historically, the Samurai didn't use their Katanas as a main battlefield weapon. The Dachi was their go to blade if they weren't masters of the Naginata or Yari

The real comparison lies between no dachi and katana cav, if you charge vs yari infantry no dachi is the superior unit, if you charge against any thing else katana cav is superior, also katana cav is available earlier and does not require a lategame tech to be effective. So all in all with some micro, katana cav is better than no dachi samurai.
I think Yari Ashigaru is the most powerful unit in Shogun 2. Not because of Yari Formation. But did you see how he switch between sword and spear? He can use both of them!! And you dont even see where it comes from 😂
That and the Odachi Samurai fares better when charged against units multiple times while exploiting flanks. They have horrible defenses and will lose to protacted fights
No Dachi Samurai are all about the charge impact. they don't do well in combat after the charge damage because of their low melee defense. spear wall stops charges so basically No Dachi Samurai are about as strong as ashigaru when fighting in melee without yari wall. katana samurai would do better against a spear wall but would also lose half of their units because of the -charge.
If you're using a blacksmith armourer as you're army production and get armour upgrade on an encampment as well they end up way better than regular katana even when those have the armour upgrades as well
@@mitchellbrough1615 that doesn't add to their value at all. With all those upgrades, you can just produce superior katanas instead. Yes, the nodachi will win in a 1v1 charge. So if you can always set it up like that, great. But considering that AI always gets ton of archers and you have to fight defensive siege battles, the katanas are just a better choice overall. Though I will agree that having 2-3 nodachis in an army can be helpful.
You're supposed to use them as flanking shock charge troops. Much like cavalry, but you don't have to worry as much about spear units. Best supported by anti cavalry like Yari cav, or Yari samurai. They're pretty niche, but they can be very useful if you use them right. Also, armor upgrades are the most logical choice for more survival power against archers.

Why the players of Total War: Warhammer 2 didn't use the spear type infantry using this method which is "do not move and embrace the enemies' attack" that the embraced spear infantry using melee defense(which is higher than melee attack) to finish the enemy with a stronger melee. Melee attack is to move the infantry army to the enemies' infantry army.
Can you recommend good mods that would fix this? I only use the large map one, I noticed this when I started playing again and was like what the actual fuck. Basically Oda is the most OP thing in the game unless you take guns.

every unit in S2 carry katana aside his primary weapon. Well, except for katana samurais, who use their secondary weapon as primary.
