers and dare I say even smaller caliber guns couldn't get juicy citadels, provided they're close to Iowa, they could farm some serious damage with full pens which made Iowa captains sit a lot further back if they had any sense to avoid crossfires of any description and unlike most ships where they angle to about 20-35 degrees to get their rear turret firing, you'd find Iowa captains literally go nose to nose against everything, even heavy cruisers. The buff was definitely needed though since you could get doinked from even more stupider angles than the Yamato, angles that make your brain twist and curl in confusion as you see your precious 72k health brick to 20 in no time, so be glad it ain't like the old times. Then again most people already know this so I probably just wasted 4 minutes of your time.
I agree. I started playing again during the lockdown. Hadn't played since last yr. The new updates have completely changed the game & it was done in a worst way. I find the Iowa inaccurate & difficult to get citadel hits more then ever before
After seeing the stats on this ship, I'm really not that bothered about getting it or the Montana. I love the NC and I would of hoped that the play style would have continued up the tree but Iowa gets a much more rudder and less accuracy(concealment is still good) But then Monty with it's 22 second rudder and much worse concealment... really not interested since we have things like Ohio and Georgia available now for the Americans, and also things like Conqueror, Thunderer, Kremlin etc... Instead of doing a separate "dreadnaught" style bb split... I think they should have just reworked the current line a bit.
All I learned from this just reaffirmed my experience with Iowa. Sit back, snipe, and do nothing because you’ve got pre-buff German BB accuracy. Or you can get closer, get focused, and do nothing because you die in 5 seconds. Real great ship, thanks WG.

The Iowa class should get more love in WoWS...They were among the last BBs built in history, and were the last BBs operating - USS Wisconsin (which should be a Premium!) was not decommissioned until 1991, and remained in the US Naval Reserve fleet until 2006!! By the 1980s they were rocking anti-missile systems, anti-ship missiles, UAV's, and land attack cruise missiles in its armament. They were even equipped to fire nuclear shells. A good argument could be made that a variant of the Iowa class ships like the Missouri or Wisconsin should be the most powerful ships available in WoWS.
Flamu, look at the armour profile in front of the second turret. See that 19mm box? Anything with enough pen hitting that bow on will get citadelled. As long as the range is enough that the shell flies over the first turret and pens the tiny (huge) box,
I like how Iowa's turret-sniping is basically my usual tactics in CA-vs-CA fights writ large, tactics i would absolutely recommend when brawling other cruisers in any CA. Mentioned was the lack of maneuverability in the Iowa because it is so long. I know this is a game and they balance as they see fit but, interestingly, the reason for long ships is speed. Ships that don't plane (like speedboats that rise out of the water and run on top of it) and sit in the water are limited in their top speed by the wavelength of the water passing around it (think the ship's wake). The longer the boat the longer the wavelength. The longer the wavelength the faster the ship can go. So...longer ship = faster ship. Shorter = more maneuverable but less fast. As with so many things it is a design choice on what you want the ship to do. Better in one thing, less good in another. Always a give-and-take. Note that shorter ships can overcome the limitation with enough power but it takes a LOT more power to push past that limitation...I think tug boats are noted for being able to do this since they have gobs of power for such (relatively) little boats.
There was this time in my Iowa where I was playing on the Estuary map and I went down the flank where C point is and went up and into B where I faced an angled battleship and eventually destroy it. Going towards A, I fired at the Russian Battleship and destroyed it to. I kept on pushing forward and ran into a bunch of cruisers. Killed Belfast while trying to run away, I went over to a smoke screen and killed 1 more cruiser. The flint decided to ram me (getting a kraken) The funny part is that both my and the other team thought that I was raging, while I was laughing my head off. We won with the Graf Zeppelin killing a dad rushing towards him So sad that I didn’t record because I was learning Iowa at the time
I started playing this during the lockdown. Hadn't played since last fall. I realize that the updates have made the Iowa weaker in terms of bow armor & I had incredible difficulty scoring any citadel hits against broadside showing Cruisers & battleships.
@@jamescooper7878 I still can't figure out what he was trying to achieve, standing still while giving that much broadside to an Iowa. Probably he thought Flamuu can only see him when he moves xD

I'm fairly certain it's wrong that you lose a turret by having it hit when already damaged. The only way to knock them out is to take all of their HP. WG doesn't disclose what those values are, but they tend to vary between 20k and 40k per turret.
Iowa’s health pool IS AMAZING it has like a total of 200k health after using all 5 heals Iowa IS NOT a challenging ship to play it’s an EASY ship to play, rudder shift is not clumsy, not a lot of people like shooting Iowa since it’s hard to get pens on her, this dude legit has no idea what he is talking about!!!!
Hey Flamu, I have both Halsey and John Doe (previously Steven Seagal (The latter being trained for BBs)). Currently Halsey's sitting on my Wooster (terrible choice, I know, but I lacked a capt for USS CLs when I got him, so I figured why not), and was gonna transfer him to Des Moines to actually make use of his perks and use John Doe for Montana and Missouri instead, thoughts?
Not-a-unicum speaking here, perhaps it’s easier for BBs to get confederate because bbs deal significant damage per shot and are opportunistic in target choice (who is giving most broadside at any moment) so may take advantage of Halsey’s skills more
I find NC, Alabama, and Massachusetts have an easier time bow tanking than this boat. Maybe it's because of the shorter nose, and the cheeks aren't quite as pronounced like on Iowa/Missouri.
Flamu can you make a video of montana next time ? Please. And can you show what is the best upgrades and Captain skills for montana in current meta. Please.
Got to say. For me personally. Iowa was the one and only ship in the US BB line(not counting t3) that I truly hated. It kinda sucks that you have to play battleships like this so passively in this game. It also sucks, that basically every premium ship is better than the Iowa now. Even the former AA glory is mostly useless these days. Iowa has been power-crept thoroughly.

The flint decided to ram me (getting a kraken)
The funny part is that both my and the other team thought that I was raging, while I was laughing my head off. We won with the Graf Zeppelin killing a dad rushing towards him
So sad that I didn’t record because I was learning Iowa at the time
I started playing this during the lockdown. Hadn't played since last fall. I realize that the updates have made the Iowa weaker in terms of bow armor & I had incredible difficulty scoring any citadel hits against broadside showing Cruisers & battleships.
Your videos got me into world of warships! Keep up the great and informative videos!! - a happy subscriber:)
2:36 that's a Yamato of culture over there!
right in the cheeks XD XD
@@jamescooper7878 hey, I never said he was any good xD just that he's cultured :D
@@TheExecutorr i know XD
@@jamescooper7878 I still can't figure out what he was trying to achieve, standing still while giving that much broadside to an Iowa. Probably he thought Flamuu can only see him when he moves xD
Ah, yes. The old USS Powercreep.
Did you know that Stalin was born in Georgia? No wonder it puts all other Us bbs to shame
This video reminds me why I've stop playing PvP Modes!
"Iowa is not good brawer"
Hmmm...for 5 years she still hold my potential damage record among all my battleships (very much all of them)
From T8, American BB and CA gets superheavy AP shells which has improved pen angles
4:02 well, someone with my aim should run reload-mod :P
Jokes aside, i do run the dispersion-mod, like everyone else i know who has Iowa/Mo.
1:25 "you beat the likes of the Americans" - Iowa, an american ship :)
0:52 -- Since you're pointing out the range of the main battery fire, it is probably worth drawing extra attention to the minimap, *AND* also mentioning the normal sizes of the maps, which start at 24x24 kilometers.
RE: Maps, 24 x 24; 30 x 30; 36 x 36; 42 x 42; 48 x 48.
It seems to me that Iowa plays relatively similar to Hood. Both using speed to engage and disengage, and strongest kiting away.
only 1 problem, Turret 2's firing arcs are shit
Old but still gold 👌
I had a game in my Alabama that I got 105k dmg done, but I tanked 2million dmg. It wasn’t anything special for me doing damage, but I held a flank down on my own by tanking 2 million which was pretty awesome.
The Russian chat is gold xD
I am so happy that i learned the letters and (a bit of) the language.
So,The Iowa is still a strong/viable ship then?
That's great!
And would you say that now is a good time to get into WoWS?
I've been on the fence for months!
Also the map Tears of the desert, it looks like a snowman’s face
Someone pointed that out and everyone exploded over that fact
The turrets on the Iowa is also as likely broken as the JB.
I'm really happy about your increased uploads. Sadly I can't subscribe more than once. So I will comment and like instead
Such a fun watching IN-game comments )) I`m russian , that`s why I understand.
One of them calling Flamu "HE Autist" and hiding behind others backs. People stupidity is increadable, they still don`t understand different ships have different roles in battle ))
And they say game is dieing because of such players as Flamu. WOW )))
What is wrong with people? )
Hey flamo.i have a question for you. What application do you record the game??
Thank you for this video. How is the Montana holding up? Could you do a current review on that ship?
@12:15 there is a truck driving on the island.. Never noticed that before.
Just unlocked Iowa, damn it’s awesome. It’s so much better than NC in so many levels….
Flamuu- The Legend
I'm fairly certain it's wrong that you lose a turret by having it hit when already damaged. The only way to knock them out is to take all of their HP. WG doesn't disclose what those values are, but they tend to vary between 20k and 40k per turret.
15:00
those russian guys are really going at you lol
Hardly worth raging, cuz i'm a Russian too and i don't understand why Russians are toxic about it. It's just skills and experience, nothing more.
@@umbrella.russian.division-316 Либо ты принимаешь поражение и ищешь в этом ошибки. Либо жалуешься на поражение. Ничего иного нет.
I just got this and it’s stock. It’s also expensive, even running premium. What should I upgrade first?
I wish the IOWA was historic in game. I'd like to see a BB turn like a destroyer.
RIP CVs then
@@josh_jc_cheng the rudder shift time can remain the same or worst to equalize it.
any suggestions on how to play with colorado
The Iowa is Great it's 50/50 for between it and the Georgia.
Could you cover Monarch please :)
Not-a-unicum speaking here, perhaps it’s easier for BBs to get confederate because bbs deal significant damage per shot and are opportunistic in target choice (who is giving most broadside at any moment) so may take advantage of Halsey’s skills more
5mn, 3 destroyers down, potatoes land !
I find NC, Alabama, and Massachusetts have an easier time bow tanking than this boat. Maybe it's because of the shorter nose, and the cheeks aren't quite as pronounced like on Iowa/Missouri.
today i learned: iowa is iffy
Sovetsky Soyuz can confidently knock out Iowas turrets, i killed both front turrets in a brawl. Caused some salt for some reason.
The Jean Bart got really friendly after you neutered him. He wanted to come and give you a kiss :P
Flamu can you make a video of montana next time ? Please.
And can you show what is the best upgrades and Captain skills for montana in current meta. Please.
now that they nerfed the AA mod 1 again, what would you recommend running in slot 3 now?
Montana and Yamato commentary please :)
Thanks, man.
DD-Iowa(capping)
Нормально он сыграл, не слился в самом начале, повезло конечно немного, но в целом норм бой
My good old iowa
Detonated in first ride and 3rd ride....
Always use Deto flag on Iowa as hell
here is a idea for torps that miss their targets ,, give us a self destruct button ...
Got to say. For me personally. Iowa was the one and only ship in the US BB line(not counting t3) that I truly hated. I liked NM and Colorado, absolutely loved Nc and Montana is good, but this ship, just couldn't get it to work, accuracy seemed so bad. For me personally, would rather take NC or Massa to tier10 game than this thing.

Oldest??? I was playing when Missouri was tier10 battleship but unfortunately I lost that acc😔😭
This is one of the examples from which new bb players learn how to play: Stay at max range and snipe. 22k on Neptun..... 20k on DM.
The problem is they arent Flamu.
Good
At about 9:00 you mention it is hard to citadel. Then at about 11:30 you state that it is easy to citadel. So does that mean its easy to citadel or not easy to citadel. Or do they cancel out to mean its an average chance of being citadeled?
Play krasny krim
It kinda sucks that you have to play battleships like this so passively in this game. It also sucks, that basically every premium ship is better than the Iowa now. Even the former AA glory is mostly useless these days. Iowa has been power-crept thoroughly.
need featuring the Missouri its been a long tine not seen the Missouri :)
yeah, iowa still awesome
it used to be my fav ship but now its not, theres just too many better ships at tier 9
Atago *wink review *wink
I like the NC 100 times more than the Iowa. Its more accurate than the Iowa with the accuracy upgrade.
To get to Montana, you HAVE to play Iowa.
Yes ironically enough i found missouri/iowa guns to be horrible for me while nc or even the other 2 tier8s are glorious
WG has shit on this ship. This is considered by naval historians as the greatest battleship in history. In game, it's now more of a joke. Then again, if it doesn't un on Vodka, and it doesn't fire imaginary Stalinium shells, it's just cannon fodder to Russian balans.
I loved the Iowa, my most favorite BB in game. I have an avg dmg of 88k with her.
Unfortunately I bought the Montana, I absolutely regret this move. I don't really like the monty, I would prefer playing in tier X only with my Iowa rather than the thick fat ass montana..
Do you think Iowa need a buff? She sacrifices her armor so she must have a better maneuverability than this.
Georgia has speed boost. Why not give Iowa speed boost?
@@supercustodiam2197 georgia = premium
WG only cares about premiums because thats how they make money
Да нормально он играл, так же играю. А хера то в лоб как стадо бежать. Игру он вытянул. Молодец 👍🏻
Iowa is so strong in wows legends
1:06 the Iowa should be the fastest in real life it’s the fastest battleship ever made but in world of warships it’s not it’s like 3rd I think but still I should be number 1 on speed
